rare Snapcase track and upcoming DVD

Snapcase has posted a rare track as well as sent out some updates on their long-awaited DVD which was first promised in January of 2005 shortly after the band split up in 2004. According to guitarist Frank Vicario:

The dvd is still in progress, we've actually been making a lot of headway in recent months so hopefully not too long now.

Snapcase is also featured in the upcoming Anti-Matter Compilation book and has a song on the soundtrack of Tony Hawk's Proving Ground.

I love this band. I don't care now and never did of what some people thought of this band. they were honest and ass kicking in a lets go to college and learn something sort of way. Always liked them. Will get this dvd.

Looking Glass Self or whatever was an awesome record. That last one with the video for MTV was bullshit though. Progression Through Unlearning was great too. I think I'll download em...

I liked some of their stuff, but I wouldn't go out of my way to check out anything new or buy the dvd.

Damn, I actually agree with you about a band. I think I'm in shock.

When bands like Snapcase started getting big and being touted as "the sound" as far as HC went, I started losing faith in people's ability to even recognize the good aspects of the genre at all. I had their first seven inch and was thoroughly unimpressed, but figured they might have potential. I saw them when I was living in Baltimore and thought they were one of the fruitiest bands I had ever seen.

They also happen to be one of those bands that explain why I steer clear of bands with names that make no sense. Occasionally a band with some stupid name will come along and disprove the theory, but much more often they end up sucking as bad as someone like Snapcase.

Throughout the years this band has had haters and they get it more than usual but they rock. The lyrics music and insite are top notch.

I had to defend my appreciation for this band to a buddy of mine who had Daryl(the singer) up against a wall and punching him. Daryl did not fight back and even said something about "If it makes him feel better". I defended the band who I don't even know simply because I relate and enjoy there music. Even when my best friend and best man in my wedding was jumping on the singer for being a smartass right after a show of theres. To make things more interesting BURIED ALIVE opened for SNAPCASE and Vogel just sat there and did nothing. Good show none the less, but SNAPCASE didn't have to be disrespected though. O and I might add it wasn't in a bog open area my friend pulled him aside down a alleyway.

Also the album after PROGRESSIONS was called DESIGN FOR AUTOMOTION. If you liked PROGRESSION you might want to go abck and check it again because it is continuation of PROGRESSIONS. After DESINGS FOR AUTOMOTION yes they really began to suck it bigtime.

I'm with ya on this one, they got me into hardcore & remained amazing. Steps, Lookingglassself, Progression, Designs...the band slayed. That Bright Flashes thing or whatever came after Designs was weak but everything before that was incredible.

ok, i just went back and listened to some snapcase and i think i know what my problem is. over time, i've come to not like bands with vocals like that, you know, kinda high pitched.

'progression' gets a pass though because 1) its more yelly than high pitched and 2) it's been in my head for for a decade. i will always like that record.

'lookinglass' is just so horribly recorded and mastered i can't even listen to it.

when did 'designs for automation' come out? sounds like some helmet/quicksand mashup.

Lookingglassself is still the best shit they wrote, in my opinion. We are talking about hardcore here though.... 99.9% of the real old school shit we all like is so horribly recorded and mixed it's sometimes hard to listen to, and yet we eat it the fuck up. I don't think, in this genre, that's a valid criticism at all.

DESIGN FOR AUTOMOTION was around 1999.

What I think happened with them was ego. Not a I want ot be the greatest band ever but a more we are really good and lets prove it to everyone and move mountains figuratively. Like a FUGAZI. However, were Ian McKaye had cred for beginning some shit Snapcase was a unified band representing a defunct but proud scene within a scene(the early 90's hardcore straight edge) Not the beginning but a rebirth that manifested into different but in some ways similar music.

They walked it and believed it and it was evident in the music, but when you are "too real" it may hurt you. I think that is what happened. They never gave into ANYTHING. They never wore the toughguy, metalhead, drugs, boose, extreme vegan, skaterock, etc. They just rocked with a positive message. Some of the most inspirational words I ever read come from SNAPCASE songs. Seriously. It may be pussy to say, but what the fuck ever. Snapcase were a true and real band. Many bands tried really fucking hard to copy this band. Not one could. They failed every time and it was evident they were attempting to rip them off.

I wonder if the VICTORY thing killed this band? I remember them saying in like ANTIMATTER back in 1994 that you can't amke a living making music like they do. They needed to continue with school when they did not tour. They are went on to get degrees. Daryl is in SOCIAL WORK or something. The band was a side thing. I think VICTORY may have worked them over and they were not the wiser. I don't know though. Whatever.

I'm still mystified that All Out War keeps releasing records with Victory. I'm not so surprised by Earth Crisis/Path of Resistance/Freya because they seem to be the only guys Brummel treats well... no wonder, either, they were his cash cow for a long long time.

Even if he's shit, the label still has a huge distro around the world and the music gets out there. Or maybe bands like All Out War are just stuck in one of those 5 album contracts and don't have the money to get out of it. If you can put up with his shit, being on a label that big with that much market exposure would be good.

True, but I think Brummel likes to throw around threats and shit. Plus, he actually likes AOW is my guess. Why the hell else would you even try to hold a band to a contract when they aren't even touring. It's the same with Path of Resistance man. It's almost like releasing their records is more of a favor because he wants to hear more from them.

Neither one of those bands can get very far on their already established fanbases and reputations. By not touring they aren't garnering anymore buyers of their records. I'd go so far as to say that Brummel's likely willing to take a hit on investing in making their records because he actually does like them.

^^^^^^^^^ PATH had a purpose. Everyone knew that would do well. that band became a legend in the scene. For good or bad but it had a demand. Now for AOW. VICTORY never really poured any money into them. they were always out of stock of the AOW cd's and they never really sold them to big distributors and retail stores ala BEST BUY or any chains. You never really find there records. Even the last AOW record wasn't hyped past the second week of the release unless you were added to their MYSPACE and got annoying messages from AOW.
Don't get me wrong they rock and I bought the cd but VICTORY sucks and that is it. AOW should find a new home and get what could be coming to them.

dave - anything put through the victory machine is guaranteed to sell a certain number of copies, regardless of touring or advertising or any of it. as far as the machine goes, it's not worth NOT putting out any release.
