exactly. it was quiet in that regard for years, but over the past 18 months or so, it's been out of control. the majority of the registrations over
that time have been bots. i tried keeping up, but it's not worth sifting through the databse everyday trying to figure which new recent members are
legit and which ones are not.
as for the member list, i keep that feature turned off for the same reason - it's too easy to harvest email addresses for spam. that said, i'll turn

if you go to the member list page, then click on the "sort by: descending" link, you'll see all of the most recently registered members. see how most
have 0 posts and the "www" graphic?
this messageboard program, XMB, has easily been installed on tens of thousands of websites. and in every one of those cases, the process to register
an account is exactly the same. so spammers create custom software that searches the web for XMB installations (like the Thorp Board or the SGR
Board) and automatically completes the registration process using their spam business's info. the whole goal of this is simply to get links to their

every once and a while i run a command on the database that says "if member's registration date is between XX and XX, and member has 0 posts, and
