Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

...about this Thorp Board weightloss idea

BDx13 - 12-29-2005 at 04:07 PM

First off, let me know right now if you are at all interested in doing this.

If enough of you are, here's how I'm thinking we might organize things. This will require some volunteers, so hold on!

- I'd like some of our more physically fit members to put together some resources for the rest of us slobs. Links to downloadable files, reputable sites with nutrition and exercise info, etc. We can always host stuff if needed. Maybe ChrisReed83, Andy King, and someone else?

- As for the workout music... if you want to use Thorp tracks OTHER than what we have up on the MP3 page, I'll have to speak with Andy. If we do go that route, maybe we'll make a private zip file for the participants to download, or maybe someone will be generous enough to make cds. newbreedbrian or XHonusWagnerX, would either of you start a thread polling people to see what tracks they'd like on a workout mix? Let's do a list of Thorp tracks and non-Thorp tracks.

A few questions....
- Should this be a contest to see who can loose the greatest percentage of body weight? Or should we just set a total amount as a goal for everyone involved? Like, "The Thorp Board is 250 pounds lighter"!

- What sort of time frame do we set? Six months? And how often do we do weigh ins? Weekly? Monthly?

- I think this might require a dedicated forum (in addition to 'General' and 'Hate'). If anyone participating would prefer that to be a private forum, restricted to participants and maybe interested regulars, please send me a U2U. Otherwise, it will be open to the public.

Any other thoughts or questions? I'm really into this idea. Enough of us talk about loosing weight, to too few ever do anything about it. Who would have thought a hardcore board would turn into a health and fitness support group?!

One last, but very important thing...
PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU TAKE ON ANY SIGNIFICANT DIETARY CHANGES OR START NEW A EXERCISE PROGRAM.

CR83 - 12-29-2005 at 04:13 PM

I have some info that I can put together that I can e-mail over to you BD, if you'd like. Since people are some what all over the place with weight, I'd vote for the "Thorp Board is XX pounds lighter". I think a monthly update and shoot for a goal amount in 3 months, 6, 9 and 1 year. We could all be the Biggest Losers

Just let me know if I can help.

Discipline - 12-29-2005 at 04:24 PM

I'm in. I need to lose at least 60 pounds.

XHonusWagnerX - 12-29-2005 at 04:25 PM

Im up for it! lets do this!

THORP - 12-29-2005 at 05:15 PM

i have no interest in losing weight - only eating more steaks and gaining more muscle. Fat is just a necessary by-product of that process that i am willing to accept!

BDx13 - 12-29-2005 at 05:24 PM

ok, then you can supply muscle-gaining theories to the new forum.
perhaps you'll enlighten the masses with your D.A.D. program!

KyleOz - 12-29-2005 at 06:23 PM

I am 22, I have no need to consult a doctor!

*dives in headfirst*

tireironsaint - 12-29-2005 at 06:54 PM

I'm in, but I vote for either total board loss or some kind of individual goal thing as opposed to body weight percentage.

JawnDiablo - 12-29-2005 at 06:57 PM

as of my first week back to work i am hitting the gym they have.
using the treadmill and weights
WaWa has been the death of me for years. too many things that taste too good and are way bad for me.
rolling rock and yuengling have also been contributors. i will cut back on the beer too.

JawnDiablo - 12-29-2005 at 06:59 PM

for the record i am 6 foot 1 and 210 lbs
thin all over except for a killer beer buddah
i just feel like shit all the time and have no energy.
getting back down to 183 lbs would be nice. thats around what i weighed before my son was born almost 9 years ago.

yeah, i guess competing against one another isn't really the point, is it? i think setting individual goals, then keeping a running tally of who meets their goal and the total weight lost will be cool.

Lucabrasi - 12-29-2005 at 09:03 PM

im totally into this!LETS DO IT!!!

bystanderfanzine.com - 12-29-2005 at 10:06 PM

Lucabrasi - 12-30-2005 at 12:03 AM

if there is a cd for this could i do the artwork for it?

newbreedbrian - 12-30-2005 at 12:18 AM

i like the idea of a total thorp weight lost. contests surrounding weight loss are a really bad idea. everybodys body is different and reacts differently to diet and exercise. start small, cut down on take out first. you'll save alot of money and lose weight in the process. try not to eat big meals late at night, especially high carb stuff. carbs are great in the first half of the day but if you don't use 'em your body stores them as fat overnight. for those interested in weight training check out this book, it's amazing and you can do alot of stuff at home with a simple set of weights:

yes'em

as for music, fuck man whatever personally pumps you up is right. i have a mix of agnostic front/negative approach/black flag etc which is great for when i'm not really feelin like doing it. best of luck everyone and just like quitting smoking you really have to want to do it

clevohardcore - 12-30-2005 at 12:47 AM

Well I WANT to lose the weight. What is a healthy time frame to lose weight. I know it differs with everybody but UNIVERSALY we can realistically lose about what 1 lb a week?

1. Thats 4 pounds a month

2. and 12 pounds in 3 months

3. and 24 pounds in 6 months.

I think all of us would benefit from this. Its not a crazy impossible # and it is definintely achieveable with a normal everyday lifestyle. With 24 pounds gone how does everyone think they would look? Now I got to lose more but this is a huge step in this process. The reason most people give up the excercise is they do not see superfast results. If we are dedicated for 6 months imagine the benefit of 1 full year of 48 lbs......You can still have that drink. You can still have that steak. But if we got goals set you can learn moderate and have discipline. I am all for this. I got to lose this weight. I want to order a THORP shirt as a large.

As for the Dedicated Forum. What about the name?

"The Year It Goes Off" or "The Challenge"

bystanderfanzine.com - 12-30-2005 at 01:42 AM

haha you're doing alright as far as jeans size ... i'm 220 and i wear a 38.

bystanderfanzine.com - 12-30-2005 at 02:24 AM

trust me 38's are not far away

BDx13 - 12-30-2005 at 02:25 AM

i was an even 250, wearin' 40s for years. then something happened, and i jumped up to 270. fitting into most 44s is tough. sucks going into the gap, looking the chart of available sizes, and realizing that your in the shaded area at the far end that represents items that have to be ordered on line. it's like screaming, "you're too fat to shop in this store!"

I am 240 even as of 4 days ago and I wear a size 40 pant. I just admnitted it right now. I refused to say 40. I have been a 38 to everyone for like 3 years now. Shop fro a pair of pants and take 2 days? Well I did trying to find a size 38 because I refused to admit it. Hows that for denial? Believe it or not I found a pair. Its the only 2 pair of jeans I've been wearing for the past year and these fuckers are getting tight.

JawnDiablo - 12-30-2005 at 08:31 AM

i swear they make size 36 smaller tha they did before.....i never hardly ever see size 38 with a 34 leg....them bastards!

Voodoobillyman - 12-30-2005 at 09:10 AM

I am a tight 36 and a loose 38, so I guess I'm a perfect 37?? I dont know, but I have to work out three times a week mandatory and I have maintained a certain weight level for the most part, I do want to get back down to 180 ish from 210. Damn Beer..........I have switched to light and it still kicks my ass. I definitley think this is a good idea, I could give you guys input on military standards and theories on weight managment if you want.

BDx13 - 12-30-2005 at 10:08 AM

^ absolutely. input on different theories and techniques will be helpful.

XHonusWagnerX - 12-30-2005 at 10:17 AM

just for the record Im REALLY psyched about this. Its like a weight watchers support group for lazy hardcore guys! I have lost weight in the past and I know that its my general mood/depression that has caused me to gain it back, but the last few times I have tried its been a big failure which is more depressing and it turns into a vicious circle. I think that with a group of people doing it in a fun/contest kind of way with one group goal and everyone supporting each other that this can really work for everyone.... I hope so anyway!

Jason the Magnificent - 12-30-2005 at 10:40 AM

I'm 6' 250 I could definitely stand to lose 40, count me in.

I eat pretty good now, I don't eat alot of starchy stuff, I never drink pop with sugar, I drink MAYBE once a week. I'm just extremely lazy. I work 8 hours a day in front of the computer and that isn't a great motivational tool to be active when I get home.

edit...as a side note I lost about 30 on Atkins 2 years back, but gained some back...I cant really deal with the high protein thing well, I have one kidney and was worried about health problems. Then I dropped the hammer in Vegas in Oct and gained at least another 10+ back on my Vegas diet (2 buffets a day, haha I don't fuck around). Now that the holidays are over, it'll be easier. I can't turn around at work without knocking over a cookie tin or tray of fudge.

bystanderfanzine.com - 12-30-2005 at 12:25 PM

try being a 36/29, short and fat... horrible life

jonnynewbreed - 12-30-2005 at 04:48 PM

My older brother has lost a total of 56 pounds in the last 6 months. He found this dude online named John Stone who lost a bunch of weight and got ripped by measuring caloric intake and spreadsheeting every bit of food he puts into his mouth. My brother worked out how many calories he needed to take in to loose 1 pound a week while sitting on his couch, then when he lost a good portion he starting working out and the pounds have fallen off of him. He eats 6 meals a day each meal consisting of 300 calories and certain amounts of fat, protien and carbs per day.

I should say that my bro is a scientist and has the type of brain that allows him to maintain a strict diet but he looks and feels great. He has said that booze affects him differently now (he gets hammered like a 15 year old).

Voodoobillyman - 12-30-2005 at 09:08 PM

^ that sounds awesome, I would like to know more about that one. I plan to go on a metabolism enhancer and just run 3 to 4 times a week, this with plenty of water and sticking to a 2000 calorie diet should be enough to get me down a few LBs

Voodoobillyman - 12-30-2005 at 09:09 PM

Of course I'm typing this as I munch pretzels and BEER, Damn Beer.

jonnynewbreed - 12-30-2005 at 09:51 PM

I'm eating ginger cookies.
