The original drummer from The Welch Boys passed away some time yesterday or the day before. There might be more info on thewelchboys.com once I get it. Rest in peace my friend.

wasn't he kind of in and out of the band a while back because of some of the issues he was having?

joe, if you don't mind, please pass along my and thorp's condolences.

Our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends, as well as TJ and the rest of the Welch Boys.

thanks to both of you. he left the band mid-2006 because of the problems but there was some talk of bringing him back. it never worked out though. so, really, i believe his last appearance with the welch boys was the "les paul" music video shoot. i can tell you from being there, it was simply the funnest time i've ever had shooting video and i'm glad Ron was there for it.

If anyone wants to make donations for his kids, go here and follow the instructions: http://thewelchboys.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1187555991&page=1

Hi all,
I am new to this board, having found it by googling Ron Holbrook. My name is Ed, and I was a friend & bandmate of Ron in the 80's, in The Future Villian Band.( Yeah I know, not very original but we were kids...)
Just want to thank you all for the kind words, and send out my condolences to the Welch Boys and Rons family. Even after having lost touch with Ron I am heartbroken. Ron was one of the nicest, funniest, wildest friends anyone could have. He was a naturally talented hard hitting drummer. We wanted to be rock stars and did our best to emulate our heroes, and it caught up to us all in one way or the other. Hell, I got Ron kicked out of his parents house back then for breaking a bunch of marble tiles when I smashed my beloved Gibson tube amp on his floor, thank you Jack Daniels...
Anyway, yeah Ron had a problem. Please for the sake of all musicians & friends don't gloss over this. I don't want to piss on the man's memory but when I got the call my first question was "heroin?" and the answer was "yeah, and coke.." Another past member of FVB is in a wheelchair, legless, after a drydive from a detox window and is still a junkie. I'm lucky to be here to type this in tears but lost several others including my little brother over the years.
Please, for Ron's kids, your kids, whatever. For God's sake, stay off the shit, help keep your friends off the shit, live & love life.
Sorry to be a downer, but this crap hurts people. Thanks for letting me vent. Goodbye Ronzo. Love ya brutha.

It's good to get out man. Don't apologize for venting. It's important shit. I didn't wanna get into specifics about Ronnie's problems out of respect for him and his family. I'm keeping thewelchboys.com updated with info as I get it from various sources. The important thing is to donate to his kids.

Thanks for not being offended by my rant. This was a tough loss. Seeing the old pics at the wake was brutal and at the same time a relief to know that he lived life, and touched so many by doing so. All suviving members of FVB were together sharing stories, and we all agreed it was a hell of a way to get the band back together. Thanks to Ron, some long held wounds were healed tonight.
Yes, by all means, donate to his kids. By all means, talk to your kids. Teach them to live life...
Ron, save me a spot up there and a microphone, and dammit, save me a beer!
Peace,
Ed Dion
Future Villian Band
1983-1986ish...

joemaconmovies - 8-23-2007 at 11:59 PM

I really wish I had been able to make it tonight but I wasn't able to due to reasons I won't get into cause they're not that important. Ronnie was a really good guy and the time I spent filming The Welch Boys' music videos and going to shows was really a good time. Especially the music videos, in a large part to Ron and just some of the little stuff he did.

Update-Benefit

Pastvillian - 8-26-2007 at 10:04 AM

Hi-
Craig, Ron's brother, is organising a benefit jam for Ron's kids. The original FVB lineup is already on board and Craig hopes to get Ron's other bands or his friends bands etc interested. Meanwhile, his first chore is finding a venue. Any help would be appreciated. It would be great to get a club or hall to donate space to the cause & let Craig take the door, while the bar reaps the booze profits of a guaranteed big & thirsty crowd. We musicians are all natural salesmen/whores, so any help with legwork, promotion, wanting to play, and especially a venue, will be a huge help to Craig. He's never done this shit before & has his hands full. He's posting daily on the Welch Brothers board, so jump over there and see what you can do for him.
If you are truly a friend of Ron's, now's the time to step up.
Thanks!!!
-Ed
