Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

The next trend

Voodoobillyman - 12-22-2005 at 10:30 AM

Alright, so the average age around here is about 25 to 30 I think. So the question to the old fart club is this.......what will be the next musical trend in your opinion? Let me recap what I have seen. when I was in grade school, it was 80's synth pop, then in junior high, it was hair metal into thrash and death metal. High school saw grunge and then alternative as well as the leap into hardcore punk. Also rap for those with no taste. Then post high school I saw the kids mixing their rap and metal and the worst of hybrids was born. Rap metal clung on for awhile while goth crept in (with the bondage pants thing???) and now it's beatle style shag cuts with lots of black dye and girls pants with your standard hot topic t-shirt of the latest "hardcore" band to be shat out of some record company that claims to be "old school" and "real" so now we have kids calling this crap "hardcore" and everyone catering to it as an official trend. Whats the next big thing? For the record I consider "emo" to be part of this "hardcore" label these little white belt toting shits cling to like the toilet paper bits to a stinkin asshole that wasnt wiped clean enough. There is always the resurgence of the previous generation, so maybe it will be a new wave renaissance or possibly a "post harcore" independant rock kind of thing. We have all seen bands get pretty popular with the MTV crowd that we didnt think would ever break into that kind of mainstream thing. The bands I see now, although crap, surprised me when they made it huge. Here is a good example, Rise against. I saw these guys open for Strife a couple of years ago and never could have imagined they would be on the radio in the next two years with a "hit single" So..........whats the next big thing?

I say what is happening now is every style is coming back all at once. Everyone is choosing sides and being retro. We got bands like Municipal waste who are a throwback to thrash ala DRI. WE got old school hardcore by comback kid(I never heard them b4 so if they don't sound like that I'm sorry. Thats just the impression I got from the cd sticker) ala Y.O.T. We got a million bands sounding like Black Sabbath with bands like Doomriders. We got the beatnick thing going with all bands from sweden ala international noise conspiracy. We got older death metal like napalm death ala many bands from sweden. We got the skaterock like............ Aaa what the fuck am I saying. I don't give a shit anymore. I like what I like and what I don't like I make fun of.
PEACE OUT! "and Word to your motha"

So what your saying is, you dont think we have anything original to look foward to because everyone is biting on previous bands writing styles to seem like they come from that era? Good point, and I see alot of that crap as well, thats why the "hardcore scene" sucks so much. There are a handfull of bands doing something interesting, who probably dont want to be called "hardcore" and then theres the mountains of garbage being spewed forth like John Bobbit trying to squeeze fake jizz from his broke dick.

Voodoobillyman - 12-22-2005 at 11:53 AM

oh and there has been a small resurgence of hair metal as well. Apparently it's cool to wear poison t-shirts at a (name a band of faggotry) show.

Voodoobillyman - 12-22-2005 at 12:06 PM

I believe it's also possible that rockabilly and classic honky tonk, or outlaw country as some call it, could be the next big trend. I see alot of people who used to be all about hardcore before it became misrepresented and gayed up getting into these styles of music. myself included.

I hope the next trend is far outside of hardcore. Then all the homos will leave.

word.

clevohardcore - 12-22-2005 at 12:51 PM

I thought that making hardcore or the culture of hardcore big and giving recognition to what makes me enjoy this. I thought that it would boost and make it something more and it did. It made it watered down garbage. Its sad.

Voodoobillyman - 12-22-2005 at 12:59 PM

I've actually found in the past year or two that it's small towns that are more true to the roots of what hardcore used to be. Once you get to bigger places with more people and accesibility, thats where it becomes posturing and stupidity and craptastic "music", gayer than a bag of dicks as they say on the Thorp boards.

EXACTLY! I find myself being bitter towards people who are "hardcore" now and very into Hot Topic shit. Then I have to step back and just say to myself "Why would I give 2 shits aobut what this dude is wearing? He isn't hurting me or anyone else but dressing like an idiot. Also, why the fuck am I at the mall? I must be brain dead."

I just want this "scene" or "hardcore" to about music again. Fuck everything else. Just let the music and bands play and that is it. Fuck posturing and what people are wearing.

GabeTexasGAMC - 12-22-2005 at 02:01 PM

haha ive never cared about the trends, i still dont.

I'm happy to report that wearing leather jackets, drinking too much and hopping around a crowded bar to hardcore bands that sound like hardcore bands is alive and well in Halifax.
