Describe Your Music Collection

CR83 - 2-2-2006 at 11:17 AM

Why the hell do I have some many songs on my PC? I may never listen to them all. I listen to maybe 20 dofferent albums most of the time.

Tell me I'm not the only weirdo like this. I don't have a ton of obscure shit either.

I can't bring myself to delete any of it either.

XHonusWagnerX - 2-2-2006 at 11:47 AM

I have about 1400 CDs and I dont really listen to any of them anymore.

I have probably 500 LPs and I dont really listen to any of them anymore.

I have about 10,000 MP3s and I dont really listen to them that often.

I have Sirius satelite radio and thats just about all I have been listening to since I got it.

I do have A LOT of odd MP3s and CDs that I never listen to and some that I dont even like, but I cant get myself to sell the CDs or delte the MP3s JUST INCASE I might ever want to hear them!

joemaconmovies - 2-2-2006 at 11:59 AM

i have 350+ cds, like 25+ vinyl, and a ton of mp3s.

I have Dido right by Deicide. I'm not even sure what a "Dido" is. Does it take batteries or is it gas powered?

GabeTexasGAMC - 2-2-2006 at 12:59 PM

ok then... time for another post!

crazyfists28 - 2-2-2006 at 01:52 PM

my collection has changed and evolved as i've grown up. i have about 600cd's and maybe 25 vinyl. the cd's are constantly in random rotation. some rap, metal, hardcore, punk, country, rockabilly, its all there....i think most of us have been into all different stuff at various points in our life

Discipline - 2-2-2006 at 02:47 PM

I have about 950+ cd's
100+vinyl
200 tapes

I totally anal, so all my shit is in alphabetical order, and each band has their shit in chronological order. I have mostly punk, hardcore, oi, metal, death metal kinda stuff. But also a variety of other things ranging from Dido, to Enya, to classical, to Johnny Cash, to Skinny Puppy. I have most of my cds on the computer now but still listen to a good number of them, but I do have old stuff I never listen to anymore that I can't seem to get rid of just in case I decide I wanna listen to it.

I don't have much of anything in the way of mp3's because I don't really believe in downloading music. The only stuff I usually download is syuff I can't buy anywhere.

KyleOz - 2-2-2006 at 03:38 PM

Maybe eclectic, because like many of of you I have tastes that vary wide.

400+ cds
100+ vinyl
Don't know how many tapes I have left

newbreedbrian - 2-2-2006 at 03:47 PM

pretty varied. hard to even hazard a guess....um 800 LPS, 500 CDs, 1000 7"s, couple boxes of tapes as an estimate i guess. out of control, but im pretty in check the last couple years

DAK - 2-2-2006 at 03:49 PM

I've got about 1500 cd's. A few 7 inch records. A couple LP's, including my favorite Dead Horse (Horsecore). Nothing on my computer.

Dave - 2-2-2006 at 04:08 PM

400-500+cd's Left
300-400 Lp's
200-300 7"

65ish - Gig's of MP3's

CR83 - 2-2-2006 at 05:05 PM

I'm at 5,000 mp3's. I sold a bunch of my CD's since I really just listen to my PC library and MP3 player. I only download what I can't buy.

CD wise I have about 200 maybe.

Discipline - 2-2-2006 at 05:48 PM

I'm a cd junkie.

crazyfists28 - 2-2-2006 at 06:02 PM

same here, its one of the few things i spend money on freely and happily. its like an obsession. but music is also one of the most important things in my life...

i have that gravediggaz album. i can burn it if you really need it.

Spoiler - 2-2-2006 at 07:30 PM

I have cassette tapes that I've had since I was a teen (I'm 34 now)...I only keep the CD's that I really like, stuff I don't listen to gets traded in every few months or so.I've sold off most of my vinyl,I'm down to about 300 or so,but there's a few records that I'll take to my grave.I have everything from Merle Haggard to Negative Approach, from Slayer to Motley Crue.

I dig music

JawnDiablo - 2-2-2006 at 07:37 PM

i have somewhere between 600-700 cds
i used to have maybe 100 or so 12 inch vinyl and 50-70 7 inches but after getting on Ebay, i went and sold a shit load of them. i regret it.
i also used to have between 200-250 cassettes but somwhow i am down to a quantity that fits comfortably in an empty case of beer under the family porta bar. maybe i have 900 mp3s between my work pc, the one at home, and on various data cds i burned up over the years. plus there was hundreds on disc when my hard drive disentegrated from kazaa

JawnDiablo - 2-2-2006 at 07:48 PM

yeah i am gay with my stuff too
my cds are arranged alphabeticaly, as well as in chronological order.
i have therlonious monk next to madball next to skatelites next to the goats and so on
the gravediggaz were cool as hell
so were the alkoholiks

crazyfists28 - 2-2-2006 at 07:57 PM

i truly regret selling cds growing up that i thought were useless because lately i've been going back and buying those same albums and others by the same artists, tastes change and grow and stuff that i liked ten years ago will probably still be things that i will listen to down the road, maybe for a song or two,but to me thats worth it

Discipline - 2-2-2006 at 08:39 PM

I need cash right now and I considered selling off some stuff, bit realized I was unable to part with anything.

i have that feeling somedays too......:(

DAK - 2-3-2006 at 10:32 AM

I have all of my cd's in 3 ring binders. I bought 4" binders and cd sheet and put them on a shelf. I've got 4 binders, so if there is a fire i can gra them all and run. I put all the cases in boxes in the closet.

That's awesome. I wonder about BD's collection and Thopr himself. Man, that would be interesting to me.

BDx13 - 2-3-2006 at 01:33 PM

i dunno, probably 1000 cds, 300 pieces of vinyl, only a few tapes. we listen to digital audio files the most, probably have about 8000 of them. pretty broad selection of genres, but the aggressive stuff has the most depth. problem is i don't listen to music as much as i used to, so i have an embarrasing number of albums in itunes that i've never even played. here's what i have on my computer at the moment: http://www.sequencer.com/library.html

CR83 - 2-3-2006 at 04:14 PM

Jesus, BD that is awesome how iTunes has that set up for you. One thing that stuck out is only 2 B4B albums in the catalog. Serenity is an onvious one since it is a Thorp release. Is is because you have the other B4B's on CD?

Also, does Mrs. BD listen to the "agressive" stuff too?

Cool library Man. Thanks for the insight.

Discipline - 2-3-2006 at 05:34 PM

BD has more Death Threat than Agnostic Front and Dead Kennedys put together. Some thing seems wrong there.

How did you set that up? It would be cool to see a few people post theirs up.

i've digitized about half of my cds; all the aggressive stuff, but only some of the 'other' stuff (world, classical, jazz, dance, etc). the rest of the digital stuff has either been bought, burned or found.

- b4b was one of those bands that, when i was younger, i just wasn't exposed to and never really listened to. so it's only been the past few years i've been listeneing to them.

- i love AF, but i have most of their albums on vinyl, and that live cd was ALWAYS my absolute favorite.

- DK, i was never a big fan of. dude's voice drives me kinda crazy after a song or two.

- the entire Death Threat collection was delivered in one fell swoop. everyone raves about them, so i guess you could say it was research. i stilll haven't had a chance to really get to know em yet, though.

my wife listens to a lot of silly japanese girl bands, like the nenes and shonen knife, then like morrissey, the rezillos, depeche mods, dance hall crashers. the closest she gets to aggressive would be like bosstones, dkm, foo fighters, clash, social d, fugazi.

i created that page using this little program: http://www.kavasoft.com/iTunesCatalog/
but i think there is an option somewhere in the menus for like "export to html" or something. if any of you can do that and want me to post 'em just send em over. Or you could 'export to text', then just post it as a message.

XHonusWagnerX - 2-3-2006 at 09:52 PM

Most of my CDs

1/2 a crate of vinyl (I think these are all KISS LPs)

itunescatalog is only for the mac, but itunes itself should have something under "file->export" or "advanced" or something that allows you to parse band & album data.

Discipline - 2-4-2006 at 01:20 AM

You can buy it for $14.99

Yah those 3 box sets (Motorhead, Slayer, Sabbath) were all worth the money!

CR83 - 2-6-2006 at 05:21 PM

I still need to get the Slayer Box
