Internet Phone Service

CR83 - 4-7-2006 at 05:04 PM

I just switched my office over to Vonage. All I can say is this stuff is amazing! It will cut my monthly phone bill in half. The clarity is much better, Caller ID is better and I can manage everything (including listening to voice mails) on a secure web site.

I would recommend this service to anyone. All you need is a broadband connection to the internet.

I know a couple of people that have it and they all say its awesome and offers a huge savings on their monthly bills. I dont know what my deal is, but I am reluctant to switch to it for some reason.

I have it...I have the 500 min plan cuz I don't use it much. $14 a month. I use it for my Tivo and to answer my mom's phone calls, she's the only one who calls me on the number.

I haven't had a house phone in years. I stick to my cell for all my calls. If there was some reason for me to have a house phone, I'd probably do this.

When me and my GF move to a new apartment, we are gonna go with the 500 minute Vonage plan. Right now, we are getting raped in phone charges.

SAAAAARS - 4-7-2006 at 09:22 PM

i have vonage too! rules

BDx13 - 4-7-2006 at 10:43 PM

yeah, i'm with juice, the 500 minute plan for $14. i'd never pay for the caller id, call waiting, etc, but at that price, it's nice to have.

I think it's only a few cents a minute over 500. I know it is still a great deal even if you go over. And if you talk ALOT, just get the unlimited for $25

Also, to you that have vonage already..... Is it true you have to dial the area code before each phone number?

no...only if you're dialing to a different area code than yours.

Pardon my ignorance to this, but how does internet phone service work? Is yer phone hooked up through yer computer?

DeathByForce - 4-9-2006 at 05:24 PM

That's awesome. I'm thinking about getting it.

BDx13 - 4-10-2006 at 07:21 AM

obviously, if you internet connection goes down, you have no phone.

Gooch - 4-10-2006 at 09:54 AM

I would love to get this because I hate paying like $70 for our phone bill, but I hate that you have to worry about your internet connection. My comcast is pretty good, but it does go down from time to time. Plus, if the power goes out, you're fucked as well.

I hate phones. Between my home phone and our 2 cell phones I pay like $150 a month and I rarely use either. I hate cell phones, but its one of those things you feel like you have to have. I use the thing like 2 minutes a day when I call my wife and tell her I'm on my way home from work.
I think I might get one of those prepaid plans when my contract is up this summer.

You are correct BD. The way I look at it is, my phone line goes down from time to time. I know my Vonage phone will too.

gooch - my wife has a virgin mobile phone. the minimum requirement is like $15 or $20 every 90 days. $.25/minute for the first 10 minutes a day, then $.10 after that. best deal out there. plus it's on the sprint network, so it's at least somewhat decent.

thanks for the info. my contract is up in August, so i'll be switching then because I never use the damn thing. Besides Leslie, Andy is probably the only other person who has the number.
