show start times...

XHonusWagnerX - 9-1-2006 at 09:21 PM

What's the deal with hardcore/punk shows and the time they are supose to start at? I understand when a show runs later than its supose to and I've been around long enough to know that most shows DON'T start on time, but there is a limit!

I'm sitting outside a show in Providence right now. The website said 8:00. I figured there's no way it will start at 8:00 so I get here at 9:15 thinking that's kind of early still but things should be going soon.

Hahah guess again! There's not one band here yet and the one kid in the space said "yah 9:00 usually means about 10:30 in Providence time". What the fuck?! Put 8:00 on a website and its not starting until 10:30?! That fucking sucks!

Stupid fucking kids! Punks not dead... Its just late!

depends on the bands playing. most bands actually show up on time, at least when i've gone to shows. i've rarely had shit start that fucking late.

^^^^^ Ya thats what I call passing the time when this happens. I guess bands do this in order to get the most people in to see them. Also the clubs sometimes do this in order for more people to drink and spend money. Its like a rainy baseball game. Ya they should call the game but they figure they should wait 1 hour to tell you so you spend money food and beer.

hardcore = capitalism

SAAAAARS - 9-2-2006 at 12:46 AM

showing up a couple hours late is normal now. i know close to nothing will ever start on time. it's sad. every now and then though, there is that diamond in the rough.

This was even worse wether you drank or not because it was in a warehoue space... no bar, not soda, not noting!

Voodoobillyman - 9-2-2006 at 08:59 AM

thats shitty, who did you go to see?

Wow, Philly must have their shit together because I've never seen anything start that late here... half hour to an hour... but an 2 hours??? Nuts.

This is why I've stopped going to shows again... this and I hate the kids, my knees hurt when I stand up for so long because Lord knows I'm not jumping in no mosh pit with kids these days and that shit makes me hurt the next day.

It was a friends split LP release show. hes a solo noise performance. He does something different each time, last night he did 2 'songs' with an upright bass run through about a million effects that just makes this wall of (literal) noise. Then he did 1 more 'song' that was just him screaming into a mic which was run through all the same effects.

A band called BATTLE SNAKE also played and they rocked! Its the drummer from DropDead playing guitar. All instrumental Motorhead/Sabbath/Kyuss type rock with a screen behind them showing images on overhead projector. The images are from a comic book drawn by the band that show the adventures of the character named BATTLE SNAKE. Good Stuff!!!
