How much music do you have on your hard drive?

How much music do you have on your hard drive?
I was screwing around this morning and it says I have close to 20GB / 9000 files.
I didn't realise I had that much in there.

BDx13 - 8-21-2007 at 09:20 AM

24,731 songs, 174.98 GB. i started re-ripping my cds as WAV files, so some are extra huge.

the one tremendous downside in using itunes is that i'll add something that was sent to me or i downloaded and then i'll forget about it. there is so much shit in there that i;'ve never even listened to. there;s also a lot of actual shit in there that i grabbed one place or another even if i thought it might be crap, just so i could know what i was talking about when i said it was crap.

Discipline - 8-21-2007 at 09:27 AM

I have about 9000 songs.

DAK - 8-21-2007 at 09:42 AM

0

I have about 3000 cd's and don't want to spend the time to rip them.

JawnDiablo - 8-21-2007 at 09:58 AM

Right now I am sifting through the MP3s and deleting the shit ones and relabeling ones with new titles that are more acurate and putting them in folders based on artist name.
It's going to take a while.

defstarsteve - 8-21-2007 at 10:22 AM

70 gigs and I have ripped msot of my cd collection...
I need to clean it up. delete half files get the volume leveling right and get the tags straight, but who has time for that

i keep all my music on a network drive that runs iTunes server, so any computer in my house running iTunes has access to the music. the drive has 2TB (roughly 2,000GB) of diskspace and is a RAID configuration, which means there are multiple copies of the files spread across the four disks in the drive. should one drive fail, the data is backed up across the others.

i also use this drive to back up all my work files which are on my computer.

the super nerdy part is that the network drive is backed up to one of my webservers for offsite backup. you know, in caset the house burns down or the drive is stolen or something.

ENDERA.x - 8-21-2007 at 12:31 PM

71.2 GB
28, 752 files

Jason the Magnificent - 8-21-2007 at 01:06 PM

Anyone have a easy way to equalize the volume on this stuff? I downloaded a program a while back but it kind of sucked.

BDx13 - 8-21-2007 at 01:07 PM

i tunes has a feature that will do it, but i've never used it.
i don't find that much of a difference.

Jason the Magnificent - 8-21-2007 at 01:09 PM

I have a ton of different levels of stuff, from big studio stuff to rare demos with volume all over the place. So when at the gym if I have the Ipod on random I go from not being able to hear one track to going deaf on the next and end up playing whole albums.

The itunes thing I THINK has to be done for each individual track. Theres no way in hell thats happening ever.

clevohardcore - 8-21-2007 at 01:36 PM

6325 songs
79.8 days of music
18.24 GB

and I still ahve to put the new MADBALL in. Its really good by the way.

copeyboy - 8-21-2007 at 01:40 PM

I've used Mp3 Gain to normalize the audio of my tracks and it's been pretty good.

MyOwnWay - 8-21-2007 at 02:01 PM

I'm not sure how to check the gigibytes.

But the hour total is: 48118:14

Six66Mike - 8-21-2007 at 02:33 PM

Currently:

Files: 47,059 Total Size: 192.15GB

How does this work? Can I just dump my whole mp3 folder in a normalize it or do I have to mess with individual tracks?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a winner!

holy shit!

BDx13 - 8-21-2007 at 04:20 PM

mikecore, what format/bit rate are you using?

Muttley - 8-21-2007 at 04:45 PM

I bought a 200 GB external drive just for my music, and I think it's 85% full. And I only have a little more than half of my physical CD collection on there.

Haha nice, where'd you get most of it? I've been going since around 98 but had a few years off when I first moved here & didn't have my PC.

IRC used to be a gold mine, tons of channels on a bunch of servers, loads of xdcc & fserves plus a bunch of FTP sites, had it so good.

I finally have a CD tower that holds up to 2000 CD's or combination of CD/DVD and new jewel cases just came. I plan on ripping every single one of my CD's as I put them into cases & stock them.

I recently re ripped all my CD's in MP3 HQ/VBR using EAC/ LAME 3.97. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing :D The physical size of my collection probably got smaller after I did the re-rip cause the newer LAME versions handle VBR compression much better then before.

Don't even get me started on movies :P

I plead the 5th :D

Six66Mike - 8-21-2007 at 06:31 PM

I rip mine now with the V0 extreme VBR LAME preset, good quality rips. I've got so many 128 I will update first then move to the 192 rips.

This is why I'm slowly updating :D I've downloaded a lot of replacements and I'm ripping the rest as I go through my CD's one by one. Ive gone through and put the bitrate of each album in the folder name to keep track of what I need replaced.

This is my command line option for LAME 3.97:

-V 0 --vbr-new

Sounds perfect with an ~256k bit rate and a perfect quality/size ratio

Six66Mike - 8-21-2007 at 10:21 PM

Yeah thats what I rip with now, filled many torrent requests by ripping with V0 preset.

No plans on getting into FLAC any time soon. Oversized, don't care about my music that much when I have high quality mp3, and Ipod 80GB currently don't support FLAC either.

Yeah I messed around with FLAC a couple years ago but didn't see any advantage over VBR MP3.

16.3 gig. All of my CD's are ripped. 99% are at 128. I just bumped my settings up on the advice from BD.

Do it. External HD prices have taken a big dive recently. The drive I bought 6 months ago is now practically half the price I fuckin paid for it. I may just sell my current one to upgrade since I'm slowly running out of room. Once I rip the other stuff I want to from my collection I'll definitely be out of room.

JawnDiablo - 8-22-2007 at 01:54 PM

I'm seriously considdering ripping most of my cds eventually. between mine and my girlfriend we have 1200 roughly. tha shits gonna take a while but it will be the ultimate jukebox on shuffle.....

JawnDiablo - 8-22-2007 at 01:55 PM

THE THORP BOARDS= PUTTING HARD THE HARD BACK INTO HARD DRIVES....
