One of my best friends is moving to Denver and she was going to drive alone. I didn't want her driving 30 and stopping in sketchy places by herself so
I'm going along for the drive then I'll fly back. Well because U-Haul sucks and can take reservations, but can't seem to hold them we are getting a
much later start than we wanted to. The weather also sucks for driving! God damn rain!!
The only problem I forsee is driving in close spaces, ike gas stations and other stops. We have a 17 foot truck with a flatbed tow for her car. I've
never drivin something that long with a trailer and she was having trouble with backing up. Anyone got any hints or suggestions for driving something
like this?
Not sure who will be interested, but ill try to post along the way. I'm sure ill be bored! Thank god for my sidekick... Thorp posting on the go!!clevohardcore - 10-14-2005 at 02:46 PM
Relax and practice in a parking lot. Thats the best advice. The more tense the more possibilities of accidents. Be safe!clevohardcore - 10-14-2005 at 02:47 PM
O and remember it's easy. Just think it and it will become easy.BDx13 - 10-14-2005 at 02:51 PM
that's not too bad. first time i drove a uhaul it was the biggest thing you're allowed to drive without a cdl. tight spaces can be tricky, but on
the highway, it's no problem. and gas stations on the road are made for trucks, so no worries. just get to know your corners and use your mirrors.
although not having a proper rearview sucks.thedog - 10-14-2005 at 03:16 PM
good luck.
have fun.XHonusWagnerX - 10-14-2005 at 06:56 PM
Still in CT. Were on rout 84 west for like 165 miles. Its about 7:00 now so I don't know when we will stop, but it would be nice to make it to
Wilkes-BarrDiscipline - 10-14-2005 at 06:59 PM
Your mirrors are your best friend. Watch them carefully. Don't take any fast turns. Also, depending on the size of the trailer, when you back up
your cars back might be going to the right but the trailer can go to the left on you. Back up slowly.defstarsteve - 10-14-2005 at 11:33 PM
Bro I feel for you
I drove the biggest one they got, pulling my car on a flat bed, in the blizzard that hit around xmas of last year....

be fucking carefuljonnynewbreed - 10-15-2005 at 08:49 AM
don't try to back up or parallell park it unless you are a patient man...or you have Mr. Dave Robertson driving.XHonusWagnerX - 10-15-2005 at 09:27 AM
Thanks guys, keep the tips coming if you've got them. I think I've decided thet we just shouldn't really back up if it can be avoided at all!
We stopped a little over the PA boarder and stayed in a hotel. Just back on the road around 9:00 am. Hopefuly we can make some good time today. The
weather is nice, its finally not raining and the sun is actually out! Just need to keep a decent pace cause I fly back from denver on wednesday
moening!
Thanks again for all the advice. Talk to you in a few hundred miles!!XHonusWagnerX - 10-15-2005 at 08:09 PM
Been on the road since 9:00am and we are just about to Indiana. Damn Pensylvania is a long fucking state, but not as long as Kansas is gonna be.
Just ate at a Waffle House in Ohio. 2 words.... Smothered & Covered!!!XHonusWagnerX - 10-16-2005 at 09:58 AM
Spent the night in a super 8 motel after doing almost 800 miles yesterday. Were in Illanois now less than 30 miles from Missouri. $480 on gas & about
875 miles to go.
Just listened to Ramallah on a little boombox because there is NO radio reception at all where we are now.
Guess that's all for now!BDx13 - 10-16-2005 at 11:31 AM
holy shit, gas prices. i can't wait to hear the total spent on that!
so where are you posting from?XHonusWagnerX - 10-16-2005 at 11:50 AM
I'm a super dork & keep checking the board, email, ebay & some other crap on my sidekick! My guess is $700 in gas, but that might be low.
The truck & car trailer from U-Haul were $2900 alone! I'm glad its not me that's moving, fuck that! Well.... Wait a minute.... I did 'lend' her 1/2
the money for the truck, bought dinner ever night & the hotel rooms. Good thing my flight home was only $120.XHonusWagnerX - 10-17-2005 at 11:58 AM
Ok so were in Colorado now. About 95 miles from Denver. We stayed in a motel called "Little England" last night & I ate at a Sonic for the first time.
It was kinda weird cause we didn't know it was a drive in only place and the truck was way to big. So we parked and walked over and the people seemed
confused. They had some tables outside, so we ate anyway. It was pretty good, tasted like a wendys burger & I got the orange cream slush.
Were gonna stop for breakfast in a bit because the realtor for the apartment won't be there until about 4:30pm and its only 10:00am now. Damn this
mountain time crap!
Ill have tomorrow to chill then I fly back wednesday morning and ill be back to work on thursday, which means much more posting!
Hope everyone had a good weekend & survived al the rain if your in the north east!GabeTexasGAMC - 10-17-2005 at 12:30 PM

Ask Andy about driving a truck w/ a trailer. He did it from PA to OH. Actually, ask him about picking up the truck from the U-Haul place.BDx13 - 10-17-2005 at 06:37 PM

I've only been there once, but In n' Out was awesome. Probably the hamburger equivilent of Spikes hotdogs in New England. Good stuff!!
Yah so I'm here in Denver. Kinda reminds me of Sarasota, FL for some reason. The weather is real nice & I'm not at work which is nice. I called in for
"a couple of days" on Monday & I'll call again tonight and say I will be in on Thursday. What they don't know won't hurt them!BDx13 - 10-18-2005 at 02:12 PM
i never got into in and out burgers when i lived in SF. i liked FAT BURGER in vegas, though!

So ends my adventure. I'm sitting at the airport waiting for my flight. I have about an hour to kill before it leaves denver at 10:30am mountain time
and lands in boston at 5:54 eastern time.
2134 miles from Norwood,MA to Denver,CO. The trip cost me probably close to $3000 because the friend I was going with had underestimated things,
didn't get work checks she thought she would get & had already borrowed money from me. Ill get most of it back so its not a big deal. Just a lot of
money to spend to help someone move 2000 miles away when you don't want them to move at all.
Oh we'll..... Back to work/regular posting tomorrow. See you soon!XHonusWagnerX - 10-19-2005 at 08:39 PM
