Rocky to return!!!!!!!!!!!!

Voodoobillyman - 10-17-2005 at 11:00 AM

Sounds like it could be good, I have always loved this franchise.

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Sylvester Stallone is signing on to reprise his role as boxer Rocky Balboa in the sixth installment of the long-running film series, which he wrote and will direct.

The film, titled "Rocky Balboa," will be co-produced and co-financed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Columbia Pictures and Revolution Studios and will be distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Stallone has been trying to make a sixth movie for years and has been reworking a script. The latest version, which sources said is similar to the tone and grit of the first two movies, persuaded the studios to negotiate a deal.

"In many ways, the screenplay really took me back to the original 'Rocky,' " Revolution Studios founder Joe Roth said in a statement. "As a past champion, Rocky Balboa is once again a regular guy who has to find himself and deal with real life. This film brings Rocky's story full circle."

In the new installment, Rocky, lonely and retired in Philadelphia, comes out of retirement, intending to fight a few low-profile local fights. He's approached to fight a match with reigning heavyweight champ Mason "The Line" Dixon, and soon his comeback ignites a media firestorm.

"'Rocky Balboa' is about everybody who feels they want to participate in the race of life, rather than be a bystander," Stallone said in a statement. "You're never too old to climb a mountain, if that's your desire."

Shooting is scheduled to begin in December in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

Stallone received Academy Award nominations for starring in and writing "Rocky," and the 1976 MGM film won an Oscar for best picture, best director (John G. Avildsen) and best editing (Richard Halsey, Scott Conrad). The movie grossed $117.3 million at the domestic boxoffice, making Stallone a film star and creating one of cinema's most famous characters.

It also launched one of the most successful film series of all time. 1979's "Rocky II" grossed $85 million, and 1982's "Rocky III," which featured Mr. T, grossed $120.2 million. "Rocky IV," with Dolph Lundgren, made $125.4 million after its 1985 release. By the decade's close, however, audiences seemed to have tired of the character. "Rocky V," released in 1990, made only $40 million.

"Rocky Balboa" is the first film to be green-lit by MGM since it was acquired by Sony Corp.

my brother has that Rocky boxed set and on one of the special features it says that the original plan for Rocky 5 was for Rocky to die in or after a fight. But the movie studio nixed that idea after they had already invested in the movie so they had to make the sucky Rocky 5 that we have today.

Discipline - 10-18-2005 at 01:08 AM

We don't need another Rocky movie. They killed the franchise with that horrendous piece of shit known as Rovky V. That movie licked more balls then every emo and homocore band put together.

JawnDiablo - 10-18-2005 at 05:55 AM

i liked when that turd tommy gun got spun and knocked out in the end into a SEPTA bus...pure philly baby...yay kensington !

Voodoobillyman - 10-18-2005 at 09:51 AM

Rocky V was a joke, the original Rocky was all about the struggles of a working class neighborhood, it had real grit and feeling to it, part V was a shadow attempt at that feeling. I did like like when Rocky nailed that Don King wannabee motherfucker though. Tommy Gun has the HIV??

JawnDiablo - 10-18-2005 at 01:15 PM

yep from what i heard he gots the HIV

I think that 3, 4 & 5 are my favorites.

I remember when they filmed in Philly and they had the huge Rocky statue & Stalone wanted to leave it as a donation to the city & the city said no, get it out of here. Hahaa....

Killthehumans - 10-18-2005 at 01:46 PM

when i was bullied in middle school rocky is what made me and my bro kept going...we saved money got punching bags, did push ups and sit ups watched rocky every day. haha it didnt make us any bigger but it makes for good memories.

Discipline - 10-18-2005 at 01:46 PM

JawnDiablo - 10-18-2005 at 04:08 PM

It is in front of the philadelphia spectrum now

xsharpx - 10-18-2005 at 04:29 PM

man I am not a big fan of Rocky V but I have to agree with jason on this one... It is the definitive portrayal of betrayal... You take someone in and try to teach him what you know but only to be stabbed in the back because of money..... Its definately the american way of doing things... step on the ones that you love and loved you just to get ahead in life so to speak...
Me for one think that they should have stopped at Rocky 4 .... I mean come on now you had Mr T, Hulk Hogan, Tommy Gunn, Dolph Lundgren... I mean who the hell is going to play the bad ass in this movie.... man are people in Hollywood SERIOUSLY RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS of movies that they have to do more sequels and remakes of cult classics....
I mean you have had remakes that NEVER should have happened in the first place coming out now like AMYTIVILLE HORROR, HOUSE OF WAX, DAWN OF THE DEAD, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and more.... I mean come on now there are better movies and screenplays out there so you dont have to continue to do this

JawnDiablo - 10-19-2005 at 05:57 AM

i liked the new dawn of the dead....

Voodoobillyman - 10-19-2005 at 09:14 AM

I actually have enjoyed alot of these remakes as well, especially some of the horror ones, and theres no sign of slowing with a remake of The Omen on the horizen as well as The hills have eyes. The new Rocky is not a remake though, it's the sixth installment in the series.

Jason the Magnificent - 10-19-2005 at 10:43 AM

Rocky V while not the best film in the franchise is still great.

"you knocked him down....now why don't you try knocking me down."

that shit is HARD AS NAILS.

JawnDiablo - 10-19-2005 at 02:08 PM

ADRIAN!

XHonusWagnerX - 10-19-2005 at 06:41 PM

I liked the new texas chainsaw massacre. Not as much as the old one, but it was good.

Voodoobillyman - 10-19-2005 at 08:08 PM

hell yeah, that was awesome, you cant hope to top the original, only do it justice, I looked at it as an installment in the series rather than a remake. They have a new one coming out with the same dude Andrew Bynariski or whatever, and it revolves around leatherfaces origins?? Not sure about this yet, but will go see it.
