Underated Bands?

thedog - 3-27-2006 at 12:23 PM

What bands new, old, together or broken up
would you say are/were underated?

an older band i think was underated would be
Chain of Strength

another band i think is underated would be
No Redeaming Social Value
these guys just play hardcore for the fun of it. great band.

Voodoobillyman - 3-27-2006 at 12:36 PM

My chemical romance
Atreyu
Hawthorne heights
Bleeding through

all of these bands are underated by hardcore elitists who think they bring nothing to the table, they are in fact the next step in the evolution of hardcore and I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

SAAAAARS - 3-27-2006 at 01:00 PM

nrsv is definitely not appreciated.
and i have to think about this because i know there should be a lot of bands popping into my head right now, but they just aren't..

Yo, that drummer got skillz! You can hate on me all you like, I keeps it real! LOL.

stateofdisgrace - 3-27-2006 at 06:35 PM

I gotta listen to other things aside from hardcore or my brain may fall out.

DaveMoral - 3-27-2006 at 06:44 PM

Fighting Chance from Baltimore... that band had a good mix of hardcore and oi... it was just awesome. Did a great cover of Punk's Dead You're Next too.

Honus, Madball is so NOT over-rated it's sickening. Seriously turn your back on Boston for a little while. Boston's definitely got some good shit right now too, Death Before Dishonor for one.

No Innocent Victim I think hasn't gotten enough recognition outside the Christian hardcore scene... that band is so tight I can't do enough justice.

Earthmover has been underrated I think.

Discipline - 3-27-2006 at 06:45 PM

Fighting Chance was amazing.

I dont hate Madball and it has nothing to do with Boston or anything else. I dont like bands based on geography and I dont even really like geographic genres of hardcore.

I just dont think Madball is as good as people hype them up to be. Hell.... I KNOW Slapshot isnt as good as I hype them up to be. Its just a personal opinion.

Yes, yes they were.

I was turned onto them just a few months ago... after they broke up I got "Terror Hate Fear" awesome record. I just ordered everything they did on Insurgence over the weekend. I'm looking forward to that package.

newbreedbrian - 3-27-2006 at 11:35 PM

YES! The Beltones are one of the most underrated bands ever. I fuckin' love that band and so does every single person I've played 'em for. I'm still waitin' for the new record Bill's been claiming was in the works ever since he worked out the new line up. Haven't heard anything in a while though...

As for the Madball debate Honus started up there...That band is the single most overrated band in HC, ever, period.

thedog - 3-28-2006 at 01:19 AM

the Beltones are a great band that you dont hear about enough.

i am surprised how many people dont like madball... to each his own.

tireironsaint - 3-28-2006 at 02:00 AM

I'm honestly surprised anybody actually likes Madball. I still have the Ball Of Destruction 7 inch, and I like it, but it's almost a novelty act and is so far removed from what they turned into that I hesitate to even call it the same band. I've never gotten the whole Thug Core thing, it's the worst aspects of gangsta rap and metallic HC combined, why does that appeal to anyone? The first time I saw Madball play live I laughed out loud. I went there hoping that they would win me back over with their live set and left feeling even more disgusted. I saw them again a year or two later and had the same experience. I guess I just don't get it.

I really like the Ball of Destrucion 7" and I like some other songs here and there, but my Madball feelings basicly follow those of the Saint. I dont feel as strong as that and I dont think they are laughable, but I just dont get how they are practicly the biggest thing in hardcore.

I never got into ThugCore on a serious level. I do like One Life Crew and a few other bands like that, but its just as much for comedic value as it is for actual music.

Discipline - 3-28-2006 at 12:38 PM

I never really thought of Madball as thugcore, mostly because they never took it as far as bands like Skarhead, OLC, Fury of Five, etc.

DaveMoral - 3-28-2006 at 03:00 PM

Yeah, Madball isn't so much thugcore in my mind... Skarhead is DEFINITELY thugcore and Ezec is not at all shy about saying he started that shit.

I think Madball has one of the best live shows in hardcore.

DaveMoral - 3-28-2006 at 11:43 PM

Just thought of another underrated band.... Rogue Nation. I was just listening to The Sedition tonight... great stuff. Omar X is a nice guy too.
