This might be the toughest part of all of this. Our Society has programmed us to be terrible at this. Here are a few Tricks:

1. Drink at least 12 ounces of water before eating
2. Take 6 psillium fiber pills (like metamucil) 30 minutes before eating. The fiber slows digestion and keeps you fuller longer.
3. Take a drink of water after every bite

They sound stupid but they do work.

portions kill me. if it's on my plate, i have to eat it. why?
1) it doesn't matter if my stomach is full, my mouth wants more!
2) i'm cheap, i can't waste food.

Sodium is the big kicker I believe. You are better off with water because of all the advantages it provides you.

Gatorade is VERY high in sugars. Research has shown that it is actually worse for your teeth then soda. It is good for after a long run but only about 12 ounces. Make sure to chug it as well.

Better yet, after any workout or run make a Whey Protein and Fruit Smoothie in a blender. More isn't better here. Make it no more then 16 ounces and then chug some water.
