Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

going to shows

JawnDiablo - 7-27-2006 at 07:10 PM

Do you guys go to many?
I don't much anymore.
I'm pushin 32 and for some reason, regardless of however good the bands are, i'm just not into the people im around.
maybe its just me.
besides going to shows at the khyber in philly when someone i like is there, or somethin really special i just balk at the whole idea.....

Voodoobillyman - 7-27-2006 at 07:38 PM

It's rare for me with the family and all, and I tend to agree with you Juan, I just dont like assholes standing too close to me. I'd say once every two or three months, something will come along I am willing to brave. right now I'm going to see Sasquatch and the sickabillys in August and then Social D in October.

sippers - 7-27-2006 at 08:20 PM

your not alone alone im pushing 35 in sept, and i feel the same way...after the dresden 45 show in nov im done..

crazyfists28 - 7-27-2006 at 08:21 PM

i just wish that i could have my own seat front and center where nobody blocks my view and nobody touches me and then i'd go to every show that even remotely interests me

DaveMoral - 7-27-2006 at 08:30 PM

I'll be 27 in October and I've been feeling that way. I think it comes with kids and old age.

XHonusWagnerX - 7-27-2006 at 08:31 PM

I dont go with very few exceptions

Discipline - 7-27-2006 at 09:04 PM

Back in the younger days I used to go to damn near every show I could. These days I'm going on 30 soon and have a broken down body and a rather jaded view on the "scene." The only time I hit a show these days is if it's a band I love, and those are few and far between these days.

RomanticViolence - 7-27-2006 at 10:53 PM

I haven't been to a good show in a long time.

Most of the time i can't go because of one of the following:

1. I don't have a babysitter.
2. I'm broke.
3. I have to work the next day.
4. The show is to far away.

I would like to go to a good show somtime before the summer's over though..

tireironsaint - 7-27-2006 at 11:37 PM

Where I live now I have to travel at least 3 and a half hours to see anything approaching a real show. We occasionally will get something worth going to here in town, but it's either a big deal up at the college venue (which means it's a sit down thing and overpriced as well), a teenybopper thing with at least one of the local screamo bands on the bill (I swear, those bands are like roaches, there's nowhere on earth you can escape them), or some kind of Country thing (Drag The River comes through every once in a while, for anyone who knows who they are) where most of the crowd are drunken frat types.

Back home I was spoiled. There was something worth going to at least once or twice a week, but I usually didn't go because it was always available to me. For years I went to every show I could, even a lot of shows where I had never heard of a single band on the bill, just because that was what my friends and I did. As I got older that slowed way down and it took more and more to make shows worthwhile for me. I guess I was kinda like those jaded scenesters in a way, because I felt like bands needed to impress me for me to do more than stand in the back or walk through the crowd a time or two. Now I realize how good I had it and how much I miss it, but I'm sure I still wouldn't go to more than a show or two a month unless it just happened to be the month that everybody good came to town.

I do have plans to go down to New Mexico for two shows next month, which will be nice. I don't even remember the last real show I saw.

the bad vibes would fall into the catagory i mentioned.
ive made it out to see them 2 times in the last year. wouldnt miss them.
tryin to think of who ive seen in the last 12 months
all that comes to mind is
bad vibes
joe coffee
murphys law
madball (disappointing, not them, but the setup)
actually all but the madball show were at the khyber too.
im going there tonight , just to visit an old friend who bartends there.

JawnDiablo - 7-28-2006 at 05:37 AM

also hoping to go to CBGB to see north side kings in september....

BDx13 - 7-28-2006 at 09:08 AM

Last show I went to was The Pogues in March. Before that was Starkweather / Bad Vibes in November '05.

Coming up... Gorilla Biscuits in August, then Andrea Bocelli with the New York Philharmonic in September. That's it. That puts me at 4 shows in a year. Yikes.

Reason? Mostly family responsibility. I just don't think it's appropriate for me to take off for a show and leave my wife to watch our daughter. We go to non-hardcore shows together, but when it comes to bringing the mosh, I'm on my own.

Gooch - 7-28-2006 at 10:40 AM

I haven't been to a show since April 2005. Just don't have the time these days...work, kids, wife, house, etc. There are plenty of shows I would love to go to, but they're always too far away. There's a place in Harrisburg that has some killer shows, but that's like a hour and half drive. 3 hours drive time, plus 4 hours show is too long for me. I wish there were more shows in Philly. Well, I'm sure there are plenty of shows, just not the bands I want to see.

I'm definitely going to GB , though there's a show the night before that I would rather go to, but again, its in Harrisburg. Hopefully I'll get to one of days of the Philly Fest. I'm waiting for the line ups to get release so I can see which day has the best bands.

I get bummed about it mainly because shows are my only chance to see some of my friends. Most of the time seeing the band is secondary, I just like hanging out with people I never get to see anymore.

clevohardcore - 7-28-2006 at 10:56 AM

I go to shows. Not nearly as many as in the past. Simply because shit sucks anymore. Seriously. How often does Social D, 7 Seconds, or its simply because I am getting old. The new shit is just that. Shit.

clevohardcore - 7-28-2006 at 10:59 AM

Shows this year have been

WISDOM IN CHAINS
IGNITE
MADBALL
Murphy's Law
shit I think thats it this year.

Will be Gorilla Biscuits, SOIA, and if any others are announced that appeal to me. I have no desire to see this new garbage like "everytime I cry" or whatever.

moron - 7-28-2006 at 11:04 AM

I might go see Lagwagon tonight. I almost went to see Municipal Waste two weeks ago, but got too lazy and just sat around watching tv instead. I used to be much more motivated.

Im getting off my ass to see Mastodon again in September though.

thedog - 7-28-2006 at 12:52 PM

i dont go to many shows at all any more.
for awhile i was workin alot of nights and weekends so that didnt help much.
now i just usually have no one to go with, so i end up saying fuck it.

SAAAAARS - 7-28-2006 at 06:08 PM

i'm in the youngsters club. i go to quite a few, especially compared to everyone else haha.

I'm still a runt too, so I try to get to everything I can. Local shows have been a drag though, local scene has been in the shitter since high school ended.

BKT - 7-31-2006 at 10:57 AM

I've seen every band I have ever wanted to. I don't go so shows anymore, it does not really intrest me. I still buy the music and love hardcore, but shows and the losers in this scene are not for me at all.

MM.

godabandonedme - 7-31-2006 at 11:09 AM

Word. I soooo wish I didn't go to the last show I went to.

DAK - 7-31-2006 at 12:15 PM

I am 35 and don't go to show that often. It usually has to be a band I really want to see. I live a hour out of Houston and most show happen during weekdays. Plus having to put up with the karate kicking bullshit singing arm assholes.

moron - 7-31-2006 at 12:54 PM

I didnt end up going to see Lagwagon. I was too lazy. Ya know... the usual.

crazyfists28 - 7-31-2006 at 02:28 PM

i do that alot nowadays, plan on going to something and then just end up staying home or finding a reason why not to go rather than just going to have a good time

upyerbum - 7-31-2006 at 02:52 PM

I get out whenever I can, you gotta' support the scene or it'll get taken over by hippies. I'm trying to get more involved in helping along some of the younger bands, we're soon gonna' start recording some local bands for cost, which won't be much and trying to get some more East Coast shit out there. There's lots of good shit happening out here scene-wise lately and I want to keep it that way. I don't think age is a factor really except I can only last two or three songs in pit :(.

XHonusWagnerX - 7-31-2006 at 06:47 PM

Im going to the Gorilla Biscuits on Saturday.... that will be the first show Ive been to in quite a long time.

in worcester?

JawnDiablo - 8-1-2006 at 05:48 AM

the more i've been thinking about it, the more i wish i had gotten a ticket for the GB show here in Philly.....

JoeBenzon - 8-1-2006 at 02:36 PM

I go to tons of shows right now. And I always will. I can see myself getting less involved as I get older, not because I want to, but because I kind of have to. We'll see what happens.

ENDERA.x - 8-1-2006 at 02:46 PM

there hasnt been a good show here in 6 months now at least, maybe 7.

upyerbum - 8-2-2006 at 11:41 AM

Oddly enough we've got a pile of good shows coming up in the next two months.
Looking forward to seeing some good shows.

rubeboy - 8-2-2006 at 01:47 PM

I'm 36 and I go to more shows than I'd like, most of them are because I'm friends with someone in the band.

As for shows I really want to see, Murphy's Law are playing Rex's in West Chester in September and maybe the SOIA 20th anniversary show in NYC. There just aren't enough bands I give a fuck about anymore to want to leave the house

JawnDiablo - 8-2-2006 at 01:55 PM

I'm going to the murphys law sho at rex's fo sure

BDx13 - 8-2-2006 at 02:57 PM

Rex's doesn't promote for shit. I hate that place.
If any of youz go to a chow there, lemme know, since I live right near by.

dgp - 8-2-2006 at 07:08 PM

im 35 and still go to 100+ shows a year. i travel for shows constantly as well.

however, i dont have a house, a wife or kids so this is easy for me.

sinister - 8-6-2006 at 07:54 PM

I stopped going to shows completely for about 4-5 years in my late 20's, usual thing with the guys I hung around with moving away, getting married, growing out of the music, usual shit... but when I hit 30 I decided to get back into it and started going to shows on my own for a while, met some great new friends and for a few years we were hitting like 1-2 shows a week.

But the last year or two the metalcore thing has really taken hold so there's so few new "hardcore" bands I'm interested in seeing, plus there's not many of the old school bands touring, so we're down to maybe 1-2 a month now and most of those ain't even hardcore. Lucky I like some rock/folk/pop type stuff too otherwise it'd be a long fuckin' wait for a decent show...

Saw Agnostic front twice last month and 100 demons are playing in a few weeks so hey things could be worse. Also gonna see Dresden dolls again soon, not h/c but great to see live, check 'em out at http://www.dresdendolls.com/downloads_n_lyrics/index.htm if you not heard 'em.

Let me know too, I'm such a lazy ass I've not made it out for Murphy's Law anytime they've been in or near Philly.

JawnDiablo - 8-7-2006 at 05:59 AM

I am going to the Murphy's LAw show in WC hopefully.....
I heard things of a Ramallah show In Philly soon, but have not seen anything confirmed anywhere.
anyone?
