Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Roger Miret / Peta / KFC

Spoiler - 4-14-2006 at 07:26 PM

Revered by many as the godfather of hardcore, AGNOSTIC FRONT and THE DISASTERS frontman Roger Miret has never been one to pull punches when it comes to saying what he thinks, and that's especially true now. Just about to embark on a whirlwind tour of Europe and the U.S. through June with THE DISASTERS, Roger jumped at the chance to shoot a hard-hitting ad blasting KFC for its despicable treatment of chickens for his pals at peta2 ? PETA's Youth Division. In the ad (which can be viewed at this location), Roger is shown next to the tagline "KFC's Secret Recipe: Live Scalding, Broken Bones, Crippled Chickens. Boycott KFC!" while holding out clenched fists with the letters "KFC SUX" tattooed on his knuckles. Fans flocking to peta2.com to see the ad will receive a bonus: a chance to win AGNOSTIC FRONT and THE DISASTERS DVDs and CDs, T-shirts, and hoodies.

Roger, who grew up on the streets of New York and spent several months in prison in the 1980s, explains, "It took me [doing] really hard time to actually know what it felt like to be an animal and to be caged up to see it from the other side. It changed my whole life." The hardcore veteran ? whose latest albums with THE DISASTERS and AGNOSTIC FRONT, "1984" and "Another Voice", respectively, won accolades from fans and critics alike ? has a soft spot for animals.

"It's up to people like you and bands like us to speak up for their beliefs," says Roger. "It just takes one to start it, and millions will follow."

Roger joins an ever-growing list of musicians ? including SICK OF IT ALL, WITH HONOR, H2O, and STRETCH ARM STRONG ? who have teamed up with peta2 to inspire kids to challenge outdated, cruel attitudes about animals. Also featured on peta2.com are celebrity interviews, message boards, merchandise, downloadable voice-mail recordings, and chances to win great prizes like free concert tickets, iPods, and more.

I think this is pretty cool, regardless of whether or not dude's vegan... makes sense just in general to boycott KFC.

Kudos to Roger.

I don't think he's vegan. I'm pretty sure he ordered salmon when Thorp and I had dinner with him!

God, I love salmon. And fried chicken.

JawnDiablo - 4-15-2006 at 05:30 PM

yeah me either its just a pain to do it by flashlight when i get home from work

Discipline - 4-15-2006 at 07:05 PM

My BBQ is going all year round. In the winter I pull it right up to my balcony door so I don't have to go outside. I just open the door and it's right there.
