Lets talk about this for a moment shall we.. What groups or artists do you like past or present.

For me... Past: RUN DMC, Public Enemy (file under current also), LL Cool J, Eric B and Rakim, Current: The Roots, NAS, K-OS, DMX. These are ones that I'm saying really hold down what Hip-Hop is about...

Your thoughts?

Hahahaha. I don't like hip hop really but Too Short is fucking hilarious. Blowjob Betty and Fuck My Car are classic.

SAAAAARS - 3-3-2005 at 02:11 PM

i like all mainstream hip hop and rap. and jurassic5. and most everyone mentioned in this thread that isn't covered by what i've already said.

maybe every 2 to 3 years I'll put on "The Chronic", but that's about it for rap for me.

LilOz - 3-3-2005 at 03:17 PM

I like the roots, common and q-tip.

Killthehumans - 3-3-2005 at 05:19 PM

Public enwmy greatest rap group period. I Like NAS's music and lyrics but it pisses me off that hes a 5 percenter. Anyone here of immortal techniques. Guy has really inteligent lyrics. Except one pussy ass song where he describes making love with a womens mind...lame.

Newt80 - 3-4-2005 at 09:37 AM

i'm all about Kool Keith, Gang Starr, Mos Def, Outkast, and Madvillain.

crazyfists28 - 3-5-2005 at 03:40 PM

the streets, dizze rascal, then i get really lame, house of pain i still like,

tireironsaint - 3-5-2005 at 09:04 PM

When I was in High School (that was a looooooooooooong time ago, kiddies), I loved BDP and Public Enemy, but that was pretty much it and I think the last time I really listened to any of it that I liked was probably 92 or 93. I haven't heard anything that moves me from that genre since then. It basically occupies the same space in my mind that top 40 radio shit does, it's annoying and I'll only listen to it when I have no choice or I just don't wanna upset a friend who is listening to it. Of course, by "friend", what I really mean is "girl I'm either with or trying to be with", because if it was somebody I'm just friends with I'd tell 'em to turn that horrible shit off before I smash their stereo.

run dmc, public enemy, krs-one, wu-tang, redman, nas, outkast, dr.dre, nwa, tupac, slick rick, digital underground, big daddy kane, too short

i actually grew up on hip hop (until i was exposed to gnr) and fucking hate where its at today but also don't care 'cause i'm not into it.

viva hate - 3-7-2005 at 07:18 AM

oh and gang starr, the roots, pharoah monch, and dead prez is the shit too!!!!

crazyfists28 - 3-7-2005 at 07:15 PM

i like gang starr and that whole guru jazzmatazz thing he did, more original than stuff nowadays

ENDERA.x - 3-7-2005 at 07:46 PM

Nas is aight. Dmx is aight. Some 2Pac songs are aight.
D12 + Eminem are hilarious, Biggie is dope! but..

Immortal Technique, Black Sheep and Big L, and some old Bone Thugz n' Harmony are where it's at!
I haven't really discovered alotta hiphop I don't go searching for it... most of it ain't my deal.

Six66Mike - 3-7-2005 at 09:18 PM

I rarely listen to anything like that but I got some favourites:

Run DMC, Kris Kross, Young MC, Necro, Ice T and that's about it. Some Eminem from the first 2 albums now & again, a few Public Enemy songs but thats where it ends.

SmashHit518 - 3-8-2005 at 12:10 PM

Wu Tang Clan aint nuttin ta fuk wit.

i love how dave chappelle refers to the wu tang clan. has anyone seen the skit where he is keepin it real? when he flips out on the white dudes and keeps yelling "wu tang clan" and making a "W" with his hands. haha holy fuck thats funny.

BDx13 - 3-8-2005 at 02:44 PM

yeah, but the scarry part is i see and hear people do that somewhat regularly in NYC. i guess it's become just that ingrained into the culture.

Jeff trhe Greek - 3-8-2005 at 02:51 PM

House of Pain, Raggadeath, Lords of Brooklyn, thats about as hip-hop as I get.

newbreedbrian - 3-9-2005 at 12:35 AM

i was really into the first two public enemy records when they came out. run dmc, tribe called quest, grandmaster flash, first couple LL albums, boogie down productions, eric b and rakim, kool moe dee. obviously havent listened to hip hop in a long long time. i remember in like 86/87 when you had to ask for the rap tapes at the record store and they'd bring out a shoe box from behind the counter. they wouldnt put the stuff out in the regular sections. how times change.
