SoCal Fire

Well the wind I was hating on this weekend sparked into one of the worst fires in Southern California in recent memory. There are raging wild fires from north of Los Angeles to all the way down in Mexico. San Diego has been hit bad though, over half a million evacuated including several friends/coworkers. One friend lost his trailer and motorcycle, which both exploded in a huge fireball because he had just bought three propane tanks and had a full tank of gas. The community support has been amazing though, they have actually had to turn down volunteers and supplies from the general population because of having too many.

the smoke wasn't so bad yesterday or sunday but today it's horrible
looks like it's going to rain but it's just smoke from the 2 fires surrounding our valley
we are too far in for it to get close to us, but I really feel sorry for the folks directly effected

but that is living in socal
it's either fires, earthquakes, flash flooding
just random chaos about once a year to shake off the people who were thinking about moving anyhow and to let the people rebuild and keep the economy here going for the regualr folk...

rich peoples shit burns down, hires broke ass construction crews, who eat at local resturants, everyone gets to pay the rent for another month...

but I do feel bad for those folks without insurance who will ask fema to help...

Shit's fucked up dudes. Glad I'm moving to the rainy northwest, where you rarely get small quakes and maybe in a few decades St Helen's will blow again.

Landslides will be next, from the loss of vegetation to keep the ground solid. They usually are worse as far as loss of life. We've been due for a major earthquake too, its been 13 years since the Northridge quake. That shit was insane, everything in the house was on the floor.

I'm glad that rescue operations are so much better than the catastrophe they were in New Orleans, but it pisses me off to see all this shit on the news where all the focus is being put on the "tragedy" of all these celebrities and mega-rich assholes losing their houses. I really don't give half a fart if some asshole who can replace his home and everything in it without batting an eye is hit by something like this. The only good part of that is that the working folk will get business in the manner Steve described and that the government aid is coming faster because of how all these so-called "important people" are being affected.

National news may be playing off these jerk offs stories but local news has been keepin it straight and avoiding these things. The worst part about it is that there are alot of service members stationed in San Diego and that have family here that are currently deployed.

I saw something about a Marine that had just gotten back from Iraq last week, now his house is burned to the ground. Sucks.
