Nick Names in Hardcore....

XHonusWagnerX - 12-20-2005 at 09:30 AM

The bad brains thread made me think of this.

Is it true that H.R. actually stands for HUNTING ROD which was his childhood nickname and not actually Human Rights?

Theres so many other nicknames in hardcore It would be awesome to see a breakdown of where they all came from and what they mean (if anything).

Jimmy Gestapo
Lemmy
Choke
Bloodclot

BDx13 - 12-20-2005 at 10:23 AM

Ezec is from the bible right? And Dany Diablo is just his real name plus 'devil' which is probably a play on being a 'white devil'.

brooklyn - 12-20-2005 at 12:00 PM

if I am not misken Ezec is the biblical meaning for "strength from the people" and Lord as the meanig King.

Its actually BUDDHA. that nick name rules because he looks EXAXTLY like Buddha!

Discipline - 12-20-2005 at 01:30 PM

Jello Biafra came up with his name by choosing someing nice and fun and pairing it with something horrific and evil, which was the Biafran people in Africa being slaughtered. Hence the name Jello Biafra.

Bloodclot got the nickname because he sang in a band called Bloodclot. It came from when he was a roadie for Bad Brains and they would call people bloodclot. That's what I read somewhere.

Jimmy Gestapo said he picked the name because he wanted something horrible and mean.

I always heard that HR was Human Rights too, but I read the other day that it was HUNTING ROD and it was a childhood nickname and that he later changed it/told people it was Human Rights.

Voodoobillyman - 12-21-2005 at 01:23 PM

I always thought it was goofy when they would use the name of their band in place of their last name. But my personal favorite is Slymenstra Hymen, shit is classic.

Definitly a good one! Plus she's so hot in a nasty borderline disgusting way.

I actually like some of the "use the band name as a last name" but it gets old and doesn't always work out.

For anyone who doesn't like the guys that do that do The Ramones get a free pass or is it lame that they do it too?

I don't compare this to what bothers me, these guys are totally original in every way possible. That said, I never really was or am a big Ramones fan, I like some, and will listen when it's on, but don't go out of my way to listen to them. I did get to saee them open up for White Zombie and that was definitely pretty cool.

BDx13 - 12-21-2005 at 01:57 PM

what the ramones did is fine. everyone else who cops that style is lame.

From the Misfits. Doyle the guitarist, and Graves is the singer from the newer version of the Misfits.

Jason the Magnificent - 12-21-2005 at 03:53 PM

yes that I know, but he has this extensive list of people from the early 80's and alludes to the list being kind of old school and theres a person who surfaced in the late 90's, graves... and a name doyle didnt start using till even after that.

Discipline - 12-21-2005 at 04:12 PM

Oh, gotcha.

About my other list. I stuck Graves in there before I labled the list as being old school guys and forgot he was in there. As for Doyle, hes an old guy even though his full name isnt that old.

Lemmy was the original guitar tech for Jimi Hendrix and he basically was paid so cheaply in those days that he was ALWAYS broke... So he was always going around syaing "hey man lemmy a smoke.... lemmy a beer... etc etc" So Jimi told him one day that was what he was going to call him from then on... and it just stuck.... A bit of information I found out years and years ago....
