London, Aug 10: Lindsay Lohan who is almost on a break from her hectic schedule, has found a new career which could suit her present lifestyle. She is all set to open a tattoo parlor in Los Angeles.

Instead of filming new flick Georgia Rule and promoting her pop career, she has been leisurely resting at home.

She recently had a fitting tattoo done on her hip which reads La Bella Vita (the beautiful life).

It has inspired her to open a new boutique-style parlor to cater for all her Hollywood pals.

Apparently she wants it to be cool, clean and clinical ? in sharp contrast to the usual grimy backstreet joints.

?Lindsay is setting up her own tattoo place which will be like a trendy, glass-fronted fashion store. She will work on her own designs and will market it to young society people,? a friend of Lohan was quoted by The Sun, as saying.

?Lindsay wants to create a complete brand which will move into clothes and merchandising. She?s looking for business partners and tattooists to come in on it with her,? she added.

Apparently she wants it to be cool, clean and clinical ? in sharp contrast to the usual grimy backstreet joints. whats wrong with the grimy backstreet joints ?

This is so outrageous I have no words. If this is succesfull I will lose all faith in the tattoo industry. It has been all but filled to the gills with every tom dick and harry who just graduated from some prestigeous art school and wants in on the "easy money" and has been whored beyond belief. It is not the same business it used to be at all

You know what though...I'd rather see professionally trained artists whoring it out.

Tattooing is so far from taboo now a days that point isn't even worth discussing.

Right now I see so many people who are part of the tattoo culture trying to be artists just because they can run a machine. While there has to be some happy medium between talentless tattoo machine operator and artist...I'd rather see it weighed much more heavily in the artists direction.

I'd rather see some non tattooed yuppie looking guy slinging incredible ink than one more industry person with face tattoos whos "socially unacceptable" slinging shitty ink just because their in with the crowd.

Look at those tattoo shows for example...and that Yoshi dude...the guy can;t even draw and hes doing tattoos? They got the fucking guy practicing art so he can do better tattoos...he shouldnt even be doing ink if he cant draw!

Its not just that dude...I know people like that in firends shops. Give me an artist anyday.

As far as Lohans shop...let that broad do whatever she wants...all its going to be is a bunch of socialites getting tramp stamps anyway.

there's a difference between learning to put a tattoo on someone and being an "artist"
like it or not, there's room for both in the tattoo world
you dont havta be the best artist in the world to learn the proper way to put a good tattoo on someone

For anyone with these types of tattoos who have never actually sailed the pond or any of the high seas, I have one question. This was the point I was trying to make, just because you have an art degree and consider yourself an artist does not mean you have what it takes to work in the medium of a machine and flesh. You have to pay your fuckin dues like it used to be and learn this technique. As far as scratchers, there is no room for them and they flood the business as well because the state laws require cleanliness, not skill. Tattoo licenses are paid for these days, not earned, this is where I feel the business is whored out. This whole upscale retreat for Hollywood's cultural bloodsuckers to "hang out and get plenty of photo ops" at is just another way for someone to exploit a beautiful and rich tradition without having any knowledge of it whatsoever for the sake of trend appearances.

A brass monkey was an indented plate designed to hold cannonballs. When it was very cold the metal contract enough to send the cannonballs rolling around the deck.

learning to tattoo is a skill and like learning a trade such as being a plummer

A good tattooist does not need to be a good artist if he only wishes to do 60 year old flash designs. Thats pretty obvious and doesn't have much to do with history.

The problem is that that was then and this is now. The same person who is competant enough to run a tattoo machine and trace over Sailor Jerry flash is also the same person who is not competant enough to do the portrait hes charging to do on his very next customer. Walk into any tattoo shop on earth and flip through peoples portfolios...it's fucking scary out there.

If my local car mechanic decides he wants to do tattoos and has never drawn a day in his life but can make a tattoo machine purr...his knowledge of mechanics and industry history isn;t going to polish a turd into anything other than a turd.

trends in tattoo styles are pretty funny in my opinion. biomechanical tribal from the mid-90s, anyone? i got a star tattooed on me while living in san fran six years ago for exactly that reason... i was the only person who didn't have one yet!

hahahhaaa!!! i got one shortly after they were all the rage. 2000. i went for authenticity, though, and got mine from a guy named chime on the island of moorea in french polynesia.

this is the giy who did the work. he is not a speaker of english. and he tattooed me outside, which was a first.
