music community and takes you directly to the musicians, record labels, writers, promoters, photographers, designers, and activists that make it all
happen. But no band is an island and at heart this film demonstrates that the secret to independence is interdependence, that the key to creating
music on one's own terms is learning to work together to build a community of like-minded visionaries. THE MICHIGAN INDEPENDENT tracks one such
community in the making. This energizing film documents what happens when people stop consuming and start creating.
