clevohardcore - 10-30-2007 at 06:49 PM

I want to check that out as well. I used ot think Lydon was a something special, then I realised he was just a cranky man. Still is cool in my book though.

XHonusWagnerX - 10-31-2007 at 09:20 AM

I missed it last night. If anyone finds it on Youtube can you post up the link?

gavin - 10-31-2007 at 09:49 AM

it will be on the nbc web site later today
i fell asleep too

clevohardcore - 10-31-2007 at 10:56 AM

It was really fucking sad. I laughed. He dissed a Republican senator from Texas while they played ANARCHY, but then Jay Leno and the Senator came out to thank the band. Lydon shook both Jays and the Senators hands. It was all smoke and mirrors. Lydon is hiding his being fat with frillyclothes. The only good thing I saw was with the new change to the song Anarchy is its more heavy/ up to date and he is adding a little more of the PIL strung out vocal to the song.

Song = good.
Band= bad.

gavin - 10-31-2007 at 11:04 AM

dude he's 50 years old
and he is honestly one of the only true guys from that era
read his book
watch some of the stuff he's done on youtube
he's made alot of money of the years but still has the working class mentality that he was raised with
im telling you
seeing the pistols was one of the best shows i ever saw
way more "hardcore" than any of the crap coming out today
i could go on and on but i wont at this time

gavin - 10-31-2007 at 11:05 AM

its kinda the same thing people say about H.R.
"he isnt what he was in '82"
well no shit
he's fuckin 50 yuears old too
be glad these dudes are still doing it
or else there would be nothing worth listening to

well said!!

gavin - 10-31-2007 at 11:53 AM

the thing is we are kinda the first generation to see any of these people age
the fact that any of them are still doing anything is worth something in my book
rotten and the rest of the pistols certainly dont need the money that they may be making off of doig any shows
rotten is a multi millionare through his real estate co.
the 2002 tour they did they financed themselves and made no real money to speak of from it
they and i imagine others in such a position do it for the love of doing it
something has to be said for that

DeathByForce - 10-31-2007 at 12:47 PM

i never liked the pistols, didn't think they were much of anything.

they still mean nothing to me.

clevohardcore - 10-31-2007 at 12:58 PM

I understand. People change, but the image they want to convey is from back then. If they change then change. Don't rehash something simply to carry the image. BE graceful. I like the fact they are still doing it, but it hardly reads they are doing it simply because it awsome to them. It reads more like a desperate attemp to make some cheese. I am sure they ahve some cash but why do something if you don't have to. Rocking out an selling a song for a video game is not about anti-establishment/punk/rebelious/whatever in the very least. Its about the money and they is no shame in it unless you disguise it as something its not.

I like me some SEX PISTOLS and always have. I love most PIL as well. I would like to read all that Lydon has published. I love hearing of all his rants and raves against anything back in the day. His interviews are awsome. This set on JAY Leno was not.

Barnesey - 10-31-2007 at 03:08 PM

Clevo, I haven't seen the video but was he referring to Ron Paul? At least Ron Paul has integrity which cannot be said for Lydon. Anyways, I love the Sex Pistols but I cannot even think about watching Johnny after the atrocity of a reality TV show I saw him on. It's some Bodog Battle Of the Bands type shit that I ran across on Fuse TV I think. Johnny was talking up some Screamo, lip ring & eyeliner wearing all out douchebag band like they were the 2nd coming of the Sex Pistols. I thought I was in a dream.

Dude...nothing to listen to??? Theres so many good HC bands over the past 10 years alone its surreal. I understand you don't like anything with even the hint of metal...but theres a ton of bands playing old style 80-86 HC that you seem to crave. It's obvious you have some major hangups about the current "hc" scene...which is understandable, but that's no excuse to write everything off either. I also understand the genre is spread so thin that its near impossible to find things worth listening to...but it is out there I constantly find new bands worth listening to and I certainly don't spend excess amounts of time searching them out

While I'm sure they're not living in the lap of luxury Sex Pistols 2007 are not working class and they're not punk.

I don't care what Lydon wrote in any book, it doesn't change the fact that they're a lounge act of retired retro rockers trying to cash in on their name and one album from 30 years ago. He's no better than any of the society suckers he mocks at this point. They are the fucking system. They reunited to play a song for guitar hero and figured there was more money to be made.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not hating on them for playing shows or making money...but them having anything to do with punk rock at this point is laughable. Hot Topic is more punk rock than the Sex Pistols.

gavin - 10-31-2007 at 04:21 PM

i could go on and on about this but i will not
youz can think what you will
im not going to argue the point
and i have some "major hangups" about the current hardcore scene because it is fucking lame
i too find tons of new bands to listen to
i was making a point more than anything else
99% of what is called "hardcore" these days is lame and bad metal but we have been through this time and time again and i dont wanna do it again

carry on youz

I agree on the 99% whole heartedly and hardcore as a scene is a joke for good and bad bands alike...but on a strictly music scale...a good 1% leftover of 10000 shit HC bands is still still 100 good HC bands and that's not "nothing to listen to."

gavin - 10-31-2007 at 05:16 PM

yeah right on
i agree with ya
again, i was being sarcastic making a point

Discipline - 10-31-2007 at 05:25 PM

One thing I like about the Pistols is that when they go out on these tours they freely admit it's for the money. They got almost nothing back in the day because McLaren got most of the loot. I say more power to them if they can make some money off their music, enough other people have over the years.

Also, Lydon rules. Nuff said.
