XHonusWagnerX - 12-1-2007 at 11:24 PM

There was an awesome cover of the Spice Girls song (tell me what you want, what you really really want) by a band called OI-ZONE I think. Thats was pretty funny... but its not about Skinheads at all so I dont know why I brought it up. sorry.

Dave - 12-1-2007 at 11:24 PM

i know i'm going to get ripped for this, but.......there are probably more good reggae skinhead songs than oi ones...........

I agree, entirely.

I grew out of most of the Oi I listened to. Most British Oi is so boring.

upyerbum - 12-3-2007 at 09:45 PM

Cloughy is a BootBoy!! - The Toy Dolls

upyerbum - 12-3-2007 at 09:46 PM

JawnDiablo - 12-3-2007 at 11:16 PM

upyerbum - 12-4-2007 at 09:05 AM

Since its a little close to the "day", why don't we shoot for a Valentine's Day swap, we could certainly have some fun with that.

see i think the opposite
i think 90% of american oi is boring as shit
but english oi is one of the only things i wanna listen to anymore and im 35 and never "grew out of it"
if anything, i embrace it more so than ever before
sure can relate alot better than some "hardcore" band playing bad metal

DeathByForce - 12-4-2007 at 11:05 AM

I think the Blood, The Ejected and the 4-Skins were the only bands I liked.

I'd say Cock Sparrer but they're not really an Oi band.

I'm really into the whole NL/Swedish Oi sound. It kills british Oi.

dude what about...........
the business
blitz
combat 84
skrewdriver
last resort
cockney rejects

i mean, that stuff is like the def. of oi

upyerbum - 12-4-2007 at 12:35 PM

Infa-Riot - Each Dawn I Die

Oi! is British. Its kinda' like Champagne.

it just seems more legit coming out of england to me

Discipline - 12-4-2007 at 12:43 PM

I'll never get tired of British oi! Still one of my all-time favorite genres.

Well, i've had this conversation on numerous accounts.

They're a pub rock band. They don't have the typical oi sound really. Listen to The business or Cockney Rejects and then listen to Cock Sparrer.

They draw more from direct 77 influences. Less on the whole Sham 69 street punk thing.

It's where it started but I don't think it's relevant really.
Most of that stuff is topically boring and even a lot of the music is boring.

Blitz only put out one decent album.

The Business are hit and miss.

I dig Skrewdriver but there's so many elements to that band that it's hard to simply call them an Oi band. Especially cause their first releases were '77 style punk.

upyerbum - 12-4-2007 at 03:17 PM

Oi! isn't a sound. The reason a lot of the bands sounded the same is cuz they all sucked. Listen to any early stuff of any Oi! band and its generally terrible compared to later releases, just cuz CockSparrer were good doesn't make them any less of an Oi! band, and they did appear on the very first Oi! compilation, along with The Exploited I might add, who I also consider an Oi! band. Confused yet? :freak:

DeathByForce - 12-4-2007 at 03:24 PM

haha, well it's mostly opinion I guess. That's just mine.

I would've never considered the Exploited an Oi band ;)

upyerbum - 12-5-2007 at 08:18 AM

I guess the question is, did Oi! start when Gary Bushell coined the term? Pub rock and Oi! were almost interchangeable at the time.

Not really, two different things. I would hardly lump in EDDIE & THE HOT RODS, 101'ERS, LITTLE BOB STORY, ETC with SHAM 69, COCKNEY REJECTS, 4 SKINS, ETC. But the Exploited were definitely considered an Oi band in the very beginnings of the band. I think COCK SPARRER were more influenced by Glam Rock. It's pretty obvious on their early promo clip of "We Love You".....Most Skinheads from that era couldn't even tell you what "Pub Rock" is and if they do, they turn their nose up at the term. Does any of this matter? No, but COCK SPARRER is/are one of the best Oi bands hands down.

upyerbum - 12-6-2007 at 09:54 AM

Would have been great to have been in London in the late 70's, there was so much going on musically. And it doesn't really matter but its still fun to talk about.
