Are you watching the Olympics?

BDx13 - 2-18-2006 at 11:13 PM

What's your favorite event?

XHonusWagnerX - 2-18-2006 at 11:14 PM

Im not watching any of it, but I do like the Curling!

clevohardcore - 2-18-2006 at 11:17 PM

none. Never been into it. I heard they don't make much money doing what they do.

tireironsaint - 2-19-2006 at 12:17 AM

Isn't this crap over with yet?

clevohardcore - 2-19-2006 at 01:01 AM

Honus' dancing oriental girl is hot though.

Voodoobillyman - 2-19-2006 at 10:51 AM

nope

Discipline - 2-19-2006 at 11:40 AM

I'd watch the Olympics but I can't afford the required lobotomy that would lead one to actually enjoy it.

upyerbum - 2-19-2006 at 12:03 PM

Ski jumping's insane. Remember Eddie the Eagle Edwards?

crazyfists28 - 2-19-2006 at 01:10 PM

u.s.a. womens curling team is pretty hot, they suck but 3 out of 4 are nice....

BDx13 - 2-19-2006 at 04:51 PM

the super g is the shit.

RomanticViolence - 2-20-2006 at 09:12 AM

The only way i would watch this is if they had: The prosthetic limb throw and amputee kick boxing. Siamese twins can challenge each other in fencing and wrestling.

Curling kicks ass

DaveMoral - 2-21-2006 at 08:19 PM

I don't understand curling... I'm more into the summer Olympics anyways, and I'm not really into that. Maybe when wushu kung fu is a sport in 2008 I'll be more interested.

I heard quite the opposite figuring in all the endorsements they get.

KyleOz - 2-22-2006 at 01:21 AM

I have found myself watching them when they were on.

BDx13 - 2-22-2006 at 11:25 AM

sure, the big name athletes make good money from their endorsements, but they are far and away the minority. most of the athletes come up with some sponsors to help with expenses, but they still pay the majority themselves. this one figureskating couple was profiled last week, and they said the expenses for trainers, coaches, gym memberships, ice time etc, totaled over $150,000/yr and they they both worked two jobs to pay for it. i think for lot of these people, being a competitive athlete is like being in a band - they work tirelessly to support their passion despite the fact they'll never make much money doing it.

Voodoobillyman - 2-22-2006 at 11:55 AM

I just can't help how booooring I find this. I even tried to watch some of it and fell right to sleep. Good for taking naps.

Anyone hear what Bryant Gumble said about the Winter Olympics? I dont know the exact quote, but he was bad mouthing them because the events were never held in ancient grease and who really cares about a louge or skiing or figure skating. From what Ive heard, his statement came off as being racist and was making the point that the winter olympics are full of 'rich white people sports' and that because there are very few black people in them that it cant actually be all the 'best athelites'

crazyfists28 - 2-22-2006 at 08:09 PM

is bryant gumble really black?

crazyfists28 - 2-22-2006 at 08:10 PM

besides that, the skip for the mens curling team owns a pizza shop back home so he's just doing this for the sport as are most of the other athletes

Last time I checked they don't get a lot of snow in "black" countries. That's why they are black. And lets not forget the Jamaican bobsled team.

(I always thought it would be better to be black if you were from the north, I always wear black when its cold and sunny. That climatic evolution thing never made sense to me.)

the hurricane

BDx13 - 2-23-2006 at 10:42 PM

this guy just went off a jump and did a quintuple-twisting triple flip. fuck.

Six66Mike - 2-23-2006 at 11:57 PM

Australia's coverage is complete crap, nothing like the near 24 hour coverage I'm used to from Canada & US networks. I think last night we got some highlights from Canada vs Russia in the quarter final hockey but it was on past midnight & I haven't watched the tape yet. Next week after the closing ceremony we apparently get the gold medal mens hockey game.

All we got here is slalom, figure skating, luge, bobsled & other pathetically boring events. No curling or hockey, shitty.

If only he would have made the landing.

I like the more insane stuff of the olympics, not the boring shit like figure skating, cross country skiing, etc...

And about the Bryant Gumble bs.....
There was an ethiopian on the cross country skiing event.... and no, I'm not kidding ;) He came in 87th

upyerbum - 2-24-2006 at 12:15 PM

I'd say the Winter Olympics are more hemispherist than racist.
