Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

New album from SHELTER....

BDx13 - 12-20-2005 at 09:42 AM

allright, who's buying this?

------------
Official press release (Good Life Recordings):

Good Life Recordings announces today, December 19th, 2005, a world-wide deal for the new Shelter album, tentatively titled "Eternal."

"Eternal" includes 4-5 real hit songs and a reworked version of the classic "In Defense of Reality," for a total of 11 songs on the album. Shelter have released a handful of classic albums on labels like Revelation Records, Equal Vision, Victory and Century Media. Their absolute hit-album was "Mantra," released through Roadrunner Records in the 90's.

"Eternal" is back in the grand style of the 'Mantra" days, and will not disappoint.

If it had a new version of Socities Based on Bodies, I MIGHT buy it, but beyond that.... nope.

brooklyn - 12-20-2005 at 11:09 AM

first reax is No Thanks,... but will give it a listen and decide then.

clevohardcore - 12-20-2005 at 01:09 PM

I like them. Always have. However since 95 they have put out garbage. I am amzed at how much I have jammed out MANTRA since its release. Its like a guilty pleasure like SUPERTOUCH or something. The best it PERFECTION OF DESIRE. I saw them for that tour with Vic from 108 and the dude from antimatter zine and they were great. they played 2 YOT songs and 2 Inside Out songs. great show. I ate Baklava with the dudes from Zero Tolerance when they were Krishna for a minute.

Discipline - 12-20-2005 at 01:25 PM

Got to admit, I do like some of the tunes on Mantra.

WINTHESKIN - 12-20-2005 at 01:42 PM

Freewill is a great song, always been a fan.I remember seeing S.O.I.A,Shelter,and Snapcase at city gardens when the real Y.O.T reunion took place before the were trying to cash in on the whole reunion thing. It was fucking great except S.O.I.A set was cut short

forsaken - 12-20-2005 at 04:20 PM

I'll give it a listen, but probably won't buy it unless cappos learnt to sing .. the music is great though becuase lets face it ... i love pop punk.

gavin - 12-20-2005 at 04:37 PM

if youz give me $500 ill listen to one song

tireironsaint - 12-20-2005 at 06:13 PM

Aside from MrBadVibes response, I'm really surprised by this thread. I really didn't expect more than one or two people to do anything but laugh about this. Geeze, Boycott Krishna Hard Core people.

I'll admit that I like some of the songs from Mantra, embarassing as it is. There were some good tunes on there. Of course, I got a free copy of the album after that (20 Summers Pass) and it was beyond horrible. True shite. But Mantra wasn't too bad. Of course, I was a big fan of YOT way back when, so that has some influence over my opinion.

I'm with Bad Vibes on this one,I can do without.

I think Rays other band,Better Than 1000 was much better.

thedog - 12-21-2005 at 12:31 AM

Oh, you mean (Not Much) Better Than A Thousand (Other Youth Of Today Rip Off Bands)? God that band sucked so much ass they had toilet paper hangin' outta their mouths.

Todd - 12-21-2005 at 06:48 AM

The sound of one hand clapping...

Voodoobillyman - 12-21-2005 at 10:20 AM

This album will be crap, like everyhting ray crapo has done.

MyOwnWay - 12-22-2005 at 10:47 PM

Attaining The Supreme is one of my top 5 fav Hardcore albums.

clevohardcore - 12-22-2005 at 10:55 PM

hahahaahaha I listened to Attaining becasue of this thread a couple days ago and IT SUCKS!!, but I like it if that makes any sense. Really really weak album but fro some reason I will tolerate it. Maybe its the subliminal messages in it. Who knows???

Gooch - 12-23-2005 at 03:29 PM

I LOVE Shelter, probably more than anyone else on this board, but I seriously doubt I will buy this record. Mantra was their last great record. Beyond Planet Earth has some great songs, but some really bad ones too. 20 Summers sucked and I haven't heard the one after that.

They say its going to sound like Mantra, but it won't. I remember 20 Summer was supposed to be like Attaining the Supreme, but it was basically pop-punk. Plus, Porcell isn't even involved anymore, I don't want to hear Cappo and a bunch of scabs.

Who would have thought that Shelter would still exist in 2006?

ray crappo

That pretty much sums it up

Endgame - 12-26-2005 at 05:14 AM

Perfection Of Desire had some really good hardcore songs on it i thought, than again it was tom capone and the guys from 76% uncertain, than they became a "real" band. Quest for Certainty when it came out i thought was ok.

Hey Geoff,
If this fool ever sets foot in Philly to play a show again, i say we go to the show and smuggle in meatballs and pelt him with beef. ...just an idea. maybe throw a sausage at Porcell, or whatever he is calling himself these days. God knows he likes sausage.

Murk - 5-16-2006 at 10:41 PM

so, I just had a listen to this and...

the album seems overproduced and cheesy, but there are some cool ideas on it. very "poppy" and marketable, but i get the feeling that a lot of these songs would translate better live.

In Defense Of Reality sounds like it had it's balls removed.

haven't listened to Mantra in a long time (or any Shelter) so i'll give it a listen, drink some beer and give an update later.

BDx13 - 5-17-2006 at 12:20 AM

wow, Murk, you really dug this one up! that's for the update.

XHonusWagnerX - 5-17-2006 at 07:52 AM

Now Im curious....

Murk - 5-17-2006 at 01:47 PM

i listened to Mantra last night and well...

i'm kinda scared to listen to this new one again.

this new album is not comparable to Mantra in any way. there is very little hardcore element left in the music. it is comparable to the last 2 Shelter albums though.

IMO, Mantra is a good album that sounds like what the singer of YOT would be doing 10 years later.

JawnDiablo - 5-17-2006 at 02:02 PM

i hear they are touring with murphys law....

gavin - 5-17-2006 at 02:08 PM

why are we talking about his again?

JawnDiablo - 5-17-2006 at 03:21 PM

BDx13 - 5-17-2006 at 03:29 PM

XHonusWagnerX - 5-17-2006 at 04:21 PM

Anyone got the new Shelter and wanna hook me up with it VIA the web?

JawnDiablo - 5-17-2006 at 04:31 PM

why so many of you know yiddish?
gee oh me

BDx13 - 5-17-2006 at 04:54 PM

you live in new york long enough, you pick up the colloquialisms.

^^^^^ Good call. I agree with that.

gavin - 5-17-2006 at 10:53 PM

Discipline - 5-17-2006 at 11:04 PM

Somebody has to keep gaycore alive. Seems Cappo is up to the task.
