Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Recomend a Thorp title....

XHonusWagnerX - 10-23-2005 at 09:02 PM

I need to pick a Thorp CD to get. Im thinking something 'non hardcore', but Im not sure. Im embarassed to admit that the only Thorp stuff I have is Slapshot 'Tear It Down', Madball 'NYHC'. BFB 'Serenity' and the new Ramallah. I have some N.S.K. MP3s though.

Heres what Im considering...

Sugar Daddy - Hell or High water
My Revenge - Less Plot, More Blood
Sugar Daddie - American Rickshaw
The Wednesdays - Invisible Youth
Mad Sin - ...Sweet and Innocent? ...Loud & Dirty!

but Ive never heard any of those bands. What do you guys think?

KyleOz - 10-23-2005 at 09:05 PM

Burning Bridges - Politics of Dead Friendships

My Revenge is a great choice to as with any of the others except maybe for madsin, I couldn't get into them personally though.

Go with what you really want the most.

if you are going off the ones you listed,
i like Sugar Daddie - American Ricksaw.

but other ones i would strongly recomend are....
clenched fist - welcome to memphis
NSK - all
Pride Kills - deep in the heart
Out to Win - beg for life

BDx13 - 10-23-2005 at 11:28 PM

i'm gonna suggest a true underdog... Natchez Shakers. it's about the furthest thing from hardcore on the label, but still among my favorite all time Thorp releases. some members are now in The Wednesdays.

anyone else have this cd?

soulless - 10-24-2005 at 02:32 AM

the new breed - off the beaten path
ducky boys - three chords & the truth

i keep meaning to do a Thorp order, and get this CD, i kinda kile the MP3 that is up, it's just that i'm lazy & poor, so i haven't done it yet.....(

GET THESE!
The New Breed - Off The Beaten Path
Ducky Boys - Three Chords & The Truth

Gooch - 10-24-2005 at 11:53 AM

STRIKING DISTANCE- my favorite Thorp release. One of the best Lp of the last 5 years.

Discipline - 10-24-2005 at 12:08 PM

Striking Distance
Pride Kills
Natchez Shakers
NSK -all of them
New Breed
Ducky Boys
Clenched Fist
Mad Sin

all good choices

For Sugar Daddie I would go with American Rickshaw. I think it's better then the first album.

I got it. It was good, but not quite as good as I expected. Definitely worth buying though.

Voodoobillyman - 10-24-2005 at 12:55 PM

MAD SIN
I really like Diehard Youth too

SAAAAARS - 10-24-2005 at 12:55 PM

if we are getting into older releases....
DEAD SERIOUS

Killthehumans - 10-24-2005 at 01:31 PM

My Revenge - Less Plot, More Blood

If you like slapshot(which you do, cause your from MA) you will like thse guys. Reminds me of minor threat mixed with slapshot mixed with sucidal tendencies.

Killthehumans - 10-24-2005 at 01:31 PM

add in alittle cromags too

SAAAAARS - 10-24-2005 at 02:11 PM

oddly enough, i like all the bands you say they sound like, but not my revenge.

crazyfists28 - 10-24-2005 at 03:39 PM

definitely out to win....

This is actually one of the first Thorp CDs I ever bought. I picked it up at a shop in Austin before I ever posted here. I like it, but for some reason I always forget that I own it until I'm looking through my CDs to pick ot something to listen to. For those who haven't heard it, imagine if the Pogues were from somewhere in the Appalachians instead of being Irish and you'd be not too far off.

My recommendations would be...
Sheer Terror - Beaten By The Fists Of God (DVD)
Awkward Thought - Ruin A Good Time
NSK - A Family Affair
Ducky Boys
New Breed
The Boils
Mad Sin
and from the distro titles...
Dirty Water

Ten Foot Pole - 10-24-2005 at 10:00 PM

i recommend:

Angel City Outcasts- Let It Ride
Ducky Boys- Three Chords and the Truth
the Boils! (take ur pick at which cd)

Six66Mike - 10-24-2005 at 11:41 PM

I haven't heard any new Thorp since atleast January so I'm gonna list the essentials from 2004 and before (though I guarantee Out To Win is essential and I need it!!):

North Side Kings - Organizing Our Neighbourhood
Blood For Blood - Serenity
Punishment - Broken But Not Dead
Edgewise - Complete Discography
Knuckledust - Time Won't Heal This
Stampin Ground - Carved From Empty Words
