Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Saving the scene

Six66Mike - 1-24-2005 at 11:45 PM

I'm sick of reading posts on boards & myspace from bands who got their shit stolen or from people complaining about venues etc because they aren't running things the way you would.

BANDS: Do not leave your fucking tour money in the van. I am not going to give you my hard earned money because you fucked up & left yours unprotected in a fucking van. With all the bands who have been ripped off lately you'd think you would learn a fucking lesson.

EVERYONE: The scene is yours not anyone elses. If a club says no moshing, no FSU shirts, no this or that there is a simple solution. STOP GOING THERE! Stop promoting shows there. Taking away their business is the only way to teach them a lesson, not 50 posts on myspace & every other board out there.

What happened to the DIY ethic hardcore was built on? Don't take fucking hand outs. Fix shit for yourself, run your shows, don't deal with douchebag clubs, don't buy from Hot Topic. Stop beating the shit out of fucking little kids at shows and starting fighting for better clubs & shit. They wouldn't need the obscene rules if there wasn't obscene violence.

The internet has killed hardcore. Its fucking stripped it of everything that it meant, there is no meaning left in it.

Hey bro I agree. If ya compare the friendship, attitude, spirit of the HC scene in the 80s till mid 90s, to what's happening now then NOW is a big fat ugly joke. Too much cheap talk, too much fashion, too much emptiness and greed.
I even personally think that nobody should sell HC items on ebay f.i., that's not what HC is about.

unfortunately i agree. hardcore definately isnt a group of stupid kids bitching on the internet about stupid ass shit ("can you believe some guy said the word fag at the show, like oh my gawd were gonna post so many messages about it"). its also not buying hundred dollar X swatches and hoodies off ebay and listening to bad heavy metal

I think you have brought up some excellent points. The internet has allowed people to pull shit that would never fly in a face to face situation. It has also allowed bands to really get their shit out to a new audience. Double edged sword I guess.

Great thoughts though bro.

Killthehumans - 1-25-2005 at 03:48 PM

myspace is dumb anyway.....most of the kids there are midwestern suburbanites
who act like theyve been into hardcore for years , when most of them just discovered it. ITs also funny how most of them belong to the Young republican group... "cause its cool to be republican kids!!! :P

Killthehumans - 1-25-2005 at 03:51 PM

And dont get me started kids who are christian. LAst i remeber the was no Jesus ramone.

moron - 1-25-2005 at 04:03 PM

What's wrong with Christans in hardcore?????

does that qualify as a double entendre? I googled it, but it made me more confused.

Killthehumans - 1-25-2005 at 07:10 PM

I have nothing against christians in hardcore or christians in general. I have a problem with that midwestern brand of right-wing conservate B.S. ALL these church going, varsity football playing, boyscouting suburbanites who listen to hardcore to feel tough and dont listen to the lyrics or care about the culture.

BDx13 - 1-25-2005 at 08:24 PM

Hey, come on now, I was a Boy Scout!

moron - 1-25-2005 at 08:27 PM

I guess I should explain that my name is Christian, so.... bad joke on my part.

I was a cub scout. I could have gone onto boy scouts, but all of those knots scared me away. I remember having a tough time dealing with the part of the cub scout code that said you had to be "reverant" or however you spell that. My mother explained to me what that meant, and I really struggled with the fact that I didnt know if I believed in god or not and if I didnt I couldnt really be a good cub scout.

yes mike.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL HARDCORE KIDS OUT THERE.

TURN YOUR FUCKING COMPUTER OFF AND GO TO A SHOW!

having the most posts on a website doesnt make you anymore "HARDCORE" than anyone else.

Big Ugly - 1-25-2005 at 10:48 PM

I like to think those who are a little more old-school are above that kind of shit. Unfortunately the kids who are coming now live and breathe by their computers because parents and teachers continually enforce the need for computer knowledge. It's made peoples lives revolve around the stupid things. Computers are worse then fuckin tv. Remember the old days when if you saw a guy wearing a bands shirt, 99% of the time he got it a show. Now they go to the computer and order the shit in 30 seconds. I miss the old days.

Killthehumans - 1-26-2005 at 12:02 AM

Too be honest I was too a cub scout, made it too webloo too then quit cause i was scared of the scout master,

Killthehumans - 1-26-2005 at 03:30 PM

At least you guys had the good ol days, im 20 and got into hardcore and punk only 5 years ago....but still you must admit although its not as good as i heard the ol'days were its still better than better than other music scenes....(except for underground rap....they are really unified and indie and shit...but now with MTV2 and fifty cent thats being ruined too)

moron - 1-26-2005 at 04:00 PM

it's all in what you make of it. I just go to shows to have a good time, meet up with the few friends I have around here and see a few bands play.

clevohardcore - 1-26-2005 at 06:48 PM

Good job with the post. I remember going to shows in back alleys and renting out ymca's and shit. If the big clubs wont' have them then I am sure many of us will put that show on.

About the stealing money thing I have been saying that shit for a long time. WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU LEAVING YOUR VAN UNATTENED ANYWAY??? I have been in bands but never ones that took off and toured accross country but THE FIRST FUCKING THING I AM GOING TO DO IS SECURE THE EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLE.

Good job with the thread.

Its working for me!

Saving the scene

MyOwnWay - 1-27-2005 at 09:35 AM

For those of you old enough to remember the good ol' days, there was stupid violence back then. There was shit talking in the scene (remember 108, Prema, and Shelter? The butt of a lot of jokes I've heard), there were people that made it a fashion and not as substance, all of this shit being talked happened back then too. Its not the internet, ebay or hot topic. Thumbs up to the kid that bought the Thorp comp at Hot Topic. Or bought the Blood For Blood shirt on ebay. Who cares, if they are into the music. You are wrong as can be if you think there is no feeling anymore in HXC. I'd like to introduce you to bands like Champion, or Terror, or Comeback Kid, or One Up. Or bands still carrying the spirit from the day like Sick Of It All, Madball, Vision. Like all scenes HXC has its problems, but its up to the ones that "get it" to let others know what its all about. The kid whose picking on kids in the pit, dont let him/her do it. Someone who is posting shit that you see, take two seconds out of life and throw a quick post in regards to shit talking in any scene is no good. It sometimes takes one person to stand up for whats best and others will follow suit. If anything is killing HXC its us, and thats the fucking truth...

Very well put. There will always be shit talkers, fakes and assholes. Welcome to organized society. Maybe people can just do their "part" and have a section or sliver of a scene that is still theirs? Keep up the fight. If you beleive in it, it's worth fighting for. If you are fed up, then maybe go find something else. As far as I know, complaining about something doesn't force change. I will always love punk and HXC. I'm very fortunate to have discovered them.

moron - 1-27-2005 at 11:52 AM

CAN WE..... START AGAIN..... GO BACK TO WHAT IT MEANT BACK THEN.....

oops... sorry.

bystanderfanzine.com - 1-27-2005 at 11:58 AM

I 100 percent back this

but

The internet should be used to get info out, not the way it is used now

paul nastyGAMC - 1-27-2005 at 01:01 PM

fuck it. real hardcore is all around bitches. yall sit and complain about the internet yet there is a shitload of poasts complaining about what your doing right now. the inter net fuckin rules. real hardcore will always be outkast by media(mtv, and clearchanel) and people who want just a tinge of hardcore. hence the fashion queers. so fuck it. look at porn on the internet and check out girls, and the THORP web site and if you get on a message board and talk shit, then back it up or get hit. fuck posi shit. thats not the fuckin world i grew up in . GAMC!!!
i know this makes mostly 0 sense but fuck it. buttfuckit.

Six66Mike - 1-27-2005 at 09:04 PM

wow, popular thread.

ENDERA.x - 1-27-2005 at 09:28 PM

forget the scene. :o

MyOwnWay - 1-27-2005 at 09:56 PM

To the dude that was talking about fuck posi-shit. Your opinions alright with me. But I gotta tell you, just because thats how you grew doesnt mean that, its the way it has to be now. Teach others, for real. Those same kids on the block are the ones you gotta go to and help out. In the dirt is know way to keep on. And I'm not anti boards or anything like that. Its a good outlet. I appreciate the people that are cool with what I'm saying. I'm from an area where not a lot of HXC bands come around, nor alot of people around hear listen to HXC. This is an outlet for me. I enjoy talking about something that is so important to me. Even if it is on a messageboard.

gerrardp - 1-27-2005 at 11:55 PM

im not a huge hardcore veteran - i listen to alot of hardcore and than a bunch of other crap, but i basically have barely any shows to go to that are any good in my area, i dont have a scene

what pisses me off is the stupid screamo trendwhores, who they think they like such rough dirty music, when all they listen to is funeral for a friend thrice and alexisonfire, and cant stand any real hardcore

Six66Mike - 1-28-2005 at 01:26 AM

George from Alexisonfire is a fuckin sweet dude. He was supposed to be starting a hardcore band with Phil from Rise Over Run/Keep It Up in the vain of Crunch Time and shit but they don't have the time. It was gonna be like a 7" only band and no shows unless they were local St Catharines shows.
Dunno anyone else in the band but George rules. The band I can't stand but that's only because of Dallas & his singing. If they dropped that shit & went straight up metal I would love it.
