I never thought I would say this, but...

I think I've out grown "Chugga Chugga" Hardcore. After listening to the stuff I recently bought and some other stuff that I used to really love I think Im out of that phase in my musical life.

I think at this point I prefer what I guess would be considered "old school" hardcore or hardcore with a big street punk influence and lots of sing-a-longs.

*sigh... I hope I can still "stay young untill I die"

I'm the same way. There's bands like Skarhead that I loved 10 years ago but can't really stand these days.

At this point I listen to old school hardcore. In terms of newer bands I stick mostly with oi/streetpunk stuff and bands like The Generators who emphasise the rock part of "punk rock."

Me personally, I like more metallic hardcore, I like it hard. If there will be one genre I get sick of it's youth crew, 88 style. Shit gets too reptetive.

I guess it's because I'm younger and got into metal before hardcore or punk.

I love me some Youth Crew crap! Its just funny!

I actually was into Metal before hardcore, as most people were (I think?) and Im not a huge fan of a lot of metalic hardcore as a whole.

I probably should have been more specific. I was just using Skarhead as an example of a band I used to love but don't like anymore. Definitely not a chugga chugga band, a style I've never been a big fan of. I listened to metal before I got into hardcore and punk, but metallic hardcore is a style I've never been a fan, other than the odd band here and there.

I still find it odd when I hear people say they got into Metal before HC or Punk, to me it was always Punks and HC kids against the Metalheads with very few exceptions. When I was in High School one of my best friends was a Metalhead and that was looked upon as bizarre by both of our other sets of friends.

Of course, nowadays what passes for Metal and HC are pretty much the same thing, but that's another topic altogether.

I started listening to metal when I was about 7 or 8. I was heavy into AC/DC, Priest, Maiden, etc. Later I got into thrash and death metal and whatnot. I didn't start listening to punk until I was about 13 or 14, but I had never been exposed to it before then. After that I got more and more into punk/hardcore/oi. I still like some older metal bands like Motorhead and Slayer and the like, but I don't listen to any newer bands. I just started with metal, but grew into punk because it still had the intensity I was into, but was much better in a lyrical sense. It's one of the reasons I'm still into the music. Punk has some of the best lyrics for me because I can relate to a lot of what I hear, which I can't do with metal.

Of course, in the end punk won out for me because metal has nobody as insanely awesome as the Dayglo Abortions. :tumble:
