Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

I finally did it!

Voodoobillyman - 2-23-2007 at 09:09 PM

my wife finally convinced me to try and sell something on Ebay. I listed one item and I am proud to say I have 4 watchers and 1 bidder so far! I am pretty fucking excited about it too. If it goes well I will list some other shit I have. I never knew how cool it was. I have been a buyer for years. I should have tried selling shit a looooooooooong time ago.

moron - 2-23-2007 at 09:11 PM

Same here. Ive been using ebay for a long fucking time and I just started selling stuff last month. I get dollar signs in my eyes every time I check out my "selling" page.

BDx13 - 2-23-2007 at 11:26 PM

i probably bought in upwards of a hundred things on ebay back in the mid 90s before my roomate was like, "you should try sellin as much shit as you've bought." probably sold more shit since then than i've bought. people will by just about anything on there.

so what was the first item, voodoo?

MyOwnWay - 2-24-2007 at 12:15 AM

I've never sold. These posts are beginning to convince me of otherwise.

BDx13 - 2-24-2007 at 01:28 AM

yeah, if you're ready to part with some of your possessions, it's a great way to go.
my most recent record sale netted over $800, and that was for less than 60 records.

here it is. If the sale goes off without a hitch, I'm going to sell a SD mechanics shirt and my DKM mechanics jacket ( I hope that one pulls in a pretty penny)

JawnDiablo - 2-24-2007 at 11:34 AM

i had over 1200 transactions on ebay before i got kicked off.
i want to get back on badly.
i might use my girlfriends account.

DaveMoral - 2-24-2007 at 01:05 PM

I've bought more than sold on Ebay... juandiablo, dude, you could at least make a little bank doing something with craigslist. No bidding, but you never know.

Since I love irony, when will we be seeing the Slapshot pint glasses? :)

Spoiler - 2-25-2007 at 11:47 AM

I used to buy and sale quite a bit on ebay....made some good money at times.I auctioned off some old HC t-shirts about 6 years ago,and I couldn't beleive how much I got for them....one shirt went for $71.
I just sold a Hank III picture disc that I paid $12 for,it went for $49.

Good luck with your auctions, and let us know when you post up some more stuff

They take a tiny percentage of the final sale price. It's so little as to be barely noticed.

BDx13 - 2-25-2007 at 04:00 PM

...but there's also a listing fee and the percentage that PayPal takes on the money transfer.

depending on the value of what you're selling, you definitely need to consider the fees.

in my opinion, selling a single $4 record isn't worth the time or the money you'll net. i really won't fuck with selling on ebay unless i have a lot of stuff to get rid of or a big-ticket item. the 'sell an item' form is a LOT longer than it used to be.

Voodoobillyman - 2-25-2007 at 04:22 PM

It's up tp 2 bids with 4 people watching, this is some exciting shit! This t-shirt is hard to find too, I'm hoping to pull a decent amount.

BDx13 - 2-25-2007 at 04:44 PM

selling can be addictive.

joemaconmovies - 2-25-2007 at 09:10 PM

wish i had stuff to sell that was worth something that i was willing to get rid of.

moron - 2-25-2007 at 09:29 PM

I have this Tool cd/dvd box set thing that Ive seen go on ebay for over $100 in some instances. Ive been so tempted to toss it up there. My copy isnt exactly "mint" though.

Give it a shot bro! I just threw up a brand new Social D button up shirt with the 32 Ford on the back, hoping it does alright. It is addictive!

Discipline - 2-26-2007 at 12:12 AM

Voodoo, you got to give a link so people can check out yer stuff.

Here's the mechanics shirt.

BDx13 - 2-26-2007 at 02:59 PM

oooh, high opening bid. i'm curious to see how this goes.

Voodoobillyman - 2-26-2007 at 03:59 PM

Is that too high? I figured it was fair, that shirt retails for 45.00 and you will pay even more at a show for it. What do you think I should have set as the starter Big D? I'm new at this and could use some pointers

Discipline - 2-26-2007 at 04:19 PM

Cool shirt.

defstarsteve - 2-26-2007 at 04:32 PM

that's a good starting price
blank dickies retail are 15-18
wholesale are like 10
so I'm sure it will sell

Spoiler - 2-26-2007 at 05:08 PM

I'm the high bidder on the SD workshirt (hardcorehooligan)

BDx13 - 2-26-2007 at 05:12 PM

yeah, totally depends on the item.

since i usually only list things i KNOW will sell for a guaranteed minimum amount, i start with a very low opening bid. that gets more people bidding, and once they're bidding, they're emotionally tied to the auction, which keeps them bidding.

if i'm not sure how an item will sell, i'll usually start low but put in a reserve. only occasionally do i start with a high opening bid.

be sure to search ebay's completed auctions for a sense of what your item might go for. they've recently shortened the window on how far back you can look for free; i think it's a week or 10 days of completed auctions. you can see more, but you have to pay. they've got a million upsells these days.
