Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

The Casualties

Discipline - 4-10-2006 at 11:30 AM

What is the big deal with this band. I see them getting hyped all over the place. I saw a video of theirs the other day and wasn't all that impressed. Music wasn't bad, but the vocals were fucking terrible. I can't see how that would be pleasing to a persons ears.

Any fans here?

upyerbum - 4-10-2006 at 11:31 AM

Cashgrab.

BDx13 - 4-10-2006 at 12:03 PM

i've only heard them once, when they played with brain failure a while back.
not sure what their cds sounded like, but if i remember correctly, they have a pretty crusty sound, vocally, don't they?

DeathByForce - 4-10-2006 at 02:12 PM

They're pretty damn terrible. I've had to sit through them too many damn times.

joemaconmovies - 4-10-2006 at 02:20 PM

I saw them live at the Bruisers' reunion show in Boston. I walked out they were so bad. I have "For The Punx" though. And yah D...they are fucking incredibly crusty.

Discipline - 4-10-2006 at 03:56 PM

So I'm not alone in this. Those vocals were fucking terrible. I can't understand their popularity.

Me either. I think it just may be they have that super crust punk look and kids into the crusty punk flock to them. I know that makes them sound almost like corporate sell outs but that's not what I'm trying ot say. Might all be in the look though, as silly as that sounds.

Discipline - 4-10-2006 at 05:44 PM

That ain't silly. Look at all the emo fags flocking to bands that look like fags and sing about stupidity. Never underestimate the appeal appearance has to certain people.

Kid Ugly - 4-10-2006 at 06:19 PM

Worst. Band. Ever.

Pretty much.
They make the Exploited sound creative, that says something.

Discipline - 4-10-2006 at 07:30 PM

I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Exploited.

tireironsaint - 4-10-2006 at 07:31 PM

I remember when they first came out, they were doing basically the same thing they still do, but it wasn't quite so played out as it seems now. They came across as a new version of The Exploited at the time. A lot of people got into 'em because they were so over the top Punk, but after the first 7 inch it just turned into a ridiculous cartoon. I think they're fuckin' horrible and are just making Punk more of a fashion and less of a real subculture. At this point it really doesn't need any help in that department.

Death Before Dishonor, Lionel, the Exploited may well be responsible for Speed Metal.;)

joemaconmovies - 4-10-2006 at 09:59 PM

I don't think the Causualties are trying to make it a joke or anything. They just got unlucky. I also object to anyone calling any music out today emo. It's just a name giving out by stupid kids. It's not a real genre anymore.

tireironsaint - 4-10-2006 at 10:33 PM

Oh, I know they aren't TRYING to make it a joke, they're just such a joke of a band that between their music and their three foot mohawks they can't help it.

If all these emo bands aren't really emo, then what DO you consider emo.

joemaconmovies - 4-11-2006 at 12:17 AM

i'm not an expert on it but my friend is a fan of the emo genre from when it started. the real "emo," not this pop rock people are trying to pass off as emo now. there's a difference.

DeathByForce - 4-11-2006 at 12:55 AM

mark v. and i had an interesting conversation about emo over on the ducky board.

yeah, this shit in the mainstream definitely doesn't live up to what emo is.

it's still give and take though. there was some quality shit but it's definitely a lot softer than the tougher side of hardcore.

joemaconmovies - 4-11-2006 at 09:23 AM

i believe that was the point of emo though, to not be as hard as hardcore.

Discipline - 4-11-2006 at 11:51 AM

So yer talking Rites of Spring and the old shit like that from Dischord.

joemaconmovies - 4-11-2006 at 12:10 PM

I don't want to name names, but I had a long discussion with my friend about it and he named off bands. I just don't remember them quite off the top of my head. For some reason I remember Sunny Day Real Estate being mentioned.

Discipline - 4-11-2006 at 01:13 PM

Me neither, but I don't have the same contempt for it as I do for the pop/boyband/shoppingmall "hardcore" thats going under the name these days.

ENDERA.x - 4-11-2006 at 07:29 PM

They are a punk band that have been around for a long time that are cool to like if you are into street punk. I personally never liked them.

I saw a music of theirs on Much Music and I laughed.
Anti Establishment my ass.

joemaconmovies - 4-11-2006 at 10:20 PM

i give props to their hair because they can really spike that shit up. i could never get my hair or 'hawk to look that fucking good. but i'm not a fan.

upyerbum - 4-12-2006 at 02:58 PM
