Well I'll be damned, it's about time the commonwealths caught up with the rest of the country and got off their puritan high horses.

Because State law made it so, Tattooing is stil illegal in Parts of VA which also happens to be a commonwealth. Land of Pat Robertson and his Nazi club. It was illegal in NYC due to health concerns which were overcome due to the dedication of the people within that business who fought for it's legalization. The Bowery is rich with tattoo history and should always be recognized as the forefront ,along with a handful of other places including Norfolk , VA for the beginnings of what is now a cultural revolution and quickly expanding business.

I know some good artists in the North Conway area of New hampshire, but no one in Mass.

joemaconmovies - 1-25-2006 at 12:19 PM

Damn Mass. I think Doug Sullivan from The Ducky Boys went to one of those RI places to get his tattoo and it looks really good. I'll probably hit one of those.

actually, if i remember correctly, tattooing in NYC was just legalized in the late 90s. there were still quite a few shops operating openly, but most of them were owned by well known tattooist. then after it was legalized, a TON of crap shops sprung up.

isn't that what usually happens though? once it's legal, they all crop up and people get screwed with shitty ink.

Try this place, Tony Ciavarro did my back piece and is one of the best artists around. He has made a pretty big name for himself lately. I think he is booked months in advance but all the other artists in the shop are great as well.

I know it's still illegal in Oklahoma, but I thought that was the last place fucked up like that. I guess maybe it's the last place where there's a state law against it or something. Everybody in Oklahoma used to come into Texas to get work done. One of the many reasons Oklahoma is such shit.

I remember reading about Mass changing the law a few years back in an article featuring a guy who opened one of the first legal shops in the state. His stuff looked awesome from what I remember. I think that shop was called Fat Ram's or somethin' like that.
