Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Bridge 9 bands

Voodoobillyman - 2-21-2007 at 10:02 AM

Are there any worth listening to in your opinion? Heres what I own and listen to on that label:

RAMALLAH (of course)
SLAPSHOT (of course)
STRIKING DISTANCE (of course)
SINNERS AND SAINTS (of course)
OUTBREAK, I love these guys
PANIC, I know they have the GAY look, but they play fast, pissed hardcore punk all killer no filler.
SOME KIND OF HATE, I just bought this used on a whim because I dig the album cover and it's pretty good, more pissed, fast hardcore punk.

* as a side note, I realized in making this list, that Thorp and Bridge 9 have shared a few of the more well known acts on this list...........interesting.

MyOwnWay - 2-21-2007 at 10:33 AM

On The Rise 'burning inside' is one of my favorite releases B9 has done.

Terror 'lowest of the low' is also a good one.

Sick of it all - 3song single. Its SOIA so of course its good.

...Thats about all I can think of other than what you have mentioned above.

JawnDiablo - 2-21-2007 at 10:49 AM

B9 is still around?

NO WARNING

Gooch - 2-21-2007 at 12:05 PM

I don't own many of their releases, but here's the ones I like...

HAVE HEART Lp- maybe the best record of 2006
TRIPLE THREAT Lp
BETRAYED 7"
CARRY ON Lp
MENTAL 7"- I wouldn't really call them a B9 band, that was they only thing they put on there. And actually I think its their worst record.
PROJECT X reissue
SCHISM FANZINE book

Steve, check your U2U's I sent my work e-mail, I'm here for awhile today and want to get this question answered. Thanks bro

Voodoobillyman - 2-21-2007 at 01:31 PM

the one I was most curious about is Some Kind of Hate, I thought they would be alright, but I really dig em. Is the self titled as good as undisputed? I'm also picking up the Tattooed Motherfuckers CD, thanks for hookin it up Spoiler!

BDx13 - 2-21-2007 at 03:13 PM

striking distance
slapshot
hope con
terror
ramallah
death before dishonor
wrecking crew
sinners and saints
soia
first blood

Six66Mike - 2-21-2007 at 03:41 PM

Miles Away is great live & put out some good albums.

I like the self titled a lot. Its a cool CD too. Its a 3" CD with a 2" clear plastic ring around it so that it is a full size CD. They did it in 2 or 3 different colors so it could be like a colored vinyl CD.

Siczine.com - 2-21-2007 at 07:07 PM

Have Heart is their best recent addition
Death Before Dishonor is great
I wouldnt consider SOIA on their roster because it was only that single shit
Hope Con is awesome
First Blood was never on B9, their demo was released by their brother label Division 36 records
Outbreak are pretty sweet

Most of their shit though is pretty forgettable, I have no idea how that label got so big so fast.

joemaconmovies - 2-21-2007 at 10:18 PM

I'd get re-issue of The Trouble's album "Nobody Laughs Anymore." Singer of The Trouble is also the singer for Panic.

joe - 2-21-2007 at 10:23 PM

palehorse aint bad

Siczine.com - 2-22-2007 at 12:01 AM

Oh fuck I forget that released Amongst The Flock...best move they made. Hardcore+freemaons=gold

tireironsaint - 2-22-2007 at 12:16 AM

Until I saw Joe's post I was wondering how the fuck everybody overlooked The Trouble. Those guys are fuckin' fantastic. I also recommend Cops And Robbers very highly. I think those are the only two bands that haven't really been mentioned so far in this thread that I could recommend. Of course I also love Slapshot and Sinners & Saints. Mental is pretty decent (the first two shows Crime Pays played was opening up for those guys and I had a blast even if I did pretty much rip my throat to shreds on the first night. Remember that shit, Steve?), and Some Kind Of Hate is not bad for a newer sounding HC band. I like that those guys are trying to rerelease a few older records like that Wrecking Crew CD and The Trouble (although that's not old at all), but they tend to fuck things up more than get things right over there. For example, how long were they promising to have the American release of that latest Stars & Stripes record before it became obvious it wasn't happening?

Voodoobillyman - 2-22-2007 at 01:09 PM

The Trouble, thanks guys, I'll check it out.

moron - 2-22-2007 at 04:12 PM

Nobody mentioned American Nightmare. I know some people here hate them with a passion, but I liked em.

I like alot of their bands.

More than worth the money.

BDx13 - 2-23-2007 at 12:05 AM

i listen to AN occasionally now, but never did when they were actually around. i have a hard time getting into a band when an entire generation of younger kids swears by them. i just assume that means i'll think they suck.

i'll check out the trouble based on these recommendations.

With very good reason. I see that band as a large part of the beginning of the current trend of all hype, no substance bands. I was curious about them when I heard the name and saw an old t-shirt design that looked really good. Based on those two things I checked them out before I had really heard any hype for them and was sorely disappointed. A while later I started noticing that they had become this huge sensation that all the little scene kids were raving about. I checked 'em out again right around the time they were changing their name and if anything, they had gotten a lot worse. Yet another band whose appeal I will never understand.

Do it. The Trouble is far and away one of the best new bands to come out of the HC scene in a long fucking time. They kind of got lost in the mix for a lot of people because they fell between the cracks of the Oi/Street Rock and Hard Core scenes. They definitely have a good bit of both in their sound and I think it's a great blend. I'm still pissed that they broke up after one full length. I also still hold a grudge against B9 for claiming that the rerelease was going to have almost a full album's worth of unreleased tracks and then just turning it into a standard reissue. I get the impression that B9 likes to hype everything as much as possible way in advance and then remove all trace of the bullshit about the release as it gets closer to actuality in hopes that people will remember being excited for the release, but not why they were so excited and just buy it anyway.

And since noone commented on my mention of Cops & Robbers, I'm gonna throw it out there again. Those guys have a much more old school, Hard Core Punk sound than anything associated with B9. From my understanding, they were kind of an in between project from some of the Pinkerton Thugs guys before The Unseen got started. Cops & Robbers is MUCH more of an old style Hard Core band than I would expect from anyone associated with either of the other bands they're involved with, but it's really good stuff.

stateofdisgrace - 2-23-2007 at 03:04 AM

CARRY ON is great.
HAVE HEART is pretty good.

DBD is another good band.

RIVALRY RECORDS is the new up and coming label in my opinion. Solid roster of bands...........

VERSE, ALLEGIANCE, THE FIRST STEP..............

I actually had that CD (cops and robbers) but don't remember it standing out, of course, I'm notorious for buying something, giving it one listen and if it dosent grab me right off the bat I shelve it. I'm just starting to dig up old shelved shit to relisten to and give it all a second and third shot. I knoe for a fact that cops and robbers was in a stockpile I sold to a buddy so I will have to recheck it out. I respect your tastes Tire Iron, so I know if I give it another try I will probably really dig it. I tried finidng the Trouble on Amazon to no avail, i will have to keep up the search. Thanks again all!

Who is the new up and coming label? *coughs*

(jokes)

I agree though. Go It Alone, Allegiance, Time For Living, some Verse songs, The First Step have a good youth crew-ish vibe, I like what Rivalry's been up to.

scratch that, I was putting in trouble, not the trouble, I found it for 4 bucks used in good condition and just bought it. I also picked up Cops and Robbers for 73 cents, goddamn you Amazon you fuckin Devil!

BDx13 - 2-23-2007 at 04:42 PM

how many of rivalry's releases are their own, versus licensed vinyl releases?

I believe most of their releases are their own minus the Killing the Dream LP (deathwish) and the Betrayed LP (EVR)

BDx13 - 2-23-2007 at 05:25 PM

i see.
quality product, either way, that's for sure.

Siczine.com - 2-23-2007 at 06:54 PM

They also released the Betrayed EP..which they licensed. Go It Alone is quality. Never got into The First Step much. Another Breath and Verse are awesome though.

Voodoobillyman - 2-23-2007 at 09:05 PM

I hear good things about Sppok City too, is it true, or a bunch of crap? The more I hear and read about the Trouble, the more I can't wait to hear it.

Awake/Strong is a very close 2nd. When you sign ALL AS ONE *coughs* (joke) then you will jump to #1!

it was supposed to be a second 2 disc release full of rarities, live shit, etc. but it never came out. i was super pissed. that and "nobody laughs anymore" was supposed to be released on limited vinyl back when the trouble were reuniting in 2005. that got canceled and is (99.9% sure) not gonna happen now.
