Poison Idea signs to TKO Records

BDx13 - 9-13-2006 at 04:20 PM

TKO has announced the signing of legendary punk/hardcore act Poison Idea. The hugely influential "kings of punk" recently celebrated their 25th anniversary together and will make their debut with a split picture disc alongside Kill Your Idols.

Poison Idea will be contributing a new track while KYI will produce a cover of Poison Idea's classic "Made to be Broken."

In early 2007 the label will release Poison Idea's new full length Latest Will & Testament (previously released in Germany on Farewell Records). The record features the final recordings of late guitarist Tom "Pig Champion" Roberts, who passed away earlier this year. A DVD and other projects are in the works, with support from planned North American and European tours.

The label commented "In their 25+ years POISON IDEA has influenced more Punk/HC bands around the world than it would be possible to list, including many TKO acts, and all of us at the labels are life-long fans. We are greatly honored at the opportunity to work with this is legendary and important band."

Shit yeah!

Plus how many bands have a record title as cool as "Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes?"

-------
Worcester, UK: I noticed that the new '20 years..' release has some Government Issue tracks on. I thought GI were from Conneticut area rather than Washington. What sort of catchment area do you work on when deciding what bands you release? Did you used to play in GI at one time? What did you do to piss Poison Idea off so much?
Can't wait until Fugazi tour the UK later this month.

Respect.

Ian MacKaye: g.i. (government issue) were definitely a d.c. band. i'm not sure what you mean by 'catchment area'. i wasn't in g.i., but brian baker, the bass player in minor threat, did for a few months in 1981. i have no idea why the poison idea people had a problem with me, i don't believe i've ever met them, and i certainly didn't write any songs about them.

R.I.P. Pig Champion!

BDx13 - 9-13-2006 at 09:08 PM

combined, that band weighed over 1,000 pounds.

One of my all time favorites. Anyone who denies their greatness must be destroyed. I used to like their early stuff and think the rest was too overblown, then I grew up and realized they were fucking brilliant and their early records were just the beginning of them evolving through the whole genre of Hardcore Punk in the time it took most bands to get halfway proficient at a crappy version of another band's sound.

THIS IS WHAT HARDCORE LOOKS LIKE

A friend of mine has a friend that moved to Oregon out of the blue because he wanted a chance of scenery. He picked Oregon just because thast where Poison Idea was from.

One day he was coming out of a store and saw a guy on a small scooter coming down the road. He said the guy looked pretty big and thought about how funny it would be if it was Pig Champion.... hahahah IT WAS! He went into a liqure store, came out with a bag, got back on his scooter and drove away.

The guy said that you could practicly hear the scooter screaming and begging for mercy! hahaha.....

POISON IDEA RULES!
