DMS in high fashion?????

Voodoobillyman - 12-14-2005 at 09:22 AM

Alright, I admit I love that show on Bravo, Project Runway, my wife had me watch an episode last season and I have been glued ever since. Well, the new season has started and it's already really good, but I noticed something odd. One of the contestants, Santino, is wearing this jacket that has a DMS patch on it?? What does it all mean?? Has DMS gone high fashion, the fag on MTV was wearing a shirt so I guess it isnt impossible to imagine:)

XHonusWagnerX - 12-14-2005 at 09:31 AM

I wouldnt doubt it. Its like a cool thing to be part of now.

Voodoobillyman - 12-14-2005 at 09:35 AM

Yeah but this guy was wearing it like he found it in a thrift shop or something, not like it was "colors" for him? strange, yet funny.

BDx13 - 12-14-2005 at 09:37 AM

man, that's crazy. and i was surprised when the guy from new found glory waswearing one on cribs!

i dunno what people are thinking. why would you wear the letters of a group you're not a part of? have you considered the repercussions? of course, i used to (and still do) feel the same way about the alleyway dragon tattoo.

chad was in shai hulud and hazen street, which features madball-members, so its not THAT crazy

I guess it all depends on the group, some enforce the use of their symbology stringently, like the Hells Angels, they copyrighted the deaths head and name and anyone seen wearing one without permission (membership) is beaten and then persued legally. The alleyway dragon has become just another old symbol to those too young to know what it really stood for and SOIA can't hope to keep people from having it tattooed (popular) or otherwise claimed.

Voodoobillyman - 12-14-2005 at 09:49 AM

It would shock me if this guy on the show even knew who the hell DMS was. I think he adopted the letters on his patch to stand for something personally, I could be wrong though.

BDx13 - 12-14-2005 at 10:00 AM

my initials are DSM. imagine the awkward situations THAT has landed me in! ;)

BDx13 - 12-14-2005 at 10:46 AM

YEAH!!

XnMeX - 12-14-2005 at 11:03 AM

Am I an idiot for thinking it is the SOIA logo and thats all there is to it? Or is there more to it that I don't know. I have never been EXTREMLY deep into hardcore like some, so I have no clue. I think I learnd more about the deeper hardcore scene on this board then in my years going to shows.

JawnDiablo - 12-14-2005 at 11:23 AM

i dunno i got mine when i was 15..thats 16 years ago
i got it cause i loved the band
i heard shortly afterwards it had ties to some"new york crew" or some shit
not that any of that shit was a threat to me livin in Upper Darby, PA because i doubt the tentacles of the Alley Way Crew reach as far as this sewer of a town

GabeTexasGAMC - 12-14-2005 at 11:23 AM

I think the Alleyway Dragon has finally morphed into a symbol for NYHC.

JawnDiablo - 12-14-2005 at 11:24 AM

Mob Deep use the same logo

There is a clothing company called DMS and it stands for Druken Monkey Syndicate. It is a "high fashion" company and has been around for a few years now. If I had to guess that would be what this guy was wearing.

MM.

BDx13 - 12-15-2005 at 08:53 PM

Discipline - 12-15-2005 at 08:57 PM

Gee, thanks!:D

tireironsaint - 12-15-2005 at 09:16 PM

Sorry man, had to be done. This reminds me of the time several years back when I worked at 7-11 and a coworker picked up a jar of pickled pig knuckles and said "Hey, wouldn't it be hilarious to give somebody the nickname Pig Knuckle?". I turned to him and said "Yes, it certainly would be hilarious, Pig Knuckle." Poor guy was called Pig Knuckle or P.K. for the rest of the time he worked there and even after he left, we called him that if we saw him.....

BDx13 - 12-16-2005 at 01:00 AM

Discipline, you don't have to be a drunken monkey if you don't want to, just lemme know.

GabeTexasGAMC - 12-16-2005 at 02:24 AM

Odd to hear this mentioned. This is semi close to where I live.

The alleyway dragon, quick story... It is basicaly a representation of Sick Of It All as the firewheel was to Shelter. The alleyway crew 'tag' came from them hanging out in a fenced in area on some school yard (as seen on their self titled 7").

In NY in the late eighties instead of shouting out peoples names you shouted out where they were from (ie: lower east side crew). The SOIA fellas were known as the alleway crew as thats where they hung out. The original SOIA dragon was created to spell out Sick Of It All in the dragon. The dragon logo has morphed over the years and it doesnt read as such anymore.

There you have it gentleman.
