Speaking of iPods...the earbuds

Jason the Magnificent - 10-9-2007 at 01:18 PM

Does everyone use the included earbuds or is there something better out there? Looking on eBay theres about 50 choices, from expensive to cheap. The ones for my nano have about seen their day, wondering if anyone recommends somthing else before I grab another pair.

clevohardcore - 10-9-2007 at 01:39 PM

I never used the ones for 30 GB. In fac they are being packed up with the ipod. they are still wrapped in the plastic. I only use the ipod for the car and thats it.

I was plannign on grabbing a good set but I didn't want something big and bulky.

CR83 - 10-9-2007 at 01:57 PM

What are you looking to use them for? Will you be running? I have yet to find a good pair that stay in my ears longer then 20 minutes and then sweat rolls into my ears.

I just got an iPod Shuffle about 2 weeks ago. I have been using the buds. They have a thin rubber coating on them and seem to stay in pretty good. After 25 minutes or so, thye are soaking wet.

I did have a pair of Nike headphones that went behind my head that lasted a long time. They finally fell apart.

I like the new kind that go directly into your ear and are adjustable based on the little rubber tip you decided to use. The problem I have is that the wires are different sizes and get things fucked up when I jog.

XHonusWagnerX - 10-9-2007 at 02:02 PM

I used the earbuds, but I hate them. I think they sound like shit! I want to get a good pair of headphones even if they are overhead ones so I can walk and listen and actually enjoy what Im hearing.

Any suggestions for something in the mid price range?

Jason the Magnificent - 10-9-2007 at 02:25 PM

I mostly use them at the gym...so yes the earbuds are kind of inefficient..hard to keep in ear etc etc. Not sure I want the bulky headphone route either...but the ones that go way in the ear kind of freak me out. May end up being that the ear buds are the best bang for the buck, just seeing if you guys had experience with others.

I have a great behind the ear pair (that I use at work) that fits PERFECT...could wear them forever...but any other pair of those I buy always makes my ear sore from a bad fit after an hour.

Six66Mike - 10-9-2007 at 02:39 PM

I hate ear buds so I bought my own headphones that pump out great sound. I use Sennheiser HD 515's.

Skull candy are amazing, check em out. They are a little middy so drop the mids on your player and they are great..

Dave - 10-9-2007 at 03:07 PM

that is one major set of headphones you dont fuck around.

DAK - 10-9-2007 at 03:49 PM

I just bought a new pair of earbuds yesterday, because I hate the ones that came with the ipod. I bought Skullcandy Smokin Buds. Sound pretty good. They also have the volume in the cord, which is real handy.

$30.00

Jason the Magnificent - 10-9-2007 at 03:54 PM

yeah dak those look nice can you get them anywhere or do you need to order them...Mike I have a pair like that for at home, but I'll trip and kill myself on them at the gym.

DAK - 10-9-2007 at 04:32 PM

I bought them at Best Buy.

Jason the Magnificent - 10-11-2007 at 07:55 AM

I picked up a pair of those Tuesday night. They sound good but those little silicone ear pieces blow goats. If you do any kind of activity with these you can forget about them staying in your ear...especially at the gym...3 minutes of sweat and you're pushing them back in your ear every 10 seconds.

The search continues...

bombidol - 10-11-2007 at 09:14 AM

The skull candy ones come with different size sleeves so you can make em fit your ear better. FYE usually carry the whole range of Skull candy stuff, Tower too if you still have one.

Jason the Magnificent - 10-11-2007 at 09:38 AM

They fit my ears great. If I'm sitting down they sound good, fit snug and are very comfortable. The problem is because the sleeves are flexible any prolonged bouncing or movement makes them shift slightly. Now add any moisture...humidity...sweat whatever, the light bouncing and shifting becomes slipping and you're adjusting constantly.

clevohardcore - 10-11-2007 at 09:42 AM

I am with you on that. I think the only way is using the headphone like Mikes picture above. I have no idea how the people at my gym keep theres in the ears with the earbuds.

Jason the Magnificent - 10-11-2007 at 10:08 AM

The regular apple ones aren't bad if they fit your ear right. Sometimes they come slightly unseated but for the most part you have to catch the cord on something for them to come loose.

bombidol - 10-11-2007 at 10:29 AM

The audio codec in iPods is pretty shit so you need some good headphones alright. What about enclosed ones for the gym? or would they just get in the way. Or those ones with the strap around the back of the head?

XHonusWagnerX - 10-11-2007 at 10:48 AM

I just dont like the sound of the earbuds. I know that Im listening to MP3s which are not the best quality, but the earbuds sound SO tiny and if I use the bass boost then its all overdriven and theres a clicking when the bass kicks in.

JUICE MAYNE MSHC - 10-11-2007 at 11:29 AM

I have these:

They're expensive as shit but they're worth it for me because I use headphones all day every day. They have a subwoofer built in for really really good clean bass, the cable wraps around the back of your ear and will hold them in. The cable also disconnects from the actual earphone which is great because if the cable breaks you can just just replace it for a few bucks rather than having to buy an all new set of headphones. 1 year warranty even if you buy them from eBay.

Hmmmm I might have to try those. Are they available in stores where I could maybe try them?

Jason the Magnificent - 10-11-2007 at 01:58 PM

jesus, I'd hope not. why would you want to stick somthing in your ear that 500 other people already have.

I think they carry them at Guitar Center but I doubt you'd be able to try them on anywhere, probably for the exact same reason Jason said. There's a list of retailers somewhere on the website

Those stay on my head for running, they slide somewhat but my problem is sweat runs down them and they basically channel swear into my ears. Oh the horror!

XHonusWagnerX - 10-12-2007 at 11:05 AM

Im giving consideration to a $150 pair of the Ultimate Ears.

Make sure you get the EB's if you like bass. I tried the regular ones at first and they didn't have enough for me.
