Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

I go in for gastric bypass surgery this tuesday.

XnMeX - 12-9-2007 at 03:03 AM

I have been going thru the steps for it since April of this year and the surgery date is finally here.

My father died at the age of 44 of health / weight problems and I don't want to die that early.

I was 444lbs in April and have lost 38lbs upto this point before surgery. I can't wait to be more active and able to do activities for longer. I just feel this is gonna open up alot of new things for me.

Just thought I would let you Thorpers know whats up because I know you guys are cool here about serious stuff as well as scat porn ;) (had to end it on a funny note).

Voodoobillyman - 12-9-2007 at 03:05 AM

Good luck bro, I wish nothing but the best for you from this :)

morgan - 12-9-2007 at 03:11 AM

Good luck to you on this.

tireironsaint - 12-9-2007 at 06:09 AM

Best of luck, keep us posted on how it goes.

newbreedbrian - 12-9-2007 at 09:30 AM

ditto, good luck man. i hope everything goes really well with it.

clevohardcore - 12-9-2007 at 09:50 AM

Ya bro. Best of luck. Will you be MIA for a while from Thorp?

Lucabrasi - 12-9-2007 at 09:59 AM

a positive step in the right direction. Cant go wrong with that. All the best dude.

JawnDiablo - 12-9-2007 at 10:04 AM

Good luck holmes
2 people at my job have both had that or something similar done and have had really positive results. They're half the size they once were.

XHonusWagnerX - 12-9-2007 at 10:12 AM

Definitly a good thing for you to be doing. I hope it works out even better than expected. Just be sure to follow all the 'rules' and guidelines when you get out of surgery. I know someone who had it and its a great way to lose weight and be healthy but its still a lot of work. Take care!!

defstarsteve - 12-9-2007 at 12:25 PM

good luck bro....
my mom is having this done the begining of next year.
I hope it all goes well for you

DaveMoral - 12-9-2007 at 01:42 PM

Wow dude. Good luck. I'm sure it'll improve your life in so many ways. I've only ever heard anything positive about the procedure.

Jason the Magnificent - 12-9-2007 at 02:13 PM

Good luck.

Discipline - 12-9-2007 at 04:46 PM

Let us know you've come through okay when it's all said and done.

Dave - 12-9-2007 at 05:42 PM

good luck, don't forget to keep us updated.

Spoiler - 12-9-2007 at 05:55 PM

I wish you the best bro....good luck......we're sending some Thorpster mojo your way

get someone to keep us updated while your away from your computer

DAK - 12-9-2007 at 07:32 PM

Good luck. My dad had this done a couple years ago and lost over 100 lbs.

XnMeX - 12-9-2007 at 07:58 PM

Thanks for the kind words. I'll probably be away for a week or 2 from the boards. I'll see if my fiance can post with a heads up.

Also, Honus. Lori (my fiance) will obviously post how I am doing on her myspace so if she does'nt hit up the Thorp, please repost it on here.

I am sure I won't be away too long. Hospital stay is 3-4 days... Maybe they have wifi ;)

Also, just letting you all know that this "sXe kid" will be taking all the drugs they throw at me.

Uh Oh.... EDGE BREAK = FACE BREAK! ;)

Ill definitly post up any info that Lori puts up on Myspace.

Definitly take care!!

BDx13 - 12-10-2007 at 01:44 AM

woah, this is wild.
follow the doctors instructions and take of your self.

after the bypass has been put in place, are there any restrictions on physical activity?
how long does the bypass stay in place?

XnMeX - 12-10-2007 at 07:44 AM

It's permanent. As seen abov e, they cut your stomach pouch down to the size of an egg and lead the intestine straight up to the new, much smaller stomach.

What this does is:

1) make it so you can eat VERY little in one sitting.
2) makes the intestine smaller so it absorbes less of the fats, callories, etc.

It will take about 3-4 days in the hospital and 4-6 weeks to recover.

After everything is healed up there are no physicaly restrictions at all. Only food restrictions, mostly sugars.

Sugars and some other foods (vary person to person) will cause "dumpping syndrome" shich makes you feel like shit, possibly puke, diharea, etc. I am told this "restriction" goes away after 2 years or so.

BDx13 - 12-10-2007 at 07:48 AM

interesting. i always thought it was a temporary procedure.

RomanticViolence - 12-10-2007 at 08:54 AM

good luck sweetie!

CR83 - 12-10-2007 at 11:22 AM

Man, PLEASE take care. I wish you nothing but the very best with this. It will be tough but you can do it.

XHonusWagnerX - 12-10-2007 at 08:39 PM

Looks simple enough... tell the doctors to give me a call if they have any problems. I can cut on the dotted line!

Spoiler - 12-10-2007 at 08:44 PM

and can you have that cat done while your there ? the one in your avy :tumble:

XnMeX - 12-11-2007 at 10:45 PM

Monty's Gastric Bypass surgery went very smooth today. He was in the OR for roughly 4 hours. It took him 2 hours to recover then another 1 hr to get into his own (private) room. Yea, he's in a little pain but it's under control b/c he has control of his Morphene drip :-D

He should be in the hospital until Thursday or Friday, granted no complications should arise. Tonite around 7:30pm, he took his first steps post-operation and did well. He got out of his bed, stood up & sat in a chair. For such a major surgery, this is a great step towards recovery despite how miniscule that sounds. He cannot wait to take his first sips of water tomorrow after he takes a test to make sure his new stomach doesn't have any leaks. If that test shows he's alright, then it's water & sugar-free ice-pops for a few days.

I'll be working only 4-hours a day & then spending the rest of my day at the hospital with Monty.

If you want to pass along a message to Monty, just message me and I'll print it out & bring it to him when I go see him!

Monty actually asked me to smuggle Luda (our kitty) into the hospital tomorrow... I think it would be a lil too hard to hide a 21lb cat under my shirt... :saint:

DAK - 12-11-2007 at 10:48 PM

Thanks for the update.

newbreedbrian - 12-11-2007 at 11:41 PM

thanks for taking the time to let us know how he's doing, much appreciated. as weird as it sounds, we're a tight little family here and i know everyone on the thorp is pulling for him. please say hello for us

XnMeX - 12-12-2007 at 07:59 AM

Yea, Monty explained how it is on the board & I think that's awesome.

He called me at 6am this morning & sounded great. He'll be having a "leak test" this morning to make sure his new stomach doesn't leak... if all is well, he's gonna get to have some water & sugar-free ice pops!

Now I just gotta figure out how to smuggle a 21lb cat into a hospital.... :ninja:

Spoiler - 12-12-2007 at 08:38 AM

good to hear he's doing well and the surgery went smooth....I wish Monty the best.

upyerbum - 12-12-2007 at 09:19 AM

Good Stuff! Thanks so much for taking the time to keep us in the loop, we're all pulling for him.

Good to hear things went well.

BDx13 - 12-12-2007 at 12:35 PM

awesome. glad to hear everything went smoothly. while i'm sure it's very serious, the idea of a 'leak test' is kinda hilarious.

thanks for taking the time to deliver the update, lori, we really do appreciate it.

Voodoobillyman - 12-12-2007 at 03:02 PM

Just tell the hospital staff if you get caught the cat would help his recovery along and then punch the first person to challenge you.

His BFB hoodie is sooooo waaaaarm!

Monty may be coming home tomorrow afternoon. He's up & walking down the hallways in his oh-so-revealing hospital gown. I'm pretty sure he's been flashing the old ladies on the floor, too.

He got to eat Jell-O, chicken broth & Carnation Instant Breakfast this afternoon/evening! And he kept it all down with NO vomiting (which is common for gastric bypass patients to do at first).

He no longer has unlimited access to his best friend, the Morphene button. But if he's in pain, he gets liquid pain-killers instead of thru the IV.

Everything has gone perfect according to his surgeon, so he'll be home soon!

DaveMoral - 12-13-2007 at 10:37 PM

Awesome. Glad to hear all is well. Congrats Monty!

XHonusWagnerX - 12-15-2007 at 12:38 PM

Im actually afraid to see a skinny Monty. Ive known him for to long at the size he is. Its gonna be awesome... but weird! :bouncy:

clevohardcore - 12-15-2007 at 11:18 PM

this is all good news. Can't wait to hear from him how it was. It must ahve been very nervous for him.

beaner - 12-16-2007 at 02:20 PM

hope it goes wel for ya. stand tall fella

XnMeX - 12-16-2007 at 06:11 PM

Monty's sitting right next to me on the couch, enjoying Revenge of the Nerds II. He's comfortably drugged-up, fed (Carnation Instant Breakfast) and gotten the hospital-smell off him w/ a shower.

Photos of his surgery wounds are posted up on his MySpace!

XnMeX - 12-17-2007 at 08:47 AM

Finally got up the energy to get on the computer myself. The past few days of being home I have wanted to do nothing but rest. Thanks for all the kind words. Everything is going great. The surgery seemed like a blink in time, the recovery.... not soo much. lol

My wounds are healing nicely but the muscle pain is a bitch since they had to cut thru my stomach muscles. Never realized how much I used they till they were cut.

CR83 - 12-17-2007 at 11:30 AM

Just take care (formerly) Big Guy.

Voodoobillyman - 12-17-2007 at 12:02 PM

Great news, the pain will pass and you will be a much healthier happier person for it, good on you man!

newbreedbrian - 12-17-2007 at 12:06 PM

i'm sure the worst is over now man, only gets better from here.

upyerbum - 12-17-2007 at 12:26 PM

No matter how good you start feeling, follow all the post-op instructions. My wife had some major surgery back in Sept. and I had to practically tie her down to keep her from doing housework and shit. Take the time you need to fully recover, and enjoy the laying around on your skinny ass.

clevohardcore - 12-17-2007 at 12:47 PM

Best of luck.

Yeah, I hear that. I haven't been doing much of anything. I needed a break from work so it's great timing.

As for skinny ass.... not yet, but i'll get there ;)

Spoiler - 12-18-2007 at 04:10 PM

Siczine.com - 12-18-2007 at 11:45 PM

Yeah, like what has already been said. Glad to hear you are doing well!

XnMeX - 12-20-2007 at 11:20 AM

Reached my first exciting weight.....

I am now in the "300 lb" weight range and no longer in the "400's"

My heaviest weight = 456
My when I started the pre requiments for surgery (april 07) my weight = 444
My weight the day of surgery = 405

My urrent weight (one week and 2 days post op) = 388

388!

I don't remember the last time I was below 400. Feels fucking great mentally to know that I am under 400lbs. Even if I weighed today and was 399 I would be excited because the difference between 400 and 399 is 1 pound, but mentally..... come on now!

Good shit man, good shit!
