I've Been thinking about this for awhile............

maybe getting rid of most of my records. I rarely listen to them anymore, and it's been along time now since i've even bought any new ones. It's a hard decision to make, after 17 years of buying off and on, i find myself debating this every few months.

Anyone else ever go thru with this and regret it? the $$ i would get would be nice. But just not having them anymore, it's a hard decision.

Any thoughts from the Thorp Family?
Of course if i do go thru with it i'd give you all first dibs on them before they hit ebay.

I've sold a shitload of records off over the years, some I'm very glad to not have anymore, but most of them I really regret. I would advise against it unless you just need to do it for whatever reason. Having said that, I'd still be interested in seeing what you've got if you start selling 'em.

I am ,according to my wife, the KING of packrats and getting rid of any of my various collections is near impossible. I have in the past sold things and traded things or just given them away to friends and family. I have regrets when it comes to some things but not with most. It makes room for more shit

I would say if you are considering this for the money mainly, think twice, I'm sure some of the stuff you have is irreplaceable. If your doing it because the passion is no longer there, maybe filter the ones that really mean alot to you and dump the rest. This is a hard thing to do for a collector though. I hope my rant helped a bit.

its true the drive to get more is fading/gone, i will for sure, keep some of my favorites, & probably most of my 7"s. if and when i go thru with it.

maybe i'll post a list and see if anyone wants any of them, and maybe just cut down alittle. some would be cheap, and some would not.

It's a good start to see if this sits well with you. You know they would be going into good hands if you sold to the people here.

dave, i have the same debate with myself on a regular basis. especially now that my wife is home with our daughter fulltime and we're buying a house this summer. it's kinda like in cartoons when Wile E Coyote gets hungry in the desert and a cactus turns into a mirrage of a roast turkey, except for me, a half dozen record boxes turn into a down payment!

but really, i haven't been buying much at all the past several years, so most of what i have is from when i was younger. and in a way, that makes it harder cause even if i don't listen to them, i still feel sentimental about 'em.

I still have all mine and I buy new ones very seldomly. I cant seem to get rid of them because they are worth more to me then the actual value. I probaly will someday, but who knows.

I know that Porcell always said he was sorry he got rid of his records when he went to live in the temple.

Lets jsut say I lost msot of my collection in a flood. No really I did. Anyway, If it is really important to you then DO NOT DO IT. However I got to admit I don't stress about them at all now they are gone. I realised I never gave a shit about them seriously. I only had them as stature in a way. Its weird to think that but seriously. Most record collectors only brag about what they got and rarely care about the music. I spin cd's and thats fine with me. They sound better anyway.

If you do sell them I'm sure everyone hear would like to check them out.

that's the same as how i feel, i've sold the odd record over the years, cleaned out the stuff i didn't want anymore, but more & more, i come closer and closer to just purging pretty much all of it.

I havent collected for nearly 17 years so my attachment to my stuff definitely isnt the same as you, but the thought of selling some of my stuff runs through my head too. Especially lately when I look at my bank account. Ive never gone through with it though. Im not sure what it would take to finally sell.
