Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Top Selling HC Album of all time?

CR83 - 8-8-2006 at 08:44 AM

Mrs. Reed83 was wondering what would be the highest selling HC album of all time. I wasn't 100%. Here are the ones that come to mind:

1. Age Of Quarrel
2. Minor Threat Discography
3. Walk Among Us
4. Some AF Record that I don't know the name of

I now send it over to the HC Experts here at the Thorp Board

clevohardcore - 8-8-2006 at 09:17 AM

definitely not AF

Its too hard to say what "hardcore" is but I'd say probably something HATEBREED- satisfaction is the death of desire. I heard that cd is close to hitting a million sales.

DRI supposedly did really well with THRASHZONE

MISFITS walk among us was a huge seller for them

I'd bet it was something HATEBREED or a crossover type band like that. It would be interesting to find out though. Seriously.

Maybe MINOR THREAT like you said. I have no idea.

CR83 - 8-8-2006 at 09:54 AM

If I'm not mistaken, during an interview with Ian Mceye (sp?) he claimed that the discography has sold like 1.3 million and that was a few years ago. Obviously it took YEARS to get that number. Who knows.

JawnDiablo - 8-8-2006 at 10:12 AM

i'm figuring it would be one of the records you see on the 14 year old skater kids t shirts. you know the reprints from 15 years ago.
i'd bet the dead kennedys sold a bunch of records.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-8-2006 at 11:23 AM

Here are a few that come to my mind as good sellers....

Misfits - Collection I
Black Flag - Damage
Hatebreed - ?????

Some that probably are not 'hard core'....

Mighty Mighty Bosstones - most of them
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
Danzig - Danzig I
Atreau
Avenge Seven Fold
A.F.I.

Discipline - 8-8-2006 at 11:43 AM

Speak English Or Die has sold more than a million copies.

newbreedbrian - 8-8-2006 at 01:52 PM

hmmm...

first suicidal?
bad religion - how could hell....or 80-85 collection
dk
circle jerks

XHonusWagnerX - 8-8-2006 at 02:13 PM

Maybe NOFX?

JawnDiablo - 8-8-2006 at 04:33 PM

im thinkin biohazard sold a shit load of urban discipline

crazyfists28 - 8-8-2006 at 04:39 PM

as much as i'd like to think its something from twenty years ago, i bet that with the way kids buy cd's nowadays it's something relatively new. i'd say sex pistols or ramones but thats punk so what do i know?

Spoiler - 8-8-2006 at 04:40 PM

I'd agree with Biohazard - Urban dicipline.
I'm sure Earth Crises sold alot of copies of Destroy The Machines too.

gavin - 8-8-2006 at 05:13 PM

having worked in an independant record store for over 5 years here's what i saw as the best selling "hardcore" cds

minor threat-discography
dead kennedys-any of them
black flag-most of them
nofx-sold tons of them. never heard them myself
rancid-all of their cds. sold ALOT of them
the clash-self titled and london calling. all kinds of people buy the clash not just punk rock types. lotta squares like the clash it seems

crazyfists28 - 8-8-2006 at 05:28 PM

black flag "my war" i need to buy on cd, i love that album

XHonusWagnerX - 8-8-2006 at 06:28 PM

Rancid is a good guess too, but if you count Rancid do you count Bling 182 cause Im sure they are in the MULTI millions of records sold.

gavin - 8-8-2006 at 08:14 PM

honestly i like alot of rancid stuff
i had to get past the whole thing about them but im glad i did

JawnDiablo - 8-8-2006 at 08:16 PM

the bass player is really good.

MyOwnWay - 8-8-2006 at 11:37 PM

Used to be:

Biohazard

Is now:

Hatebreed

Six66Mike - 8-9-2006 at 01:26 AM

Sick of it All might have sold a lot of copies for Built To Last. I remeber seeing the CD everywhere when it first came out when I had no idea who they were. It was their first major label release too I think so might have got pushed hard.

^^^^^ Supposedly in a interview Lou said that there cds sell ok in the begiining but then peeter off after a few weeks. The ones who like them buy it right away and then the its just some here and there. they say most if any money comes from tours and not the cds.

BKT - 8-9-2006 at 10:38 AM

I would put my money on Rancid as well.

They are such a good band. Love all their stuff with the exception of Life Won't Wait. That record made me cry.

Also I would have to say that SOD was a good call as well.

MM.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-9-2006 at 10:46 AM

My money is on Hatebreed unless you count AFI or Atreau or one of those bands as being 'hardcore'

CR83 - 8-9-2006 at 11:36 AM

How many albums has hatebreed sold. I think their top seller was only like 250,000 or so. Biohazard "Urban Discipline" sold over a million.

My money is on Age of Quarrel or Minor Threat.

C'mon some of this highroller on this board has to have a soundscan account. Or, maybe someone could have into soundscan for us.

clevohardcore - 8-9-2006 at 03:31 PM

I know it says hardcore records of all time but I was loking fro a total list of SOUNDSCAN of bands.

This is all I found so far. Its of SEATTLE bands only. I thought it would be interesting to post. I will still hunt around for HARDCORE bands. I want to know who is the top selling HARDCORE band or at least the biggest selling record.

*Listed because band leader Courtney Love still lived in Seattle when the album was recorded. Besides, we all know that Kurt wrote the songs.

** Listed because Dave Grohl recorded the album in Seattle?and because he'd yet to become a goofball publicity hound with a misshapen goatee.

clevohardcore - 8-10-2006 at 12:25 PM

the Accused are awsome, but I don't think they sold many records.
