JawnDiablo - 12-15-2007 at 01:37 PM

any of you see it?

Jason the Magnificent - 12-15-2007 at 01:53 PM

yes. decent...(not as good as the book, what ever is) but wait for video unless you want to see the batman trailer or batman prologue.

Dave - 12-15-2007 at 10:22 PM

i'll go see this one over x-mas at some point.

DaveMoral - 12-15-2007 at 10:40 PM

MMM Batman trailer...

XHonusWagnerX - 12-15-2007 at 11:04 PM

is it the same Batman trailer that was posted on the board?

Jason the Magnificent - 12-16-2007 at 09:13 AM

In regular theatres its the Batman preview that was online, in IMAX its the first 6 minutes of the movie that they're calling "The Dark Knight Prologue"

XHonusWagnerX - 12-18-2007 at 09:50 PM

I heard on the radio this mornign that the whole movie was on YouTube cut up into 6 minute pieces.

Siczine.com - 12-18-2007 at 11:44 PM

I just love how in the book it is supposed to be a German/English dude or something and yet its Will Smith haha.

Regardless, I want to see this movie.

XnMeX - 12-22-2007 at 09:19 PM

I thought it was excelent. VERY sad at one part. Action packed right from the get go and VERY well done. It looks like they shut down NYC, made it look like hell, and filmed there. The cityscape is flawless.

clevohardcore - 12-23-2007 at 01:06 AM

Just got back. WOW. That movie was kick fucking ass. GO SEE THIS!

XnMeX - 12-23-2007 at 10:43 AM

Me and the fiance were thinking of going to see either this, no country for old men, juno, or walk hard. We figured out of all those movies, this one would be the one that would benifit from the theatre experience. Deffinetly did! We went with my mom as a little christmas type outing and she kept jumping out of her seat. was pretty funny.

clevohardcore - 12-23-2007 at 11:58 AM

NO Country is a great movie as well but you are right. Legend was a awsome Theater type movie.

MikeCore - 12-23-2007 at 03:42 PM

Watching the I am Legend DVD screener with the wife tonight. Hope to get No Country for Old Men and Charlie Wilson's War soon 8)

tireironsaint - 12-27-2007 at 12:26 AM

If I had never read the book I might possibly have thought this was halfway decent. Knowing what the story is actually supposed to be and how great this could have been makes me give this a huge thumbs down. They butchered it top to bottom. Prime example of how brilliant stories get dumbed down for mass market appeal in the process of making them into movies in hollywood.

I find this happens with 99% of book to movie adaptations. I'm really interested in this one, and for once I haven't read the book first, so I'm going to see this before I read the book. I hate Will Smith but I've heard a lot of good things about the movie.

tireironsaint - 12-27-2007 at 01:48 AM

If you hate Will Smith for the corny hero roles he always plays, you'll hate him here too. That's part of what bothers me about this movie so much. The main character is supposed to be an "everyman" type who finds himself in this fucked up situation and they've made him over into a superscientist/military hero guy which helps greatly to completely destroy the brilliant story that they've raped with this movie.
Can you tell that the longer I have to let it soak in, the angrier I'm getting about it? Honestly, it's pissing me off more and more as I think of more ways that they changed it to market it. Everything that is so great about the story is ripped out and then pretty much everything else is changed substantially. I don't wanna say more because I know that people reading this are still planning to go see this atrocity, but I really wanna discuss it at some point.

Voodoobillyman - 12-27-2007 at 02:39 AM

I wanted to see this, aqnd probably still will for the Patton aspect alone. But I loved this story and I value Saints opinion mucho, so if he says this is a watered down Hollywood version which betrays the real story, I have lost ALOT of interest in it. I also can't stand Will Smith and his films, i don't think I have seen one I really enjoyed with the exception of pursuit of Happiness. This is obviously not a jab at anyone who enjoyed this film, I have not even seen it yet, I was just hoping they would stick to the story fairly strictly and it seems they have not.

Jason the Magnificent - 12-27-2007 at 11:05 AM

It's a renter thats about it Id doubly agree with saint on all points, I'll restate...the best thing about this movie is the batman trailer.

Anyone have dibs on what Will Smith will save the human race from in his next movie?

MyOwnWay - 12-27-2007 at 12:33 PM

Love Will Smith. Loved this movie.

Never read the book.

crazyfists28 - 1-17-2008 at 11:43 AM

i finally saw this last night and have to disagree with those of you that are ripping it for getting changed to fit the big screen. to me, they updated the story enough to be understandable in our times. the story is what, like 60 years old? they gave it a cool setting (nyc), they updated the scientist's lab by putting it right in his home, and they made a movie out of a story that is for the most part, one man all alone. that takes some creativity to make dialogue for him and to keep it from grinding to a hault when he's doing his daily chores. my biggest complaint was making the infected super human, they shouldn't be able to climb buildings and stuff like that. i understand that they changed some other stuff about killing the infected during the day, and the ending itself wasn't great, but all-in-all, i'd say they did a decent job making a hollywood version of this. it's better than no movie at all. will smith has finally toned his acting down enough to where he is semi-believable on screen.

bombidol - 1-17-2008 at 11:54 AM

Movie was ok for the first half then crap the last half. book was amazing from start to finish.

JawnDiablo - 1-17-2008 at 12:12 PM

I also saw it the other night.
I was pleasantly surprised.
I liked it a bunch.
Will smith was good.
the way NYC looked was awesome

MikeCore - 1-17-2008 at 01:13 PM

The DVD was OK. Not as good as I hoped it would be. Charlie Wilson's War and No Country for Old Men DVD's where pretty good.

mattybar - 1-17-2008 at 01:27 PM

i watched this yesterday.
it alright, nothing too incredible.

just kinda reminded me of 28 Days Later but set in NY.

Jason the Magnificent - 1-17-2008 at 01:56 PM

I'm not sure the age of the story has much to do with anything. It wasn't a dated story. An epidemic where everyone turns into vampries hasn't really happened yet...they didnt change the premise, they changed the plot.

How do you get screeners?

tireironsaint - 1-17-2008 at 06:40 PM

The book is pretty standardly regarded as being timeless. There's a couple tiny things in it that might remind you of how long ago it was written if you're paying strict attention to every detail, but certainly not to the point where it's in need of revision to make it read as current. If you were to go through and change about five lines in the entire book it would read as 100% up to date. Not to mention the fact that it's a vastly superior story to that sub-par turd of a movie that rips off a ridiculous amount of recent movies which were probably influenced by the original story anyway. None of the "updates" they made make any sense anyways. Why change the character? It takes away from the appeal of it someone we can all relate to by making him into this caricature of a military hero/genius scientist guy. Why put the lab in his home? That's fuckin' ridiculous and it removes that aspect of the story where he has to race to get back home before dark after working at the lab all day. What's with the bullshit happy ending? They completely removed a huge part of the story by making the people that came to find him normal people looking for survivors and especially by finding a whole walled in city full of them. The only purposes served by making those changes was to dumb it down and make it more palatable for the mass movie audience and to provide a handy platter for all that advertising in the form of product placement.
I admit, I did like the way they showed the city being overrun by nature, although the lions roaming free were a bit over the top. Anyway, they did a good job on making New York look like it had been suddenly emptied of human life, but that was pretty much the only thing I thought was really cool about this turd.

Magically :tumble:

crazyfists28 - 1-18-2008 at 09:08 AM

i had no problem with them putting the lab in his house. it showed how vital he was to finding a cure. it was his project and this allowed him instant access to his work. i find it more believable that a scientist like this could find a cure over a regular man reading up on it in the library. they still made you aware that he had to be in by day's end in order to avoid the infected. the movie didn't make him an everyday guy, but did a decent job of showing a family side to him. i'm not saying this is a masterpiece, but, for a popcorn movie it was pretty good. i wasn't a huge fan of the story like most of you are, but wanted to see how they would work with it nowadays, where all remakes are torn to shreds just to make a buck. i wasn't surprised that it was different, and i didn't care... it's just a movie. most of the people that saw this probably didn't ever read the story.

XnMeX - 1-22-2008 at 07:55 AM

I just listened to the audio book of this yesterday at work and wow..... what a difference! ALL the main points in the movie are different from the book so I can see whay those who read the book first are pissed. Down to the main character, importance of the dog in the film, what happened to his family members, the woman he encounters, the 2 factions of "evil", and the over the top hollywood ending which has zero to do with the book. I enjoyed the movie alot and the book alot. Listenening to the book after seeing the movie was like listening to a directors cut that was WAY different. Still can't believe just HOW much was changed. I would say the movie is loosly based off the book at best.

Jason the Magnificent - 1-22-2008 at 09:37 AM

The dog was the biggest change...his slow nuturing of it really demonstrated his isolation better than him yelling at mannequins.

JawnDiablo - 1-22-2008 at 11:12 AM

I just watched the film...liked it......
However, I also purchased the book off of Amazon and plan to read it. The one shipped to me has Will Smith and the dog on the cover and is pretty long. Have they changed the book at all over the years, like revised or added to it? Somebody told me the original version was pretty short. I wanted a basic copy of the original, and am hoping the one I got isn't just the new movie on paper......because if so I'm going to scrap that copy and go for the real thing...help me out dudes....

Jason the Magnificent - 1-22-2008 at 11:40 AM

Even the old copies are longer, it's not all I Am Legend...but years back they tacked on 3 or 4 other short stories to the end, check the contents, I'm sure thats all it is. I Am Legend is under 200 pages I think, the whole book is probably 300ish?
