Last month, my wife and I welcomed the arrival our second child, Bennett Kingston. Born a healthy, full term baby on St. Patty's Day, he weighed in at
7.5 lbs, and was 21. That's five times the weight and nearly twice the length of his sister Sadie when she was born three months premature. But by
now, most of you are familiar with her story as an extreme preemie.
I'm writing today to ask for your support of our fundraising efforts on behalf of the March of Dimes. This Sunday, Team Sadie will gather for the
annual six mile WalkAmerica event. The money we raise helps save premature and sick babies. Premature birth is the #1 cause of newborn death and the
biggest threat to babies health today, and through WalkAmerica, the March of Dimes is funding important research to find out why premature birth
happens and what can be done to prevent it.
In 2005, we brought in over $2,500; last year, over $5,000. And both years, Thorp Board members represented with a significant percentage of those contributions. Nothing could have made me more proud. If you can't give,
don't worry about it, but honestly, every little bit helps. Seriously, our contributions ranged from $5 to $500 last year, and I was thankful for
every dollar.
We greatly appreciate all of the support our family and friends have given us over the past few years.
Thank you.

Almost halfway there.BDx13 - 4-29-2007 at 02:19 PM
we're just back from the walk.
"six miles" never sounds that bad when followed by "walk".
whatever. i'm tired.
we're about 60% of the way to our goal, and should be able to meet it by the end of the week. thorp board members are really bringing it this year,
accounting for 30% of the donations so far. that's fuckin' crazy, i can't begin to tell you how much that means to me.
here's a pic pic of me and kiddo after the walk. ok, time for a nap.

Awesome picture D. I finally got the donation to go through and I saw you guys are gettin' pretty close to reaching your goal. How much more time do
you have to hit it?BDx13 - 5-2-2007 at 09:47 PM
yeah, i saw that yours and RV's just went through. thank you so much.
right now, the actual donations are at $2,065, but if you count pledges and matching gifts (which don't display in the total until i actually receive
them) we're up to $2,283. i'm confident we'll make it to $2,500, probably within the next week. then our personal commitment is 10% of whatever we
raise.
last year was insane. we brought in $5,500. that made us the second highest family team in the southeastern Pennsylvania district. the biggest
donations basically came from corporations, foundations, then some nine year old ex-preemie go-getter, and then us. looked funny to see "Team Sadie"
up at the top of a list above all these other businesses.tireironsaint - 5-2-2007 at 10:00 PM
Fantastic. That's really impressive Big D. I always love it when people from the Punk/HC world show up the normals at anything, especially stuff like
this that they expect us all to have nothing to do with.RomanticViolence - 5-2-2007 at 10:10 PM
