Hey, this is my first post. I was searching the web for that Krakdown 87 demo and came across this board. THANKS for that post of downloads, I've been looking for some of that stuff for years! I had no idea there was a Krakdown 88 demo, but I just listened to it and it's killer. And that Damage demo is great. I used to hear a song on Pat Duncan's show back in the late 80s called Circle Mommy that I loved. It's not on that 85 demo though. Do you know if they had another demo?

Anyway, you made my year with that post. So much great shit I don't know where to begin. I think I already Dl'd at least 20 recordings. Do you happen to have any live NY Hoods stuff? CBGB, or even the WFMU show? If so I'd love to get that. I have the SFA '87 (NYHC) and '88 (Tanks A Lot) demos (Mike BS on vocals), great sound quality, if you're interested I'll post it. Some live CBGB stuff too, from '88 I think. Let me know and thanks again!!!

Just so you know, the 2 NY Hoods uploads are the same. Both demos and live on NYU. If you come across any more live Hoods stuff (a CBGB set would be awesome) please post it. And any other Damage stuff. You have no idea how much I appreciate all this. Here's the SFA. All with Mike Bullshit (GO!) on vocals. Great quality. I love these demos, best stuff they ever did by a long shot. When Brendan joined it all went to shit in my opinion. GO! was great though. I also posted some NYC Mayhem stuff, in case anyone needs it. I dig deeper into my collection over the next few days and see if I can contribute more to this thread.

Stormy - 4-4-2008 at 01:36 AM

I just came across this blog:
http://oldxschool.blogspot.com

2 things I noticed right away were a live Antidote show from 1982. And both Breakdown demos - the classic 87 demo, and the 88 "Running Scared" demo. Some other rare stuff as well. Check it out.

Six66Mike - 4-4-2008 at 03:25 AM

One thing about blogs & rapidshare/mega upload I wish had: bitrates of the albums.

Oh god only 1 download at a time as well? :/

Who else got these? Trying to get Straight Ahead now, no torrents I can hit either

Stormy, welcome to the board. Anyone who is an SFA fan is good with me. I had no idea about this other singer. That's how "out of it" I am. Thanks for the hook up and welcome!

I liked Go! as well.
I'm glad was able to continue playing with people that wanted to play with him.

Just curious though... why do you think SFA went to shit when I joined the band?
I'm not trying to argue and I don't mind negative criticism.
In fact, I wrote a long letter praising one reviewer of our 1988 7" who tore us apart in his review.
It was refreshing to hear a harsh negative review that was honest and well explained.
All too often local zines were afraid to negatively review local bands or would politely say it wasn't their taste.

After I joined, our sound changed with our new drummer and my vocals... and I made all the new songs angrier so yes, the SFA of the demos was very different from the SFA of the albums.

I also know when I first took over for Mike I sucked.
A lot of that was singing Mike's songs and subconciously trying to sing his way instead of my own.
Once we phased out his songs it was different.
It was a lot easier singing my own songs in my own style.

So I'm curious... how did I turn the band to shit?

Thanks

Brendan

PS. Thanks for uploading the old demos.
I lost my copies long ago.
Anyway you could reupload them?
The links appear to have expired.

hi brendan,
welcome to the thorp family. ;)

i never liked the stuff mike did with sfa, i have a demo 7" and it sounds awful, never been in mikeīs vocal style.
maybe your style is too aggressive for stormy, i donīt know.
what is the situation about sfa now, is the band really dead or will you get together again some time in the future. there are rumours about a unreleased record.
i saw you ybout 6 or 7 times over here in germany and i really miss you :rodent:

Yes. There is an unreleased record we are sitting on.
Back in late 2000 we recorded an album called "Warsongs."

Rather than just releasing the album right away, because we figured this would be our last studio album, I wanted to wait to release it until we were ready to tour to support it.
This way the label would push and promote it as opposed to it being released without us touring to support it which would hurt the album.

We'd become disheartened with the way the hardcore/punk scene had changed in recent years and wanted to end things with one last big tour and two new studio albums.
We were also planning to rerelease "Solace" since we owned the rights again after e Bite records broke their contract with us and ruined our artwork and failed to release "Solace" outside of a small run in Europe.
We were hoping to release the new album as well as rerelease "Solace" with additional tracks and the proper artwork.

The main problem that we have is that all of us are commited to families and jobs and it's hard to schedule the time off to be able to do one last big tour. It's been almost eight years since we finished work on our unreleased album and I don't care how long it takes... we're not going to release it until we are ready to tour.

There is also been some internal fighting over the new album. I don't want to get into details and talk about disagreements between band members, but there are several songs I truly hate on this album. I think we recorded seven or eight songs that I really like and a few songs that I really hate that I would personally like to dump and just add some live recordings we did to fill it out.

And I miss Germany.
We always had a great time over there and made a lot of friends... except for the fuckers at We Bite Records.
Touring Europe was so much more fun and easy then touring in the US.

Hey Brendan, i'm not sure if you still even post here. I haven't been here in a LONG time. Anyway i just came across this old thread and figured i'd reply.

I guess "went to shit" was kind of strong. I own, and like, New Morality, although i haven't listened to it in many years. SFA was one of the bands that got me into hardcore back in 1987. I heard songs from the first demo on Pat Duncan's show back then, and SFA at that time was pretty much my favorite band. While all my friends were listening to Suicidal and DRI, i was jamming SFA songs that i would record off Pat's show (including a live in the studio set, wish i still had that). Mike's bullhorn vocals was one the things i loved about the band, so obviously i was dissapointed when the vocals changed drastically. The "charm" was gone, no offense. I do like more aggressive vocals in HC (the first Citizens Arrest 7" was one of my favorite records of the '90s). But for me, it just didn't fit SFA. Anyway, that's all there is to it, when your favorite band changes singers, it sucks. I'm sure you'd feel the same way. Didn't mean to come off harsh. By the way, i thought it was hysterical when you guys got kicked off FMU after like 3 songs because you kept cursing. One, two, FUCK YOU! hahaha. great stuff.

As far as the demos go, you can get them on my blog here:
http://www.bloggedquartered.blogspot.com
Mike was nice enough to send me those tapes many years back after i wrote to him, and i converted them to mp3s a few years later. OK, i've ranted long enough, i don't even know if you'll get this. Take care.
