ROSE TATTOO Frontman Is Cleaning Houses For A Living - July 31, 2006

Nui Te Koha of the Herald Sun has issued the following report:

Rock great Angry Anderson is cleaning houses for a living. Anderson, 57, ROSE TATTOO frontman, is earning a quid with a string of day jobs including cleaner, landscaper, builder and plumber.

"I'll turn up to a job and people will ask: 'Aren't you Angry Anderson? What are you doing here?' " Anderson said.

"And I'll say, 'I'm here to clean your house, or, I'm here to work. It's honest work and I'm not above that."

Anderson, who will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in a fortnight, relishes doing manual labour when he is not onstage.

He routinely scours newspapers for jobs and has regular contract work as a cleaner and plumber.

"It's a way of staying in touch and I love working with other men," Anderson says. "I'm a typical boofhead Aussie bloke who enjoys the company of other boofhead Aussie blokes.

"I love the whole tradie labouring ethic. At the end of the day, you feel like you've done something.

Angry is and always will be the man. I loved him as Ironbar in "Beyond Thunderdome". Doesn't surprise me at all, he's a good man, he has a Jerry Lewis style telethon every year in Australia to raise money for disadvantaged kids, oh yeah, he can fuckin' wail like nobody else too.

Think AC/DC with more edge. If you've ever listened to that GnR E.P. "Lies, Lies, Lies" the song "Nice Boys" is a Rose Tattoo cover. Definitely in my top 5 bands of all time. If you like good solid Rock n Roll check them out. Pete Wells, their slide guitarist just died recently (R.I.P.) but he was also a very well known tattoo artist in Australia. If you want to check them out I'd say any album except Southern Stars, I didn't really care for that album, however I haven't heard it in years, but any other album will not disappoint.

He's probably not rich either and could use the cash. I don't think those guys ever struck international stardom but i really wouldn't know. I should thank Newbreed Brian for turning me onto them.

They did well in Europe over the years, they were actually label-mates with Cocksparrer on some label out of France in the early eighties. They had mullets way before it was a mullet, in Australia they actually used to call it "The Droog".

I never heard of them, but I have heard the GNR song. I'll check them out. Got to hand it to him. Alot of others would cry and bitch and moan about being cool in the past, but that dude just keeps moving along.
