Ok.. so heres my question. I use iTunes to rip CDs to my computer and to burn CDs and what not.
I recently got a cell phone that is an MP3 player and I can transfer songs to it via USB.
Problem is that it will play MP3's but NOT the files that iTunes creates.
So how can I turn my iTunes files into MP3's or re-rip the CDs as MP3's so I can use them on my phone?BDx13 - 12-6-2006 at 01:54 PM
You've basically got two projects in front of you...
1) ensuring that all future imports will be MP3.
2) converting what you already have from AAC to MP3
FIRST...
- Find your iTunes preferences. (using the top text menu, it should be something like iTunes->Preferences)
- Click on the 'Advanced' tab, then 'Importing' below that.
- Change 'Import Using' from 'AAC Encoder' to 'MP3 Encoder' and choose the setting you prefer (the higher the bit rate, the better the sound quality,
but the larger the file. I use 256 for MP3s, but most people use 128)
- Save those settings.
NOW...
From this point on, anything you import will be in the MP3 format. This also allows you to convert existing tracks to MP3. Obviously, you can change
that back to AAC or another format at any time.
SECOND...
- NOTE 1: converting all of the tracks you have already ripped from AAC to MP3 will result in you have two copies of every song. Obviously, you
could then sort by 'Kind' or 'Date Added' and delete the older AACs.
- NOTE 2: in converting all of the tracks you have already ripped from AAC to MP3 you are essentially compressing already compressed files, thus
yielding a much lower audio quality. If you're picky about sound quality, I'd suggest reripping your CDs into a high-bit rate MP3.
THAT SAID...
- Within the iTunes Music Library window (the main window with all of your tracks listed), highlight the ones you want to convert.
- Going back up to the text menu at the top of the page, select 'Advanced->Convert Selection to MP3'.DAK - 12-6-2006 at 01:54 PM
You will have to download a program to convert AAC/M4P files to MP3's.

I think the latest iTunes can do that. If you go to apple's site you could probably find out how to do it.
A friend of mine uses my computer for her iPod so I have her ipod set to only load songs manually so she can drag over anything she wants on her
ipod...and I have my ipod set to load songs automatically but only songs that are checked...so I uncheck all her girl hoseshit music so it doesn't get
loaded onto my ipod. Hopefully that made some sense.
