Im pretty sure Zoli from Ignite is hitting the right notes. I have no musical training so I couldnt tell you for sure, but that fucker can sing.

hardcore singing is like death metal singing in that it's not really singing at all. There really isn't a pitch to a scream, well at least not one that could really be notated musically. The singer from Ignite sure can sing though. My band actually played with them in front of a whopping 15 or 20 people. It was pathetic. They kicked a whole lot of ass though, even covered Bad Brains.

i always thought the different techniques used by hardcore/metal vocalists was interesting. years ago, i asked rennie from starkweather about how badly sining effected his voice, and he said it didn't at all cause those noises all came from deep inside. ...no, he was trying to sound evil, he meant it had more to do with using the diaphram (not the contraceptive) and forcing the sounds out.

any vocalists want to add to this?

I get up there and scream from my diaphram as hard as I possibly can. I get winded because I have asthma. I do the same thing in the studio. A lot of hardcore dudes just shout and their voice isn't all that loud and you have to make up the difference by raising their voice in the PA mix.

its funny because my ex and my douche friend were sitting in my room listening to ignite saying he coudnt sing for shit.

morons.

I'll put it too you this way. When the new breed records i'm still singing but i'm putting so much force behind the vocals that there are very little pitch issues...when i did the vocals on my solo project I was blowing clams left right and center because it required more vocal control than i was used too. I finally got it right but it took me a lot longer.

Do Hardcore singers sing? I'd say yes. Most dont sing melodies or things like that. Zoli from Ignite was mentioned and I think he perfected what singing in Hardcore is about. Now you have bands like Sick Of It All and Raised Fist who dont really sing , but scream and there is a pitch to it. Its not the same as singing on key but you have to sing/scream the right pitch (matched with the note of the guitar) or even the mightiest of screams will sound off.

I just scream. I try to sing from the diaphram or whatever, but sometimes that makes me shit my pants. I'm sure that it is fucking my voice up, or at least changing it; every time we record my voice sounds noticably different. I go hoarse on tour and can barley talk sometimes. Fuck it, as long as your putting your balls into it people know what's up. Besides, you can always throw chairs and mic stands and shit to distract your audience from the fact that your voice sucks.

Ask Mike Ski if he tries sing in key????
Or Zoli or Don Foose from the Spudmonsters/ run devil run. Those guys can break glass when they sing.

i think it would be awesome if people would bust out into song for no reason at all... like musicals. It would be even better if they sang hardcore ..hahaha :)
