Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

if you could...

newbreedbrian - 4-8-2006 at 12:00 PM

erase one band from recorded history who would it be? and why?

my #1 is the Barenaked Ladies. Not sure if they're very well known in the states. They're like a bad talentless joke that was never the slightest bit funny to begin with. The story of their rise is just as lame as the band.... fitting i suppose. Some retarded group of idiots complains about the name of the band, thereby getting them banned from playing around the city. It also gives them publicity, which eventually leads to them getting big. The same morons that deem this band clever probably also think Lethal Weapon is a great film.

#1.5 The Eagles were an extremely close second for paving the road to current "country" as we know it. Thanks for sucking the life out of real country music, you adult comtemporary douchebags. Oh yeah, hotel california is so clever. It's like someone took a shit, attached a pickup to it and plugged it into an amp.

Discipline - 4-9-2006 at 12:19 PM

The Beatles. I hate those stupid fucks. They didn't invent rock and roll, and they aren't the greatest band ever. They aren't even the best of their era. I'm glad John Lennon is dead. I hope that stupid hippie is rotting in the ground. Now if only Yoko and Sean Lennon would join in in hell I'd be really happy.

JawnDiablo - 4-10-2006 at 07:51 AM

I'll get back to you on this one. I have far to many bands I would like to smudge off the earth...

Dave - 4-10-2006 at 08:46 AM

this is such a tough question.........

#1 - Jimi Hendrix (just because your a good guitar player doesn't mean you can write good songs)
#1.5 - The Doors - so rebelous/cutting edge, with all those keyboards and shit, glad Jim died at a young age so they couldn't have made more music.
#1.75 - Led Zepplin - come on that guy has to be one of the shittyist, singers, right next to ozzy and that dude from Rush.

CR83 - 4-10-2006 at 10:36 AM

1. The Beatles- your songs just plain suck and you wound up being drugged out hippies.
1.5 Elvis- you were an idiot and you shit on any respectable legacy you created. One fat drug sddict.

upyerbum - 4-10-2006 at 11:03 AM

Neil Young.

(no Neil Young=no grunge)

Too many to count. Maybe the Greatful Dead, or maybe Tom Petty because I think he's a whiny motherfucker. The only thing I hate about the Beatles are todays fans saying that no band will every be as great as them. I like some of their tunes.

Tom Petty was the first to come to mind.

JUICE MAYNE MSHC - 4-10-2006 at 11:43 AM

Fugazi. In my opinion, they were the band that ushered in all things fruity in the hardcore scene. They are the ones that really pioneered this anti-hard dancing, anti-skinhead/ruffian/tough (whatever), anti-HARDcore paradigm.

moforn - 4-10-2006 at 07:31 PM

contemporary- nickelback
all-time- so many- monkees come to mind first, they sort of ushered in the whole pre-packaged "band" thing
punk/HC- hmmmm...there's so many new bands that could be brought up but aren't worth the space, for older stuff- the Exploited come to mind, I guess they weren't that bad and could be forgiven except that they've spawned so many shitty bands that play the same song over and over that I can't stand them anymore.

moforn - 4-10-2006 at 07:34 PM

I have to confess I actually like Neil Young, The Beatles, and Tom Petty (some of their stuff anyway).
Just a question for the Beatles haters, is it the music or the social phenomenon that earns your contempt?

tireironsaint - 4-10-2006 at 07:36 PM

Between Discipline's post and Dave's, I think my top picks are all covered. I'm surprised to see some of those bands listed just because I always argue with people about how worthless those bands are and I rarely find anyone who agrees with me.

JawnDiablo - 4-10-2006 at 07:56 PM

can erae be via buller?
well add 50 cent to my list

Both. I think the music sucks. It's annoying to listen to. As for the phenomenon that is The Beatles, it pisses me off to no end that people are still sucking the dicks of the Beatles. Same goes for the Rolling Stones.

Moforn, I confess that some of the very very early Beatles songs were decent Rock 'N Roll, but they quickly turned to Pop crap and then to ridiculous hippy dippy bullshit that makes me physically ill. The main thing I hate about them is that they opened the doorways to Pop music taking over everything and squeezing real Rock 'N Roll out of the picture.

Discipline, old Stones stuff is amazingly good Rock 'N Roll. I admit, they've been sucking that cash cow's teat for way too many years now, but those guys were unbeatable at their peak.

Discipline - 4-10-2006 at 08:44 PM

Can't dig the stones. Not even their earliest shit. I'll stick to old 50's rock and roll.

gavin - 4-10-2006 at 08:54 PM

i like the beatles and the stones

Seconded. Ian MacKaye can kiss my hairy white ass. I also hate that he gets all credit for straight edge... granted his shitty band coined the term... but let's face it, plenty of bands in the same era took the idea and ran with it(SSD comes to mind) and plenty of others took that and made it what it is today. If MacKaye and his Dischord pansy pals had been the sole contributors to that idea ALL straight edge kids would be lipwristed faggots.

Almost any "hardcore" band from Orange County/Huntington Beach CA should be erased from hc history...

DaveMoral - 4-10-2006 at 11:53 PM

I have a lot of contempt for the Beatles... especially most of their solo stuff. I just hate how hard they're jocked and I can't for the life of me figure it out... then again, drugged out hippies thought the shit was "deep" and whatever.... GAY. The Stones were better, but come on... a bunch of geriatrics milking the damn thing is just rediculous.

Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linkin Park etc etc etc

Sepultura post-Max Cavalera.

JUICE MAYNE MSHC - 4-11-2006 at 12:09 AM

I would like to add EUROPE and ENUFF Z NUFF

Dude I can understand hating Fugazi, but how the fuck can you call Minor Threat a shitty band?

BDx13 - 4-11-2006 at 08:32 AM

and following that assumption, I'll add...
AN/GUTG is American Nightmare, who eventually changed their name to Give Up The Ghost.

Since this is a quality board, I'm gonna assume that you're asking because you don't know what band that is, not because you'd disagree....
:) :) :)

You are correct.

Man you take this kinda shit personally. I owe John Lennon absolutely no respect at all. He was just another drugged out hippie who wrote shitty songs and thought way to much of himself. I stand by every negative statement I've ever made about the Beatles and each of the individual shitheads in the band.

i would have to go with the Grateful Dead or Pearl Jam, just can't fuckin stand em.

As far as the stones & the beatles i can tolerate some of their stuff.
I dont think you can knock old heads that have been fans of theirs since the begining.
i hope that some of the bands i listen to now are still going strong when i am an old man,
as long as they are still puttin out descent stuff.

JUICE MAYNE MSHC - 4-12-2006 at 09:24 AM

I don't hate Fugazi because they're not "siqq hxc-dance bringing/ruffian/tough"...I hate them because they're anti- everything cool...whether that's Sheer Terror, Madball, the Bad Vibes, or fuckin Ducky Boys.........Fugazi is cocksucker music.

XHonusWagnerX - 4-12-2006 at 09:32 AM

For me it would be who ever started "Thug Core" and brought all the excessive violence, gang mentality & bullshit to Hardcore.

You know, when I first got on the internerd and started reading more about what Ian is up to these days, I felt similar... I thought it would be cool if he was into current hardcore... If Dischord released some new hardcore bands.... I didn't really know why he didn't want to have much to with the modern hardcore or straight edge scene........... BUT EVERYDAY I HAVE TO DEAL WITH HARDCORE KIDS I UNDERSTAND HIM MORE...... EVERY NEO-HARDCORE BAND I LISTEN BY MISTAKE, THE MORE I THINK IAN IS FUCKING RIGHT.....

I hear what you're saying...aside from the band's music...I think the dude acts like he never was a crazy kid into hardcore and fighting with people and being crazy...kinda like "I'm so sophisticated and grown up now, I turn my nose up at you and your current scene" He's just a douche to me.

No, I don't think that's the reason for Ian's attitude. I think he's 100% as punk as when he was a kid.
It's just that the current scene sucks so hard and is so far away from the original hardcore that a 40 year old dude simply has no use for it.

point taken...however, I know guys who are 40 and older who are still involved with hardcore one way or another even though they feel the same way you or even Ian Mckaye do about the currect scene.

newbreedbrian - 4-12-2006 at 11:56 AM

never been that big of a fugazi fan. i'd liked a little bit of the early stuff but since then they're awful. but i have to give him credit. of all the people from his generation of the hardcore scene, he's one of the few who stuck to his ethics. he's had many opportunities to sell out or compromise but never has. he's been running a diy label since he was a teenager. has always kept ticket prices as well as cd/lp prices low. if nothing else, for the sheer greatness that was minor threat gotta give him credit. all the bands/people in "hardcore" scene today hatin on him will never come close to equalling that band.

beaner - 4-12-2006 at 11:58 AM

bon jovi and guns n roses would be first then maybe nirvana. if no nirvana, there would be no foo fighters. 2 for the price of 1.

Thanks to DMS and idiots like the FSU crew.

crazyfists28 - 4-12-2006 at 04:57 PM

i'd probably pick nirvana, to me they deserve no recognition for being anything talented whatsoever. dave grohl is a great drummer and i give him credit for his probot band and even foo fighters, its catchy as hell, but to me, nirvana wrote one big song and the rest was just cuz of the era, grunge...ugggh, i hate it. he can't sing, can't really play guitar yet they put him on a pedestal with legends like hendrix and lennon saying that he is with his peers for being a coward and killing himself, fuck nirvana
