Parental update and question

Well, for those that had advice when I posted about my little girls colic, thank you. Kaleigh Jeanne is now 6 months old and really developing personality like no ones business, it is the most amazing thing to watch a child grow and develop. She has now officialy begun to sleep in her crib and go all night without waking.................finally, I thought she was going to sleep with us for so long I would have had to move to the couch. Now the question, for taxpaying parents, is there still a child tax credit? When you filed your taxes the first time after the birth of your child, was there some kind of "bonus" so to speak, I have heard there is, and I have heard there isnt? which is it? any advice on how to go about this to get as much of my money back from Uncle Sam as possible?

AWSOME QUESTION. I would like to know this as well. I heard both ways as well. I heard you get a credit or bonus for having a child. The other was no you just get to deduct 1,000 dollars off your income or something? Anyone know what happens in this case?

Is it 1500 cash in a check that is written to you or is it 1500 off your income? So say you make $51,500. Do they let you file for $50,000 as your income?

I assume theres more to it for you based on having your own business.

defstarsteve - 1-11-2006 at 05:10 PM

not really
that all depends on your business structure and how you file...
I have a 10 year old and getting an extra grand back for the last 10 years has been nice....
sometimes it pays to be poor...

So you get 1,000 back in a check along with what you normally would get?

defstarsteve - 1-11-2006 at 08:31 PM

totally depends on your situation
