Beastie Boys nominated for Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame

BDx13 - 9-28-2007 at 09:41 AM

Beastie Boys are among the nominees for the 2008 Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. They, along with Madonna, John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, Chic, the Ventures, Donna Summer and the Dave Clark Five on the ballot. Five of those will be inducted on March 10, 2008, at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Formed in 1979 as a hardcore/punk act which shared the stage with the likes of the Bad Brains, thee Dead Kennedys and Reagan Youth, the Beastie Boys went on to reinvent themselves as a rock-tinged hip hop act with Licensed to Ill in 1986 and released a number of classic, genre-bending records including Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, To the 5 Boroughs and most recently, The Mix-Up.

I would vote every single one of those acts. Esp the the Ventures. Whomever they are.

DeathByForce - 9-28-2007 at 01:33 PM

They were probably the most popular Surf Group ever.

joemaconmovies - 9-28-2007 at 09:18 PM

beastie boys already, eh? seems soon but i hope they get voted in.

DaveMoral - 9-28-2007 at 09:23 PM

Beastie Boys and Afrika Bambaataa definitely need in.

I'm not sold on the Beastie Boys getting in. Maybe it is too soon. I don't know.

it all depends on when the first album came out, right? if it's time for them to be let it i say let it happen. waiting a few more years won't change what they have done.

the beastie boys are easily one of the most deserving bands to be admitted, they cover all the basis

Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, the Ventures, Donna Summer and the Dave Clark Five as well

while I like madonna I don't think she is "rock and roll"
and John Mellencamp can suck it....

"According to the Chicago Tribune, the nominees for the March 2008 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame were announced yesterday (Thursday, September 27) and they are MADONNA, THE BEASTIE BOYS, JOHN MELLENCAMP, DONNA SUMMER, LEONARD COHEN, AFRIKA BAMBAATAA, THE DAVE CLARK FIVE, THE VENTURES and CHIC. Five will be chosen.

Not on this year's ballot is the band that the web site Future Rock Hall considered the heaviest favorite to be inducted in 2008: METALLICA. Other acts that were snubbed include RUSH, KISS, JETHRO TULL, STYX, YES, GENESIS/PETER GABRIEL and ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA."

Metallica (!!!!!!), KISS (!!!!!!!!!), Jethro Tull, etc get dissed but fuckin Afrika Bambaata and Donna fuckin Summer get in?!?!?! FUCKIN TERRORISM!!!!!

I'm starting a riot on my street.

^^^^^^^^ NO FUCKIN WAY. Mellancamp is one of the most prolific music writers of our time. Nevermind the "cougar" name. He is an outstanding writer/creator of music and one of the most heartfelt musicians we have today.

This is why that whole hall shit is fucking nonsense.

early madonna was great. she's a fucking joke. kiss shouldn't be let it. i don't see why they should. metallica will go in soon.

JawnDiablo - 9-29-2007 at 09:03 AM

Beastie Boys are gold.
Paul's Boutique is one of the coolest records of it's genre ever made.
You couldn't make a record like that these days without a team of lawyers.

Joe, I know you disagreed with me earlier about the Beastie Boys and time not changing anything. I think that applies to Metallica in my opinion. I also think KISS should be in. To me, they are almost the epitomy or RNR.

i don't think kiss has done anything to deserve being known as different. they just wore make up. big deal. they have catchy tunes but that's not enough to get in, in my opinion.

AAAANNNNNYYYYYWAY
yeah
the whole rock and roll hall of fame thing i find to be annoying
who is picked, by who, who is left out ect.

its like a bunch of "music" people deciding who is "important" enough to get in

i wish more bands would do what the sex pistols did and say they are not interested in this crap deciding who is relevant and who is not
