a question for BD about JAMESONS whiskey

I jsut bought a bottle for a frined of mine who jsut had a baby girl. It was $23. I had double shots of it at a bar once and it was $12. Do they have many different type of whiskey? was the $23. their cheap whiskey. Is it shitty? I loved the shots I had at the bar. I thought it was the best tasting whiskey I ever had.

Jameson does a number of varieties, so obviously, some are more inexpensive than others. I wouldn't say cheap. Also, they are the biggest selling Irish whiskey outside of Ireland.

So, $12 for a double shot sounds about right for their standard stuff or maybe even the Crested Ten. Glasses of the 12 or 18 year or the Gold would very likely cost more.

The snobbery around Scotch and Whiskey is quickly becoming similar to what it is among wine fans. You know my favorite kind of wine? Anything under $12 a bottle. I can't appreciate the differences found in more expensive bottles, and $15 is my absolute limit in the liquor store. Scotch is different for me though. I'll spend more for something I like, but the stuff tends to last for a while, so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Really, this is all that matters...

I would recommend trying Tullamore Dew. My personal favorite Irish whiskey, and one of the smoothest drinks on the planet.

^^^^^ I was jsut thinking I got him a shitty whiskey thats all. I wanted to get him what we had back a few years ago at that bar. I jsut wasn't sure it was the same kind of Jamesons.

I've never seen it in North America but my uncle brings over an Irish called Red Breast that's pretty amazing, my grandfather refers to it as "angel piss".

I've seen Red Breast in American bars before.

Anyways, I prefer Scotch to Irish Whiskey and my main favorite is Glenmorangie 18, which they discontinued recently. Following that, any of the several Glenmorangie 12 years. Where I live, you can find Glenmorangie 12 years for about $30 at Trader Joe's.

Never been a huge scotch drinker. I find it too woody. If that makes any sense.

i've been trying a lot of different scotches over the past two or three years (bartender friends are a huge help in this endeavor), and lagavulin is far and away my favorite. it's an islay, so it's definitely pretty smokey, but not crazy smokey like laphroaig. what i like is that it's so damn smooth. a bottle here runs about $65, though, so i really don't drink it regularly.

I was in Austin Texas this past September to visit my brother, and we went to a small irish pub downtown to get some lunch. had chicken fried steak of all things. anyway the guy who owned it was actually from ireland and being i mentioned i was from Philly, he started giving me samples of different top shelf irish whiskeys. i had a talymore dew which was aged more than what i usually see around here, and i must say that was the smoothest stuff ive had. also the jameson stuff that costs $60+ a bottle is great, but who can afford it. i drink the regular jameson with my beer when im at my local irish pub. it dont get old to me.
