My company staffed a majority of MediaCart's IT staff in Dallas. They had some financial trouble and I don't know the outcome. It is a very cool company and very cool idea behind Mediacart. I'm sure this will be the way all grocery stores go in the not too distant future.

There is such a thing as too much technology, as well as misuse of technology. Just what I want, advertising staring me in the face as I grocery shop, as if I'm not pissed off enough in the first place because I'm grocery shopping. How about a shopping cart mounted, low-yield taser to zap that ignorant fucker who thinks its okay to carry on a conversation with his cart pulled across the whole fucking aisle. There's some technology I could get behind.

sounds like a lot of this stuff is going to eventually be unavoidable in the not so distant future...

How do you guys feel about the store cards that track your purchaes, but give you coupons on stuff you use? I wouldnt bother if thats all they did, but at most stores it seems like they have sales, but the only way to get the sale price is to use the card.

they have been tracking your purchases for years...
that is if you use any sort of credit card...

and if you use store discount cards it's even worse...
I like the idea of the cart scanning the shit I put in the the basket
that way I don't have to deal with an idiot at the end, jsut push my cart to the exit and give them my card...

the only product that america still knows how to make is advertising

This is no big deal, it's just more convenience in the land that coined the term. The tracking of your purchases does exist to an extent, but if you think they have someone assigned to "your purchases" watching everything you buy to profile you or something, like I said, lay off the dope. Here are my issues (and I seem to like numbering these things for some odd reason)...

(1) Please dear god no more ads in the grocery store.

(2) I hate that my purchases are tracked at the grocery store, but it's the only way to get the sale prices. But I don't buy anything at the store that matters (unless insurance companies can one day access this to see what your diet looks like... but hey, when computers analyze mounds of data in mere seconds, why would they ever do this?).

(3) Walmart collects mounds of data and prices as a result. Did you know that the two of the most popular items when a hurricane is coming are poptarts and beer? Well, neither did I, until Walmart told us (and they were equally amazed).

(4) RFID tracking devices on prisoners or on people on house arrest? No problem. Surgically implanted? How does that not creep the shit out of you? Just fix the fucking ankle bracelet so it can't be removed... hell, anything but implants. Cause the next thing is the black market in surgically-removing the implants. And permanent RFID is scary as fuck. I'm not a conspiracy nut, but you don't have to be to realize that shit would be abused immediately.

Its not so much the intent of the people that are developing the technology as the use it could be put too. Eternal vigilance, or have you you guys pretty much given up on the whole justice and liberty for all thing? It was gettin' kind of old anyway.
