Madball prepares new album

BDx13 - 12-27-2006 at 12:09 PM

NYC hardcore band Madball will enter a rehearsal studio in January to begin work on their next full-length. According to the band, "We've already got some basic ideas down, and this promises to be our hardest record to date." Further details have yet to be disclosed, but the effort is expected to surface in mid-2007 via Ferret Music.

Awesome. Man, I hope this means national tour as well.

clevohardcore - 12-27-2006 at 12:20 PM

Everyone in a band should calling the next album "the hardest one yet" Seriously if that were true then the newest HATEBREED cd would have physicaly knocked you the fuck out on first listen. It didn't. Sure its good but seriously how much harder can you get then DEMONSTRATE MY STYLE?

BKT - 12-27-2006 at 12:30 PM

hahaahah that is so true. Well put.

Great point.

Jason the Magnificent - 12-27-2006 at 01:18 PM

Hopefully its not 275 songs like the last album...they buried 5 or 6 new Madball classics in a chugga chugga hour long snorefest.

JawnDiablo - 12-27-2006 at 01:35 PM

no comment, once again

Defstar Merchis Superior
Detroit Michigan Sucks
Doing More Solos

clevohardcore - 12-28-2006 at 12:30 AM

the last MADBALL was awsome. If you think otherwise? I have no idea why you even like MADBALL then. LEGACY was a kick ass cd by a kick ass band. What is great about MADBALL is they are constantly bust out great tunes.

godabandonedme - 12-28-2006 at 03:56 AM

Set It Off. I really have nothing more to say.

XHonusWagnerX - 12-28-2006 at 09:37 AM

Beyond BALL OF DESTRUCTION and SET IT OFF, I dont really have any use for them.

JawnDiablo - 12-28-2006 at 10:06 AM

each record has had stand out tracks, but a fuck ton of filler. I doubt I will purchase it.

Jason the Magnificent - 12-28-2006 at 11:11 AM

As far as I'm concerned the ONLY "new" Madball album not loaded with filler besides Set It Off is Hold It Down. I don't consider Ball of Destruction era Madball the same entity.

Hold It Down besides the two hip hop interludes was PACKED with stand out tracks. Not saying it's their best album, just that you can tell one song from the next. Look My Way and Demononstrating My Style are both pretty boring besides a couple stellar tracks.

Legacy...I bet if we Pepsi Challenged people on the album, besides 2 or 3 songs you couldn't taste the difference between one song and the other...and over 16 tracks...thats asking a lot of my attention span. It's not a bad album, its just incredibly mediocre. It could have been a GREAT...GREAT Madball EP, instead they loaded it with sub par material its another forgettable album.

clevohardcore - 12-28-2006 at 11:47 AM

Damn. I don't know what to say. Everything they have done in my eyes is good. To each his own I guess.

Jason the Magnificent - 12-28-2006 at 11:50 AM

Regardless of recorded material Madball is pretty much peerless live. I can't think of anyone whos energy even comes close to Freddy's besides maybe JJ.

Yup I am with you. Always been a huge fan of Madball, seen them live so many times and will buy the new record the day is comes out.

Agreed. They are total Pros. Much like SOIA.

upyerbum - 12-28-2006 at 04:48 PM

Madball should stay out of the studio and just kick out really good quality live albums.
Same goes for a lot of hardcore/punk in my opinion. A lot is lost in a studio mix.

Ditto

MyOwnWay - 12-28-2006 at 06:06 PM

Droppin many suckers - Its ok.
Ball of destruction - Wasnt feelin it so much overall
Set it off - definitely a great album
DMS - love this album (pride-times are changin, is an anthem to me)
Look my way - Good songs but a sorta let down from the past two
Hold it down - my favorite album by them. No more can be said
Best of - sure, why not
NYHC - If it were a full length, it had the potential to be my favorite
Legacy - Their are some songs that kill and some that dont.

...And thats my opinion.

beaner - 12-28-2006 at 07:57 PM

madball are a fav band of mine and they always will be.

Siczine.com - 12-28-2006 at 08:40 PM

I pretty much enjoy most of Madball's catalog and I think people shit on Hold It Down way too much, it's a fucking solid album. I'll be waiting for this to drop. And yeah, bands saying the next album will be their "hardest" is one of the dumbest things you can say and 9 times out of 10 it's just the opposite.

tireironsaint - 12-30-2006 at 01:57 AM

I really don't think it's necessary for me to go into detail on my opinion on this band again, I just still can't figure out what anyone sees in them or why this stuff is even called Hard Core. Ball Of Destruction was great, I admit, but nothing since then has been even tolerable and don't even get me started on how ridiculous the live show is, I've never seen so much over the top tough guy posturing in my life.

thedog - 12-30-2006 at 08:13 PM

Madball is one of my favorite bands.
and i will buy anything they put out.

Good, I wanna see them again... I'm not going to anymore hardcore shows except Madball, and potentially AF. Outside that, don't see myself bothering.

I'm not going to bother with the Earth Crisis show in B-more Jan 27, and I loved the shit out of that band for years(until the ultimate betrayal with Slither).

clevohardcore - 1-2-2007 at 11:32 AM

I jam slither out somethimes. Its not as bad as people make it. Ya its sucks compared to other EC but its still ok.

Duh. That's Madball.

Much like if you went to a Dashboard show you would never have seen so many over the top faggots in your life.

Look at that, it's one of those exceptionally rare instances where you and I understand each other perfectly.

Of course, the difference between those two examples is that I would have never expected anything decent out of emo shit like Dashboard and I at least had hope that Madball would be worthwhile live.

stateofdisgrace - 1-3-2007 at 12:13 PM

I liked Legacy. It wasn't my favorite album, but its still solid. I am looking forward to new stuff............

You know I have sen madball many times and they never seem that tough guy on stage. Maybe you caught them on a bad night. They were pissed off or something. None the less other than the tough guy shit you have to admit they put a lot into the performance. Come on give me that.

MM.

Discipline - 1-3-2007 at 04:30 PM

I gotta agree with MM. I've never seen much tough guy posturing from them onstage. If anything, it's always been about getting the crowd to have a good time when I've seen them.

JawnDiablo - 1-3-2007 at 04:35 PM

MAdball do put on a hell of a show.
I havent seen any madball bad behavior onstage (minus freddy getting in a fight at the troc a few years ago) . they do what they do and do it well.
I just wasn't big into the last record.
I prefer the earlier stuff.
Last time I saw them i wasnt really into it, and i think it had to do with the audience. It was that guns on the run tour. all the other bands were terrible.

You've mentioned this before and I laugh everytime. First song, comeback show in Philly after years, mic cuts out, sound guy gets hit.

They put a lot into it, but none of it seemed worthwhile. I honestly had the feeling that somebody was playing a massive joke on me. I believe I saw them twice, the second time just to make sure that the first time wasn't just a bad night, but I really couldn't have been less impressed. Everything seemed rehearsed and phony, Freddy looked to me like he walked straight off the set of some gangsta rap video and onto the stage with no shirt and gold chains. I kept waiting for someone to yell "Gotcha" and then start the real show. You couldn't pay me to go watch that band again. The only reason a smile crossed my face that night was because I laughed out loud before walking away from the stage.

I just can't get over that Karl singing clean crap... it takes a song that is otherwise normal EC and takes it right out of what it is. It's like EC, then all of the sudden it becomes fucking Godsmack.
