Chris Benoit & family found dead....

XHonusWagnerX - 6-25-2007 at 08:05 PM

REPORTS say Chris Benoit, one of TV wrestling's leading personalities, and his family have been found dead in their home.

The bodies of Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their young son were found after the wrestler missed an engagement to attend to a "family crisis", according to TMZ.com.

Police are investigating the scene.

The official WWE website reported the deaths and said the upcoming episode of Raw would serve as a tribute to Benoit.

I read about this an hour ago and I'm still in shock. One of the best wrestlers of all time and one of the few reasons to still watch WWE. It's always the greats that die too young.

DaveMoral - 6-25-2007 at 08:38 PM

Murder? Suicide? What's the deal?

Crazy...

Canadian wrestler Benoit, family found dead

Updated Mon. Jun. 25 2007 8:05 PM ET

Associated Press

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Canadian pro wrestler Chris Benoit has been found dead at his suburban Atlanta home along with his wife Nancy and son, World Wrestling Entertainment said Monday.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities,'' the WWE statement said on its website.

WWE said information about the deaths came from "authorities'' in Fayetteville County, Ga. A spokesman for the Peachtree City Police Department said he had no information on the report, telling a reporter to contact his superior on Tuesday.

WWE spokeswoman Cheryl Kong in Toronto said Monday night's "Raw'' TV program would serve as a tribute to Benoit and his family.

Benoit, 40, was born in Montreal and lived in Edmonton. He was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy,'' the website statement said.

Benoit was scheduled to wrestle at the Vengeance pay-per-view Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons.''

Heartbreaking. One of my all time favorites, and definitely my favorite active wrestler. Not to mention the best technical wrestler on the planet until today. No one comes close.

The autographed picture I have of him is one of my prized possessions, way more so now than ever before.

DaveMoral - 6-25-2007 at 09:35 PM

I'm no wrestling fan... but didn't they call this dude the raving wolverine? He had the stature of Logan, that's for damn sure.

God rest his and his families' souls.

Rabid Wolverine. He was also known as "The Crippler" partly from the fact that Sabu's neck was broken in a match they had.

MyOwnWay - 6-25-2007 at 10:28 PM

I thought this was bullshit when I first about it, thinking it was a WWE stunt. I believe differently now... And wow!

newbreedbrian - 6-25-2007 at 10:53 PM

that's awful. definately one of the best wrestlers of all time

I have to respect that Vince cancelled RAW tonight and changed it to a 3 hour tribute to Chris Benoit. It's been an amazing retrospective on parts of his career, going back to his days in Japan as the Pegasus Kid.

random - 6-25-2007 at 11:14 PM

Not to be a total dick, but... as sad as this is, I'm waiting until we find out what happened (and yeah, I just watched the 3-hour Raw). He missed last night's PPV due to a "family emergency", and the entire family is dead today. Seems like it might not be a random intruder killing them. A big part of me is leaning towards murder-suicide, though I'm not sure whether I think the husband or the wife was responsible. Either way, it's terrible. Just not sure who I should feel bad for yet.

But yeah, it was classy of Vince to do the tribute show and to acknowledge the "Vince is dead" thing as a gimmick storyline.

BDx13 - 6-25-2007 at 11:54 PM

sad story.

random - 6-26-2007 at 12:05 AM

Here's a NY Times story. Sadly, looks like my comment above may have been right. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Wrestler-Dead.html?_r=...

I will wait and see what the police conclude, but I truly doubt Chris Benoit killed his wife and son.

I find it really hard to believe myself.

The saddest part would be that one of the greatest of all time brought tremendous shame to the business on his way out.

DAK - 6-26-2007 at 09:42 AM

i DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. This whole thing is fucked up.

Man this is really fucked up.

I mean really fucked up.

gavin - 6-26-2007 at 11:21 AM

here's what ive heard so far..........

benoit was supposed to be on a house show sat. night
he got called home for a "family emergency"
he missed the ppv on sunday night for the same reasons
wwe people had not heard from him and called the cops to check the house
monday at around 4pm they found the boies of his son daniel, who they think died on sat.
his wife nancy, who they think died sunday, and chris who they think died monday

im now hearing that nancy may have killed their son, and chris came home and killed her and himself

there is also something about weird text messages chris sent to chavo on sat/sunday but they are not giving up that info as of yet

this is a terrible story

DeathByForce - 6-26-2007 at 01:12 PM

yeah, i've heard that story circulating a lot.

that sounds logical. chris never seemed like the type to hurt a kid, let alone his own.

gavin - 6-26-2007 at 01:14 PM

now im reading that he strangled nancy on sat. and smothered his son on sunday
then hung himself sometime on monday

MyOwnWay - 6-26-2007 at 01:30 PM

If its true he outed his son and wife. Fuck him. Hes a piece of shit who took the bitch way out by killing himself. Fuck his legacy.

Muttley - 6-26-2007 at 01:49 PM

If this is all true he's completely shit on his career, his fans, and his legacy.

I'm really having a tough time comprehending all of this.

I really think I may be done watching wrestling (or at least WWE) for a while. This is just horrible.

gavin - 6-26-2007 at 01:57 PM

i dunno yet
i find it really hard to believe unless it was some sort of steroid rage thing

i also read something about him having to rush home cuz nancy and daniel were throwing up blood on saturday

True, if that is true he is a goof and belongs dead.

Discipline - 6-26-2007 at 03:59 PM

I'm still in shock. I've been following his career for about 16 years now, and have been a diehard fan the whole time. He was one of the ones I respected most, and with all the crazy fucks that are involved in wrestling he was the guy I looked at as being one of the rare normal ones that kept the sport legitimate.

gavin - 6-26-2007 at 05:08 PM

Here are details from a law enforcement news conference held Tuesday afternoon regarding what is now ruled as a double homicide/suicide involving Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and seven-year-old son Daniel in their Atlanta-area home:

X: Fayette (Ga.) County district attorney Scott Ballard said law enforcement officials believe Benoit killed his wife Nancy on Friday night via affixation, then did the same to Daniel on Saturday morning before hanging himself Saturday night.

X: Ballard said Nancy Sullivan?s wrists and feet were bound with tape and that there was some blood under her head. Ballard said Sullivan was found in an upstairs living room area. Daniel Benoit was found dead in his own bed in his upstairs bedroom. A bible was placed next to the body of Nancy and Daniel.

X: Benoit hung himself with a cord in his basement weight room.

X: Anabolic steroids and what was described by one law-enforcement official as ?lots? of what is believed legal prescription medication were found in the house. A complete list of medications may be given to the media at a later date.

X: A WWE ?co-worker? [believed Chavo Guerrero] received a text message on a delayed basis from Benoit. Officials declined to elaborate on what information the messages contained.

X: Benoit was previously arrested in the Atlanta area on a DUI charge but has no record of a previous arrest for domestic violence.

X: There was no suicide note left inside the house.

X: ?In a community like this, it?s bizarre to have a murder/suicide, especially involving the death of a seven-year-old child,? Mallard said. ?That?s what struck me the most in all this: There?s a seven- year-old little boy who?s dead. I don?t think I?ll ever be able to wrap my mind around that completely.?

?It struck me as somewhat bizarre that he would even be in the home with their deceased bodies all that time ? I?m baffled why anyone would kill a seven year old. I don?t have any idea at all about a motive.?

could be a set up...
he could have owed someone some money, and just got away with it clean

Discipline - 6-26-2007 at 09:13 PM

I hate that this has happened, but I won't let it tarnish my memories of Benoit the wrestler. I will always consider him to be one of the best of all time.

As for Benoit the person, I hate to think he had sunk to this level, to have killed his own son. I can't imagine what could have driven him to this, and I won't speculate on it either. I hope in death his mind will find peace.

If he actually murdered his wife and seven-year-old son, then I hope the piece of shit rots in a hell that I don't believe in. I'll even go so far as to say that it might be possible that the wife could have done something that pushed a mentally-unstable guy over the edge which led him to kill her, but there's never any acceptable excuse for being a god damned child killer... there's not a single fucking this in this world that a 7-year-old kid could do to deserve that fate. Absolutely nothing.

And I'm in no way making any slight excuse for murdering the wife, because that's fucking inexcusable, too... but murdering the kid just overshadows everything else.

This is true. And that's really the saddest part of all this. While he was one of the greatest of all time, he destroyed his own legacy by doing what he did.

Like Discipline I've been a fan of his for many years, and the group of Benoit/Guerrero/Malenko was a big part of why I watched wrestling in the late 90s. He was so influential, a sure bet for the hall of fame... but that's all lost because of this terrible tragedy.

I hate that he shit on his own legacy, but more importantly he shit on the whole business of wrestling. It will be a long time before the business gets past the negative impact of this story spreading all over the mainstream media.

The HGH was used because of a condition the child had called Fragile X Syndrome.

Quote:

Canadian female Pam Winthrope told News 1130 in Canada that Chris Benoit's son had a genetic condition called Fragile X syndrome.

According to WebMD, "Fragile X Syndrome is a defect of the X chromosome which causes mild mental retardation. The disorder occurs more frequently and severely among males than females. This condition is the leading known familial cause of mental retardation in the United States. Language delays, behavioral problems, autism or autistic-like behavior (including poor eye contact and hand-flapping), enlarged external genitalia (macroorchidism), large or prominent ears, hyperactivity, delayed motor development and/or poor sensory skills are among the wide range of symptoms associated with this disorder."

Winthrope, whose son also suffers from the condition, told the Canadian news outlet that her husband reached out to Benoit five years ago in an attempt to increase awareness about Fragile X.

She told News 1130, "We talked to him because I was trying to set up a support group in BC and in Canada, we only have a couple of them. My husband was struggling when we got diagnosed with our son, and Chris was struggling with his. They talked for a few minutes and then he said he didn't want to be a public face for Fragile X, he just wanted to keep it really, really quiet."

Winthrope noted that the lack of support for those affected by the disorder can tear families apart. Nonetheless, "she couldn't believe the news that Benoit had taken his life along with his wife and 7-year-old son," wrote News 1130.

This may explain why Daniel was taking growth hormone injections. It also may shed light onto why Chris didn't want someone else raising his son and made the fateful decision to kill him. As irrational and twisted as it may sound, he may have felt he was saving his son from the double-blow of losing his parents through a murder-suicide and being subject to being raised by people who didn't understand or care for his condition.

clevohardcore - 6-27-2007 at 11:29 PM

This asshole should have just NOT killed anyone and went on with his life. That selfish prick.

Great Vince interview. She is just trying to smear this whole thing. Vince does real good:

also, while this whole thing is definitely sad, i wasn't THAT moved by it first, i suspect largely because i don't follow wrestling and don't know who these people are. it was kind of anonymous, ya know?

...that is, until i watched that interview and they showed the video clips of dude and his son. that shit right there fucked me up GOOD.
